Gus has never lost the team since he has been head coach and he is not going to lose it now. Every player in there knew Gatewood would transfer. just when.

The biggest issue now is what I stated at the beginning of the spring. If Nix goes down Cord Sandburg is not the starter with No back up

Bad situation to be in considering we had 3 potential starters in February

Honestly, those two with Dinson and Thomas make me believe this team won't tank. However, being competitive against uga and bama with Cord as the QB if Bo goes down seems unlikely. If we are being honest we may like our chances against uga and bama with Bo but will any of us be surprised if we lose close games to them where it appears we haven't practiced as an offensive football team all season.

Well, Nix damn sure isn't Jalen Hurts either.

I understand what you're saying about close games. But our close games have been in spite of the offense. No reason to not try something different.

How we are losing

1. Offense is not productive.
2. Defense plays well, but is on the field over and over with no rest because 3 and out Gus cannot make a first down consistently.
3. Offense is predictable. Everyone saw the jet reverse pass coming presnap. Gus’s tendencies are established and he does not seem to self scout.
4. Gus likes the deep ball to the exclusion of almost any other routes. Our passing schemes scare nobody.

I agree, I'm just saying that perhaps Gustav's reluctance to put Joey in on the road in high-pressure situations was because he hadn't played him more early on.

And it's pretty clear that Bo hasn't benefited tremendously from getting all those first-team reps.

What's done is done. But the fact that we are now one high ankle sprain from putting in a guy who hasn't attempted a pass since 2012.

That is entirely Gustav's fault.

I don’t think that we know that yet. We’re not going to get the immediate returns we want but they are equally likely as unlikely to be coming.

As far as Joey leaving now, I dont think it is the right call. Has he gotten a fair shake? Probably not since I'm of the opinion Bo should have been made to watch a few series in the losses. That being said, it is 100% better he stay and keep practicing at least. And shite happens while playing football. He was cemented as the backup and was one play away from being the starter. I just dont understand the decision to leave now instead of after the season. I was brought up to beleive if you start something, you see it through till the end. We all knew he was leaving anyway. It just doesnt seem right to me to do it now.

I understand him leaving, but there is no advantage that I'm aware of to leaving now. This is simply hanging your teammates and coaches out to dry. This kid has been committed to Auburn for a very long time. Very poorly handled IMO.

UGa and Bama have defenses that are far superior statistically to Florida and LSU.

I hope that the light comes on for Bo and he stays healthy for the rest of the year. My lifelong experience with AU athletics prepares me for disappointment in those areas

I'd feel better about the former happening if he had been just missing on a few throws, but he seems to have an increasing problem communicating with his receivers. A lot of his recent missed throws have been Kiehl Frazier bad.

For sure. I just think it’s early to speculate how helpful reps are. At this point, Bo is our QB for the foreseeable future. He’s not a box of rocks so I think he’s going to adjust and get better but our expectation of seeing that this year may be unrealistic

Staff look different? Haven't we already tried that w/ 1. giving Lashlee more OC control and 2. bringing in Lindsey to be a QB coach and integrate a passing offense w/ Gus rushing offensive schemes? So what staff we talking about AGAIN? I assume you are not including GM...

The AU/NIX legacy is much bigger than Gus Malzhan. Don't underestimate Pat Nix and the power of those like him. You see the tweets from Ronnie Brown and Rhett. GM is gone if he loses to Bama and UGA.

Yards Per Play Allowed vs P5 opponents:
UGa 4.29
Bama 4.75

LSU 5.29
Fla 5.51

I agree LSU is much closer to UGa/Bama, but to be fair I was going from memory of last week's stats, before they played us.

Against their 4 previous P5 opponents (including MSU and Vandy) they were averaging well over 5.5 yards per play.

I don’t know. It’s concerning that not even Derrick Brown couldn’t change his mind after talking with him. Every account says Gatewood was putting in the time and effort this year. He’s been supportive and played well when called on.

Absolutely it was. How they weren’t able to sell him on staying for 4 more games is kind of troubling, especially with UGA and Bama coming to town. It just seems the final straw happened last weekend, what that was no one knows.

He got embarrassed by his HC on national TV sat. It isn't hard to understand his feeling scorned and leaving. I hope the best for him and Auburn will move on. Hopefully Gus doesn't lose the locker room over this.

Coaches showed they didn’t want him to have meaningful playing time while the starter sucked.

His teammates will be okay against Samford. Trust me.

This is the most AUtigR thing ever.

Rhett and Ronnie didn’t tweet shite. You read that they liked a tweet about Auburn needing to develop QBs and now you’re vaguely referencing that they’ve made their own tweets that have something to do with Gus’s job status.

If we had any sort of moderation on this board you’d be toast
