Hearing a key member of AU’s D line may not be returning. Former starter. Details should be out soon. Not Injury related. Tough blow if it holds true.
Edit- He deleted the post, but I read somewhere else that Truesdell wasn't at practice today and it wasn't an injury.

I can predict our downfall this season now.. not able to stop the run up the middle.
Posted on 8/6/21 at 3:26 pm to jt33
Yep. Very strange at this point. He was made for this defensive scheme. Unless he is just quitting football, seems like a very poor decision.

That’s concerning

I would think Burks or Fair.

quote:This is our third option for NG. Its harder to stop the run in the 3-4. That's just part of the scheme. If we don't have an effective plugger in the middle we are going to lose some games, regardless of how the rest of the D plays and how Bo and Tank play. The book on Fair is that he can string a series of 3 plays together but gets gassed because he's never been in shape. No idea on Burks.
I would think Burks or Fair.

Butler and Burks both have to step up big time. Not sure what to think on the Truesdell info but will wait until more information comes out.

This will NOT be a full-time 3-4 alignment. Mason wasn't even running a strict 3-4 front at Vanderbilt last season. No idea why everyone assumes we're a "3-4 defense" now.
And also, I told you guys when Fair committed that he'd end up playing over Truesdell LMAO. Truesdell was average as shite last year and wasn't even getting any talk when Jeremiah Wright was healthy.
Anyway, this puts more pressure on getting Tony Fair in shape and ready. But he's more talented than Truesdell anyway.

quote:Mason played an "Okie" front alot of the time, which is still a 3-4 but you bring your two OLBs to the line of scrimmage. It looks like the 3-4/5-2 that Wayne Hall used to run, and you still have a NG that has to occupy two blockers to be effective. Otherwise you are even or outnumbered on defense in the box. Its just math. The two-gap requires a guy to occupy two defenders in the middle or it doesn't work.

(edit) Regardless of the injuries or whatever that have happened I thought AU would struggle early in the season, because the 2-gap responsibilities are so different than what we've been running. Aranda struggled at LSU early as well. It puts much more cerebral responsibility on your DL and some players just don't adjust to it. I really hope Fair gets his fat-arse in just average shape and can play 20 effective snaps a game.

I’m glad a few of those still remain. And Pegues was never recruited to play defense.

How many of these guys are still on the team? And one was recruited as a TE
Posted on 8/6/21 at 5:10 pm to alpinetiger
Alpine I agree. I assume we will play multiple fronts. Base 3-4, Okie, Bear, and Base 4-3. I think that will be the key. However I do think Base 3-4 will be our main defensively alignment especially early to get the run fits figured out. After that it will grow depending on the opponent. As with most season DL and OL will determine if we are middle of the pack or up competing for a shot.

Addin the transfers now...
Harris
Fair
Leota
There are plenty of bodies and plenty of talent. Just have to get it coached to proper technique and assignments. That would be the same for any new staff or coordinator
Pegues was recruited as an athlete. Everyone but gimmick Gus knew this kid was destined to be on the DL.
