I had never heard of Roberts, but his resume is impressive
It really isnt that impressive.
What the hell are you talking about?
Was it Delta State that was impressive? Louisiana? The mere fact that he mentored a guy that ended up firing him? The fact that he has 31 years in total football coaching experience?
Dont get me wrong I am sure he is well respected in a few coaching circles, and I"m sure he has more football knowledge than I could ever learn, however he was only one candidate amongst many well respected candidates and my knowledge of football isnt the fricking standard to beat. People can say he is well respected all fricking day, but show me the stats. His great year in 2021 seems pretty atypical while the steep regression and firing afterwards is shocking.

Jumping from DII to the P5 is impressive to me.

That's not a point A to point B jump.
That's a progresssion over decades.
Aranda also coached at Delta State and is a helluva HC with or without the Delta State footnote. Now that is impressive.
You are merely inventing fricking reasons why the resume is impressive.

So it's impressive to go from D2 to D1 in 30 years but a problem to go from high school to D1 in 5? Got it.
I don't rhink it's a good or bad hire yet, I trust Freeze. I'm not going to dig deep to find a reason to feel any more than that

An article told them he was well respected so now he is a “slam dunk”
lol
That’s a pretty nice plan. I don’t like being sold a can of goods though. Germy asparagus Pruitt would’ve been ten times the hire.
lol

Lot of Googling going on to figure out who he is, that much is obvious

I don't disagree on Pruitt

Anyhow, the article said he introduced a safer version of the fake blitz. Anybody have videos of this?

The safer version of a fake blitz is not faking a blitz

As of now, until proven otherwise, our defense will be fine but our offense is going to be lit AF.

Saban tends to hire fired coaches, it works out OK for him. We are a University of second chances.
We are getting a veteran DC who understands the modern game.
His coaching tree includes Dave Aranda, Karl Scott, Patrick Tony and Pete Golding.
X’s and O’s wise he is elite.
Knows Louisiana and Mississippi.
Former HC (Twice) and was solid.
Arkie wanted him and so did GT.
He has had ONE decent year and got fired.
Who was better? Kelly? Twill? We needed and X and O's guy, not another recruiter. We got what we needed.
ETA:
2021: Big 12 title in 2021 as his defense led the conference in interceptions (19), turnovers gained (27), turnover margin (0.93) and defensive touchdowns (3). The Bears also finished second in run defense, scoring defense, pass efficiency defense and sacks.
2020 finished second in the league
2022: 4th in the conference in total defense (Fired)

I agree 100% but I feel good about that because we have guys out there recruiting their asses off right now. That is breathing life back into how I feel about Auburn football.

Stop browbeating me with silly points. Yes he was once HC of SLU.
But I was yesterday years old when I heard they had a football program.
Arki wanted him because their defense couldn’t rank much lower than where they were, and even Ron’s bad year seemed like a reprieve.
I’m bought in once he is in. I’ll support him just like I supported Grandpa Ellis from the start. It’s fine if I don’t like the hire. Don’t get your panties in a wad.
