Wrong. It's about talent acquisition.

What else would there be to know? The guy coached in the NFL, this, with background would suggest competency. Hardly suggests underwhelming. Being a player in the SEC is not to be underrated.

I think it’s OK to have reservations about a guy with a short resume from Liberty. I’m not out on him, but it doesn’t have that proven recruiter shine to it that I’d prefer.
That guy might recruit his arse off. But nobody knows yet. And after watching a lot of bad auburn football lately I’m not big on guys that will have to learn on the go.
Y’all are going to have a bad time here if you expect this board to fall in line with everything a new coach does. That’s never been this place
Won’t ever be

Only Auburn fans could complain about getting a rising coach that had one of the best DL's in the country and has NFL experience
From looking at some of their players stats over the years, I doubt it was because of the Vanderbilt quality control coach. The liberty guy that got 8 sacks thisyear also got 8 his freshman year. They have a bunch of seniors and transfers. Jay Hardy and Dre Butler both from Auburn didn’t even play much.
Also, I don’t speak for “Auburn fans” I speak for myself as an Auburn fan.
JT33, you’re smarter than this.

LOL the haters would have rejected most of Kirby Smart's staff.

Uh let’s not act like this guy is a home run lol

Is Chris more mature than Lane. I know nothing about Chris. I doubt he is a stability hire in the same vein as Steele to Malzahn. I think TRob can be our stability hire- plus he can recruit.

quote:I'm just saying.. Its ok to have doubts and wonders about a guy. To point back to the press conference and pretend every coach we hire needs to be some huge name isn't fair though. Big names bring big egos. We need good coaches who know how to fall in line and be part of a system too.

My damn stomach is in knots. Not sure if it's a reaction to the new DL coach or the salmon I had for dinner at IHOP

We just saw what a staff of no recruiters looked like on the trail. And I don’t really know what Craig has to do with this but I see that you’re head over heels so I’ll just leave this one alone
I’m skeptical if this the DL hire but I do have some confidence considering quite a few people in the industry think he’s a bright guy. I like him more if Chris Kiffin comes with him

This may be a dumb question but since when do cfb programs hire a GM?
It’s become a thing. Basically it’s a director of player personnel that evaluates the current roster, needs, and prospective talent. Pat Suddes who was at Auburn in 2018 really got it started when he left for Georgia Tech. Since then, AU’s had two DPP’s leave for GM titles (Billy High to UNC, now UT, and Ryan Smith to Georgia Southern).

quote:Not trying to pretend he is, but this is a strong B+ hire with lots of upside. Like I said, every coach can't be a big name because then you have too many ego's. Its important to build a staff as a whole that works together.
Uh let’s not act like this guy is a home run lol

No guarantees but he has a MBA, won the Chucky Mullins award at OM and spent some time in high school relating with kids. It's safe to say he has some qualities that would lend themselves to recruiting.

Granted, I know little about IHOP…but why would you get Salmon there?

I have a feeling that I will have plenty of time to reflect on that decision through tonight and into the morning
