To be clear, i agree that the buyout is a necessary evil-but the level at which his was set was unnecessary and poor administration

Sounds good doesn’t work because agents and other teams. If your rival thinks they need to get a guy, they’ll say screw you and give them a 9 year deal. Then the agents for every coach says, hey, that’s the market.

The buyout was pretty standard.
Napier's buyout is larger while in year 4. Stop your complaining Nancy

I saw a list of buyouts owed up to this point and so far Auburn's is the lowest.
Not too shabby.

We actually made a smart move? Who saw that coming?

Freeze didnt have a whole lot of leverage so we gave him an entry level deal. His salary is the 14th largest in the SEC as well.
It's the buyouts after extension or blockbuster signings that can be very steep.
I cant find any literature that says Freeze's buyout will be around 10 million after the third year. We will owe him 75% of the contract once he is fired so 15 sounds right. So why are we not firing him?

Napier's demand at the time was also much higher. You're entitled to your opinion, but it isnt based in reality. I dont know why anyone would try and defend any decision AU has made.

As already noted Freeze's lack of demand is already evident in his bottom tier contract.
Your confused point that he doesn't deserve a buyout is what's actually not based in reality as literally every P4 HC has a buyout.
Guaranteed that lil Steven will have a buyout despite not being in demand as well.

According to what the agent (attorney) demands.
Last two positions I took…..had to wait for my agent….to recommend.

Folks scream about the buyouts but I guess they didn’t pay attention that Gus had a new HC right after getting fired so we didn’t have to pay his whole buyout and Harsin has a job now so we get a discount there if his isn’t already paid off. We have the option to structure Hugh’s buyout (I think) over years where we really won’t be out of pocket much at all.

We are in a really good position to do whatever we want. We could go to someone like an Urban Meyer for example, and make a very significant offer.

If we quit giving a buyout we quit being able to.hire anyone. Coaches only come to this 3 ring circus of a clown show to get rich. That is the reality of our situation
Poker hit the nail on the head here. If Freeze is let go we have had three head coaches in the last what 6 or 7 years. And the asst ranks have been purged every couple of years.
Now if I am being recruited to be the head coach, not only is it risky, heck I wont even be able to bring in my A list assts cause they know they will be the first ones canned as sacrificial lambs.
Freeze had a sweetheart deal, no expectations for a couple of years, unlimited booster dollars for assts and NIL, and he still screwed the pooch. And will walk away with a big chunk of change. But I doubt he will ever get another head coaching job at this level, so the change will come in handy.

You would have to find one without Jimmy Sexton as an agent
