What has he done in the Big 10?

Nothing. Under achieved big time and I bet alot of Penn State fans would love to see him leave.

You want to pay someone like him top 5 money?

He won the Big 10. He always has Top 10 recruiting classes. Won 9 games at Vandy a few times. VANDY.

Lane has never won a major conference championship

But the question is WHO could that big name be?

The only acceptable "big name" is Ryan Day (well aware of the logistical problems here). Just go down the list.

At this point the most consistently mentioned (since last year) and obvious name wins out - Hugh Freeze. Still want and hope for Kiffin.

James Franklin is solidly average.

Anyone thinking there's a big name (Dabo, Urban, Day) coming prepare to be disappointed. Bob Stoops' old arse is the "biggest" name to these guys. Best we can hope for is Freeze. I question his ability to recruit in the South now after his affinity for hookers came to light

Lane has never been at a Penn State either. He was at USC but under heavy sanctions. Franklin has one conference championship since 2014. Franklin was wearing out his welcome at Penn State a little.while.ago, until they gave him that stupid contract. Sound familiar?

Mark Richt 2.0

I think Lane is our best choice just because if we gave him a defense and Nil then we would be fine. I was speaking then to the sudden lack of appetite and bad optics of giving some fat contract to Lane that he didn’t deserve after hastily buying out Harsin.

Hugh can coach but he also loses inexplicable games and his message to momma was neutered, and he will have his hands full merely trying to get much of the fanbase to buy into him.

Brian Johnson can recruit, and he can coach quarterbacks. Apparently he had recruiting networks in Florida. He is doing wonders with Hurts now, and Trask then Maybe Prescott too? He also beat Saban as Utah’s starting QB.
Maybe he can be our Kiffin?

Read this article with an open mind.

Instead of just contemplating Freeze or Kiffin or some other retread, I can easily see Cohen going this route.

Is 62 years old. Brian Kelly is 1 year younger. Saban is almost 72.

I get the sense that Stoops isn’t interested in coaching anywhere.

I may be crazy but I’m still team prime if we don’t get lane. There is no one else out there that could recruit how he could. I do wonder what type of staff he could put together… I could see some high profile coordinators not wanting to come and be under him because he will get all the credit in the media. But I still think whoever hires him will strike immediate gold at the P5 level

Isn’t he coaching XFL? Or did he back out?

I'm pretty much over the whole thing but all I'll say is if we hire Hugh Freeze we are trash and deserve all the shite we would get from it. Mommas in the south aren't going to send their boys to play for a charlatan scum who pimps out his barely legal players to whores and prostitutes.
blah blah blah. he paid for hookers. no proof that it was for the recruits. Just internet rumors that only weak minded people believe

Like I said several pages back, alot of what has been said throughout the process was from the media and "insiders" and not anything official. So we never truly knew Kiffin was #1. We heard he was but if there was someone ahead of him (not just a dream candidate or him falling from losing to Arky and State) then they may have been the one negotiating and we were waiting on. Plus it would make sense for Kiffin holding out on signing with OM. Maybe he is still hoping and waiting to sign just in case or feels he has a slim shot but does not like his chances.

I know it not the popular choice but with Kiffin acting out and telling everyone he's staying (still hearsay other that the post-game comment), it is the only reason for him to hold out on signing with OM. Unless he thinks someone else might open for him and he really wants to be at a better school.

Just got this from a post on the CC board.

Since arriving at Penn State Franklin is 2-15 vs top 10 teams and 1-10 vs top 5 opponents.

I take that back, he is not Richt 2.0. He is Malzahn 2.0

I was thinking he backed out of the XFL pretty quickly. Apparently he is still in the XFL- and happy to avoid NIL and the transfer portal.

Miss on Kiffin we can all plan to meet back here in 2.5 years.

Hope Cohen remembers we aren't State and an NFL position coach is not a HR but a swing and a miss
