Is Mason here to only rush 3 and drop Hall into pass coverage?

No, but Schmedding really hasn't shown much different so far.

Fun fact: Schmedding was heavily involved in ALL defensive game-planning last season. So if you hated parts of Mason's defense, don't be surprised to find out that Schmedding was involved in it.

It can’t be both. I’m told that schmedding doesn’t deserve credit for the good defensive games, so definitely can’t blame him for the bad ones.

I'm not saying he needs blame for anything; I'm saying that there was a very big leap in logic by a lot of people who were suggesting that there would be this monumental shift in the defense because Mason left and Schmedding took over. Schmedding was heavily involved in game-planning last season - that includes the Bama game...AND the MSU game, and every other game as well. So far this season the defense doesn't look that much different, and that isn't very surprising to me.

Defense looks worse than last year. Now it’s no surprise that the secondary has taken a step back given attrition, but getting carved up by a bad Mountain West team is several steps back. If that holds throughout the season, Harsin won’t make November

This never happened. Not even once. However, the same people explain away every positive and blame Harsin for every negative.

It's not a difference of opinion, it's an agenda. People with an agenda manipulate everything to support said agenda. By definition, this is you.

That’s fair. But to judge this defense by these first two “cupcake” games is hardly fair.

No sense in judging now. Proof will be in the pudding, good or bad, within the next 5 games

It never once happened that someone suggested that Mason was this monumentally incompetent DC who was solely responsible (conveniently alongside Bobo) for the 6-7 season last season? And that putting in Schmedding would immediately result in a more "attacking" defense?

Do you think I'm dumb? I read all the posts, chief. Don't try to tell me what did or didn't happen, because you appear to be the confused one. We actually had a longstanding rumor that Schmedding "called the Bama game" last season. Did you forget that one? This has of course been countlessly debunked by every single AU beat-writer.

That idiotic rumor in itself implied that Schmedding was this polar opposite to Mason (bEcAuSE wHY dId wE aLL oF A sUdDeN PrEsSuRE derrr). This was all over EVERY Auburn forum. In fact, it STILL comes up.

My question is what positives? Everyone was singing Harsin’s praises after Arkansas and Ole Miss and that’s after getting our asses whipped by rival UGA.

Outside of that there are no positives. What is it now he’s won 3 games against P5 opponents? 3-6 against P5 opponents and lost the bowl game which I really don’t give a crap about. If the players don’t care for bowl games why should I or why should I count them against the coach?

Penn State Locked On guy was on Auburn Locked On this morning. He’s not too convinced their Oline can block Hall and company. Really need the Dline to take over the game Saturday.

Considering Mason is gone now, maybe our new DC will learn from watching last years game, and actually get some pressure on their QB! So frustrating seeing the mediocre PSU QB look like Tom Brady, because he had an eternity to sit and wait for a receiver to get open! We could not get any pressure with our DL, and Mason refused to call a blitz.
