The only shitty QB we have had was JJ, and Gus came in so late during that recruiting cycle that he had to take him.

I don’t really think anyone can be blamed for JJ except JJ himself. The guy looked the part in the minimal time he played and in practice. He just lost it when his time came and the lights came on.

I think the good thing about this race is Patrick Nix. If Gatewood is obviously the better player right now Nix will see that and encourage his son to stay the process until it’s his turn.

That can be said for several posters on here. It has to be exhausting.

I am actually at a point where I dont care anymore....

Some of these guys totally ruined the conversation on this page last year once the season got started. You could not have any kind of coherent conversation without them just dropping big dumps all over them. It would be different if even 25% of what they say had any merit at all.

Why anyone would want to keep that up is beyond me. It may be time to just let them have it and not even try. It sucks because at one time, there was some good conversations here about the football program.

Even if you put JJ on Gus, what is the list of guys he did so bad with?

Chris Toidd - progressed at Auburn
Cam Newton - progressed at Auburn
Trotter - Stayed hurt - Even results with his talent level
C.Mosley - Low talent level - Stayed hurt - tears happened
K. Frazier - Did not really play under Gus - Cant really explain
N. Marshall - progressed at Auburn
J. Johnson - I will put him on Gus
S. White - Did well with his talent level
JF3 - LOL. Project that never happened
J. Stidham - Stayed even with his talent level.
Jonathan Wallace - ?
Woody Barrett - Transferred out before playing time
Malik Willis - transfered. Offense just not set up for him. Would have liked to see him get more of a chance to play.

What quarterbacks did I miss since 2010? Kodi was a Qb when Gus arrived
but was moved which was the correct decision.

Forgot the kid out of Marietta that had the arm issue. Never had a chance to play

He hasn’t recruited well at the QB position. No one is denying that. But who’s fault is that?

It would be better to compare Gus to his peers. Look at Mullen.People claim he is a QB whisper guru. He has Dak, and no rings. Gus has put out more talent than Mullen. Our people refuse to address the redicules schedule we have to play every year, and injuries associated with that.

Its really not a big priority to me either but some here seem to be stuck on that for some reason.

I know it helps with recruiting but it should never be his main goal. Win games at Auburn should be first.

Gus is all over the place with the recruiting. One year he gets DT guys the next all he gets in Pro set guys. He needs to get set on a system and run it for a while so we can get the guys around the QB to help run whatever system he decides on

And that system should incorporate a running QB. Not a pocket passer.

Because when people shite on Gus, it is a metric used.

We are not an NFL farm league. I am okay with winning with Nick Marshall over and over again. If we are not winning, the frustrations can be nit picky.

Some of you guys with your constant excuses (like the schedule) are just as bad if not worse than the people who constantly shite all over Gus.

Gus has done extremely well in recruiting. But he is all over the place in that recruiting. Does he want pro style or DT style QBs? Looking at our recruiting history under Gus it would be hard to know which way he wants. Is that a knock on Gus? No its FACT.

Gus has won a lot of games at Auburn, and has all but completely rewritten our record books. But he has lost a lot as well. 25 in the last 5. Thats also FACT...on both sides.

Gus is a good coach...without a doubt. But is Gus one of the 5 best coaches in all of football? His salary says yes, but the results on the field say no. Top 5 coaches dont get beat by 2 brand new first time head coaches, one being at home.

Gus is constantly criticized that he doesn't develop his kids for the next level. It isnt his job to have players ready for the NFL, its his job to win games at Auburn. He just needs to win and the criticisms will not be so loud. But when he does those head scratching things... The criticism will still be there as long as things like 17 straight runs up the middle after a 1st down, someone on staff not being able to count to 5 causing a Mr Football to transfer, or say... You know playing 4 or 5 QBs in a game still happen.

Gus is a great guy. He runs a clean program, and his players absolutely love him. This cannot be understated.

But under Gus we have fallen from 2nd in the West to fighting to stay out of 5th in the West.

Gus just needs to get his mojo back that he lost after the 2014 Texas A&M game. If he can turn himself back into dynamic Gus, there is no doubt he could become one of the best coaches in all of football... Thats a pretty big IF though. Its hard to get that mojo back after its lost...but Austin Powers got his back. Maybe Gus can.

I will give you that one. Plus, its tiresome.

It has been stated, even in this thread, that he is all over the place with QB recruiting. It also makes it hard to get the right support people when he wont pick a style. It is the most frustrating thing for me personally with him. Why wont he just stick with a style and run with it. He never, EVER, should have changed.

He has won a lot of big games too. Some of the biggest wins in Auburn history. And lost some shitty ones that we should not have lost. Every coach has that but since he is not winning 10 per year, it makes it easier to pick them out. But, 8-5 is Auburns historical record.

He is not one of the top 5 coaches in football and Auburn is not a top 5 team in football. Not sure what your expectations are. The salary is not our issue. We cant and Gus cant decide that. If Auburn offered him 200 million, its not on him.

The runs up the middle are good if they work. When they dont, he needs to change. Its a big sticking point for him. I get frustrated at that as well

As for playing 5 qb's in one game, I am convinced he had money on that game and part of the side bet was him doing that. Because there was no other excuse for it. Sad thing is, we still could have won that game.

Im not sure about the Mr Football you speak of. But none of the Mr Footballs have worked for us for the most part. JJ, Roc, ect. Only Keryon worked for his senior season till he got hurt

Doesn't seem to matter to people until they get what we got with Chizik. Then its a issue.

This is just totally untrue

Meh. I hated what happened in that game but its over. He has won some very big games since then. I think him calling the plays again will be a good thing. It should help his confidence.

I do not so much take up for Gus as I do the facts. Excuses are one thing, facts are another

Gus's challenge will be that if Gatewood plays well and we are up on a decent team, he may play Nix for experience reasons. If Nix also does well, I dont think Gus will have the discipline to stop playing him. Even if a redshirt would be a good thing.
