Neighbor is on the dev team for the app and said they eclipsed $200k in subs in the first month. Not sure if that was monthly or annual. Had to go in and make my kids dinner.

Their company is also working on the Penn State version (much further behind AU at this point).

Thats enough for a couple of recruits.

Ill say it til the crows come home, we need an entire company for NIL, two divisions, one funding (an app for the little donations, recruiters to bring in the big fish), a second one dealing with contracts for recruits, portal, and existing personnel. And if you ask why existing personnel, the first question should be....then why do they have a scholly in the first place, it this new portal age, kick them to the curb if they dont perform, they wanted a business, its now a business. Bama just kicked two five stars out the door.

Minimum 5 million budgeted for contracts, another couple of million for operating expenses at least. The contracts will go up significantly in the next couple of years until some regulating body moves in with salary caps. So by 2023 we should expect to be spending close to 10 million a year.

Sound like a lot, we are spending 92 million on a barber shop and recording studio, which of the two do you think will bring in a winning team.

Or you can just continue to whine (not OP but those in general on the board) that we need "recruiting coaches". If you send them to recruit without NIL cash, you might as well tell them to go direct an alec baldwin movie, they will both have the same effect.

And Im not picking on you Niner, just the board thinking this is a part of recruiting, NO it is recruiting, its a watershed/paradigm/earth shattering/cataclysmic change to college athletics.

It’s not where we need it to be but still, if accurate, that’s $200k/month not just one time contributions (assuming people don’t cancel). It’s far more likely that more people sign up in the future than people canceling so that number should continue to climb.

If you think relationship building is still not important in the grand scheme of things you are wrong.

Relationships will always be a huge part of recruiting and will require the kind of recruiters that will do it. Money alone will not do what you think it will. It will grab some no doubt, but relationships will always be a huge factor combined with NIL.

DO’S
Consider how you can profit off of your NIL – think about the companies and markets that would be most open to you based on your sport, level, location, etc.
Remember that there are certain categories of goods that you cannot profit off of (alcohol, gambling, etc.)
Obtain legal advice before making any type of NIL agreement
Disclose any NIL activity to your school’s compliance officer
DON’TS
You cannot receive any performance-based incentives
Your NIL agreement cannot incentivize you to attend a certain school
You cannot use your school logos (in almost all cases) to benefit your NIL
NIL activity cannot include time spent during team-organized activities
Don’t take the first deal that is offered to you – you are free to negotiate as appropriate, and you’re also free to seek multiple opportunities

Maybe you misspoke ...but in other words Trinidad ....if a coach sits down on a recruiting trip and says "Yalla Wood will give you 5,000 a month Nil money .....the NCAA dogs come in and crucify the whole Athletic Department.

I'm convinced that A&M figured out how to get around this. Coach mistakenly sends his target list to the Boosters. Targets become aware, there are riches awaiting their signature.

Auburn needs to step up obviously. Why wait? It's been a common practice of the Red Elephant Club for decades.

I think this whole NIL thing will look far different in 5 years than it does today. The schools that see where it is going rather than where it is early will get the worm.

Does the company hold the rights to the player's NIL and can resell them? That would be pretty wild.

Feel like if the NIL company had different tiers - can pick a player, can pick a team, different subscription levels get autographs, highest tier gets a ball signed by all starters receiving NIL etc... there's a lot of places this could go.

I could see companies sponsoring both AU and AL and having the signed ball with all of the starters in the lobby, for example.

A few things:

Im sure their are a myriad of ways to get around the fact an NIL cannot be offered as an incentive. They dont get money beforehand, only when they have signed. Its not like pre NIL where you had a money trail once the kid got on campus.

Second, this whole program of autographed footballs is okay for the masses but its not going to raise the money you need to compete in the SEC, and how many footballs can the kids sign?

You need an organization to set up fund raising year around for high rollers, mid tier, and the aforementioned.
And yes, you can bet boosters will get a say in recruiting, as they should if they are paying for it.

Third, I agree it will get regulated. I doubt a & m paid the 30 mil being floated around, probably a couple of mil. Unfortunately they are now set for a couple of years and this year the budget for a great recruiting class, if you are Auburn, is gonna be 4 or 5 million, with another couple of million to run an organization to do it. And the price will continue to skyrocket until someone puts rules in place.

Lastly, we really really need a separate dept in recruiting to deal with the portal, keeping a relationship with the kids we really like that for whatever reason are not getting what they want with their current team. Think free agency in the pros.....and look at how many were playing in the superbowl. If we had done this, and had the NIL money, we could have feasted this past round. As Jonesy and others have said, when the good ones hit the portal, they already have a good idea of where they are headed.
