I also read where Asa Martin shot way up the depth chart and is a serious contender to start at RB - I would love to see this because I think he has the highest ceiling of all the RBs.

Staff has legitimate concerns about KM being an every down back. Boobee or Asa could really take over if they can pass protect.

I could see Asa being #1 eventually with KM getting the Mcallab carries and Boobee getting the Mario Fannin carries.

What I think will happen though is KM getting 20+ carries a game. Boobee getting 4 or 5 and Asa getting 1 or 2.

They'll probably use Cox in the backfield in obvious passing downs to KM with the pass rush.

Yeah, I guess that's one way to interpret the news that two extremely talented freshman are working their way in to the rotation.

Tired of hearing abiut freshmen and pass pro its BS. This should only matter on 3rd and more than 5. A good play caller on early downs should be able to,keep defenses from blitzing. Also a good QB should be able to audible into a quick pass or a draw play to negate the blitz especially on early downs.

Is that the play where the QB hands him the ball and he immediately fumbles it?

Why is it so dumb? With our WRs and Stidham are many teams going to try and rush more than 5 other than obvious passing situations? I mean UGA and Bama will but those are the only teams with the athletes to pull it off. If Gus puts this up to Pass Pro then Chandler Cox is your starting RB. Now that is dumb.

So we should completely change/shift our offense and playcalling to allow someone on the field because they can't recognize a guy running right at them? Some of you never cease to amaze me

So rather than put the best RB on the field, cause of concerns in pass pro we put a inferior runner on the field. If we cant run the ball then I guess pass pro will really be important.

Dude pass protection is huge. A missed blitzing LB can equal a 7-10 yard loss and then the running game is basically out of it for that series.

Correct. We aren't talking about putting walk-ons in. We are talking about three guys who are comparable. If reports are that Asa is the next Darren McFadden then sure, you find a way to work around his protection issues. But when you've got three guys at least close in talent, then things like pass protection are easy deciding factors.

You may be tired of it but it's not BS. Pass pro is a vital aspect of playing RB in any system

It matters on every play. If defenses know that the current ball carrier on the field can't pass protect then they know it's either a run play or he's going out for a route. It also means if another player subs in that can protect then you might be telegraphing a pass play is coming

Wut?

You don't always know a blitz is coming though....

Pass pro doesn't matter until dude misses a block & knocks your QB out for the season...

I just hope Boobie doesn't fall into old habits and start reversing the field and dancing too much like he could do in HS. Needs to be focusing on north-south running.

The better complaint would "why has it taken three years to turn Kam Martin into a competent pass protector?"

Yes size/strength helps but a lot of pass pro for RBs is technique. Getting proper spacing from the QB, having a good base to withstand first contact with defender, landing punch correctly and knowing how to move feet in space

hard to teach a 180 lb running back to block a 280 lb defensive end trying to kill the QB. Just sayin

Not asking him to wrestle a defender to the ground. Coaxing a defender to take an extra step is usually all you need to do for the QB to get the ball out

Not only that but staff doesn't want Stidham taking shots.

Chip Lindsey said Boobee let a pass rusher go by untouched to Stidham. There for a short while afterwards they cringed everything Boobee was in the game and didn't know if they could play him.
