Looking at the picture of Boobie, now may be a good time for Grimes to address blocking in the back!

Fair point, KJ was good. Could be better or worse but another factor to consider now is we'll see how going from H Hand back to JB Grimes goes

Agreed...my posi barner likes the coaching shift. I also believe we have way more physical talent this year than last season. James and Golson had a ceiling of being average SEC linemen. I believe most all the guys except Kim and Driscoll have the potential to play in the NFL if they reach their ceiling. I only leave Driscoll off this list because I haven't seen him play an Auburn schedule yet, but I am a bit skeptical a guy from UMASS is going to revolution our line of scrimmage issues.

Keep in mind he was headed to USC or UCLA if not AU. He dominated his league and all reports from this summer said he was turning heads in workouts.

I do agree...but I suspect USC and UCLA had the same issue with misses and development at tackle as Auburn. NFL or even All-American College Tackles don't grow on trees.

I would admit I am skeptical of any player until I see them play a game. So it isn't specific to Driscoll. I also admit I heard about how James was a former 5 star and Golson started at Ole Miss as a true freshman. IMO both worked hard for Auburn and made us proud but both only possessed the talent to be the 5th guy on a great OL at this level. Unfortunately we needed much more than a 5th guy at the time they attended Auburn.

Yes. I am cautiously optimistic, but will believe it when I see it.

Goldom may have been our best OL outside of Braden who had the unfortunate and ironic position of being our most versatile OL and had to change positions every week it seemed. Could never settle down in one spot since he was always having to cover something new

Never said he wasn't. Even said I appreciate his effort and contributions, but in the end he isn't the level of player we will need to compete at the highest level year in and year out. I would agree he was clearly next in line as best OL last season probably neck and neck with Harrell by the end of the season. A player of that caliber probably need to be the 4th or 5th guy...not 2nd or 3rd. Based on what we had last year I am very thankful for him.

Golson was pretty damn good. Not the best O-lineman in the SEC, but I guarantee he could start for at least half of the teams in the SEC. He was basically mr versatile that could play any position on the line. He also played as a TF in the SEC, and did fairly well even then. Whatever the case, we were lucky to have him transfer in. If you think he was average, our OL gets waaaay more average without him.

He was average. You just defined him as average. You are correct, we were lucky to have him. The stats don't lie. Our OL played very poor against elite competition last season 2 good games, 3 eggs. KJ being healthy/or not healthy was the only constant between the eggs and good games. Golson was our 2nd or 3rd best linemen. To beat 5 elite teams in a season you better have better than average.

Yeah, that’s bullshite. He wasn’t tbe most dominant but no average OL can play any and every position on the line or have the IQ of Golson.

Let’s see how “average” he was:

I think it goes without saying that in order to be good, you have to be better than average.
I think you hammered that revelation in nicely, if not repetitively.

that... isn't... true

Our starting line was different against Clemson than UGA/Bama. Casey Dunn got injured vs LSU. And you conveniently left off MSU having a good/great DL.
