How many All Americans have we had?
Posted on 3/7/22 at 1:26 pm to Nerd
I’m going to guess Mengelt, Barkley, and Porter

I am shocked that JAbari was not unanimous.
Who would have not voted him 1st team?
I have figured out, that when humans are involved in voting, there will always be biases...

It's why the CFP should be a objective measure to get in...not subjective.

How was Rob Chubb not on this list

Crazy that this is Pearl's first AA at AU.

Christian Clemente
@CClemente__
Auburn PF Jabari Smith has been named a Sports Illustrated first-team All-American. The only freshman on the first team.
C Walker Kessler was named to the third-team.

I’d throw him on second team all Bruce
People don't understand how absurd KT's 2014-15 season was.
Not only did KT lead SEC in scoring but he shot 61.8% (#1) True Shooting, 64.1% (#70 natl) in SEC play. That is normally a stat dominated by big men who only have dunks/putbacks. The only qualified AU player in Bruce era to best KT in True Shooting% is Walker Kessler this season with 64%.
Why is that a big deal? Because KT shot like that on volume, shooting 27.8% of AU shots, which generally leads to lower efficiency. It is effectively unheard of for a player to have that true shooting% on that volume
KT had one of the most efficient, highest production offensive seasons at AU despite having a Canada and Cinnabon brick as some of his best weapons alongside him

Although I’d probably give the nod to Samir or maybe even Heron over Harrell
Based on what exactly?
KT absolutely torches both of these guys on both traditional and advanced stats despite playing with a significantly worse supporting cast
quote:
Not sure there’s much room after Jared, Bryce, Chuma, Jabari, Kessler.
This is extremely hard to say as someone who fought off the early Bryce haters (posts to prove it too), KT deserves to be on it more than Bryce (and Chuma). I mean KT had a higher 3FG% than any of Bryce's seasons and was a more versatile scorer/ball handler/defender

Nah. KT was awesome. I was a manager on the team when KT was there. Great dude, elite jump shooter and wish he could have played on some better teams. But Bryce and Chuma > KT on the all-Bruce teams. KT was very limited defensively.. (mediocre to bad lateral agility) while Bryce and Chuma were key cogs defensively on well above average defensive teams. And yeah, unfortunately for KT, you get penalized when your team sucks even if it's not your fault.

That’s pretty cool. This board is slow af. Any funny or odd stories?

Well nothing particularly funny or odd but one that comes to mind about KT particularly, is that I once rebounded for him while he made 110 straight free throws. I had just started as a manager and was blown away.
Cim Bowers was every bit the character off the court that he was on the court but he reallly had trouble fitting in at first. His first week of practice he sucker punched cold cocked Jordon Granger from behind and nobody liked him for weeks.
Other than that, Bruce is the hardest worker I've ever met or been around. Every minute of his every day is booked with some sort of basketball or basketball tangent engagement and he brings the same energy to it all. I only got to manage for his first two seasons unfortunately so I didn't get to enjoy any winning.
Edit: A couple other maybe interesting notes.
-Talking to former Barbee players/managers about that dude was eye opening. They absolutely hated him. They said by the end of his last year he would show up an hour late to practice regularly wearing golf attire (as in clearly he was late because he was just golfing)
-Chuck Person was absolutely amazing to work for and I was as shocked as anyone about what happened. I even was hoping he would finish out his degree so he could take a HC job somewhere and maybe take me with him (I wanted to get into coaching) and I specifically worked hard for him to get an opportunity. He is a good dude who made some terrible mistakes.

That’s what I’m here for. Sometimes I could sucker punch Jordon Granger too. He had a hard time inbounding to the right team.

He cost Auburn something. But he didn’t really cost Auburn anything devastating imo so I’m not as hard on him.. I still stand by my belief that our whole team would shoot better with him. The guy is working with Scoot Henderson’s shot for a reason. He’s good. I feel bad for him that his finances were so bad that he had to turn to illegal and illegitimate means of making cash that affected Auburn.

Yes.. he was super robotic about telegraphing passes. Bruce almost always has his 4 man inbound the ball but Granger never should have regardless.
