This is probably the 2nd best season in the last 15 years for Bama basketball and people are down on it for some reason.

Chat from a Bham sportstalk channel. The Bammers are down on their team because they are looking up at Auburn. War Eagle!

Taken from the Rant, "The Athletic - Anonymous coach talks SEC" I just took the Auburn portion.

Auburn. “Jabari Smith is very, very, very one-handed. You have to sit on his right hand and force him to use his left. You put your chest on his right shoulder on the catch. He doesn’t do much off the dribble. He kind of disappears. He’s not an elite rebounder and doesn’t shoot a lot of free throws. You can stay with him and negate his shot a little bit. Wendell Green Jr. is an awesome player and a really good kid, but if you have quick guards you can get into him. Their style of play will keep you in the game. They’d have a hard time with a fundamentally sound team like Villanova or Wisconsin. There’s nothing you can do with Walker Kessler. He impacts the game so much from a defensive standpoint. He can score the ball, but he doesn’t have to score to be impactful. They get a little wild sometimes. Zep Jasper is the one that keeps everything organized. They’re getting everybody’s best shot, so they haven’t played as loose as they did a month ago. If you’ve got bigger guards, you can take K.D. Johnson and Green out. You can attack them and get your guards to the elbow and score over them. That’s why Arkansas beat them, because they have big guards.”

Gonna be a huge game for AU I hope many jumped on to get tickets when you got yours so our boys could have some support.

Tickets in Section 102 for my same row are now going for $518 before fees (you can get single tix cheaper). I got mine for $189 each and felt bad for paying that for a couple of days. $189 is still cheaper than Auburn Arena. What a time to be alive.

Pretty good assessment. We've been exposed the last few games. Jabari has pretty much taken himself out of the POTY race unless he just goes off in this last stretch. A&M was a good bounce back, but they're on a downward spiral anyway. Vandy, Florida, and Tennessee will be good tests. Fingers crossed we win out from here and hang another banner.

I feel like Jabari just isn't being fed as often as well for non-tourney play and he'll be given more chances when it matters.

AU really hasn't played well since before the UK game. No team can fire on all cylinders throughout the season so I hope this is our lull. We're still winning games so that's good. I'm also glad that Pearl is crashing Cambridge to the boards when he in the game. That guy is Dennis Rodman.

This is a common sentiment but I think it's a little overstated. Look at Torvik rankings over the last 5 games nationally and we rank 6th. That includes the UGA game and the Arky loss. We haven't been the best team in the country, but we are still playing very well over the past few weeks.

What is the PR abbreviation? I haven't deduced it yet.

Also, did he offer similar defensive stats?

Interesting. I'll check it out. Maybe I'm just focused on offensive efficiency and AU bricking so many threes.

He said he found the stats from synergy sports system. Whatever that is…

He has a ton of neat stats such as Wendell shoots better while guarded than unguarded.

Another odd stat:

Wen Green's shooting %s ...
GUARDED 46%
UNGUARDED 27%

The offense has definitely taken a step back (brick city) but that has happened in tandem with the defense picking up some of the slack.

Definitely need to focus on getting better shots. Down the stretch I'm hoping Bruce emphasizes things like:
-Flanigan/Cambridge/Williams are only permitted to take wide open threes. If a defender is within 3 feet pass the ball (or drive if it is there)
-Jabari 2-4 elbow catches per half
-Green is only permitted to take logo threes if he has made a couple threes earlier (heat check)
-KD greenlight turns red if we don't have offensive rebounders in position

Those tweaks along with a few others could go a long way.

Wow. I'd like to know what is considered guarded versus unguarded. Interesting nevertheless.

With this AU team my only concern is our guards in the NCAA tourney. We're not big or long. Zep Jasper has to come up big IMO and play more minutes. He's our biggest guard and a really good facilitator. Nails on defense and takes care of the ball at an all-star level. Green does not.

I'm OK with how Bruce is rotating currently. Starts the steady hand and more well rounded guard in Zep then brings on Wendell when it's time to turn on the offensive jets a bit.

Also Green doesn't really turn the ball over a ton. The Arky game when he was the sole effective 1 we had on the roster and he played a lot of it gassed was an aberration.

2019 offensive team. 2022 balanced team that leans on defense.

Wen leads the team in TO, he handles the ball a lot and drives to the basket, so that makes sense. These stats come from ESPN
Wen 58
Jabari 45
KD 37
Walker 29
Allen 24 this is more concerning since he hasn't played as many games
Jaylin 22
Devin 19
Jasper 17
Rest of team 31
