Our team didn’t swing at the first pitch for any of our ABs. If you are predictable like that, it’s going to be hard to put forth much of an offensive effort.

Yeah it’s apparent LaRue’s issue is that he doesn’t see the ball well enough. He’s got a solid swing and is strong but looks like he isn’t figuring out the pitch until it’s 10 feet from the plate. Honestly wish he’d just look fastball every pitch and if one is close, just try and get it in play.

Most catchers aren’t the greatest of batters. Around the league in MLB, catchers are more times than not less than average hitters. There is one catcher batting above .300 who has played over 50 games (and some of those are as a DH). There’s only 5 batting above .275 in the top 30 of games played and 2 above .300.

Catchers if they can remain healthy hang in the league a long time. Generally when they are young they handle the fastball well and not the curve or off speed stuff and it transitions throughout their long careers to where they can’t hit the fastball and are able to handle the soft stuff. Plus many like myself you play with a damaged left thumb most of the year. Either by trying to frame a pitch or a pitcher not seeing a sign correctly. The wear and tear on the body at the major league level is almost impossible to stay healthy. It’s pretty difficult to hit with a bust up thumb. Anyone that has caught someone that throws 85+ knows what I’m talking about.
But back to laRue. Just guess. He’s hitting around 200ish on the season and and probably 100 in the post season you can guess better then that so just sit back guess the pitch and drive the baseball. Several 280-300 average mlb hitter guess the pitch and not spin.

Team as a whole looked off yesterday, sluggish…. Did the cross country venture to Oregon back to AU to Omaha impact their play?

Alright Randy.. what do you surmise the issue to be?

I don't have any answers but I know what I saw. Poor play in the field and a team struggling against a good pitcher.

We just ran into a hot pitching staff with bats that were already struggling and frankly a team that is overachieving. There doesn't always have to be some mysterious reason/excuse.

We were dealing with an elite pitch framer and an umpire that was easily fooled. DeLucia was about as on as I've seen from him as well. That first AB from Rambo where he flied out on a ball at his eyes can of told the whole story.
Stanford has bats galore, but their pitching is just okay as a whole. We should fare better offensively today, but we have to have to limit the free passes.

Very disappointing to see Bright starting over Barnett

I have praised Butch and Huddy but starting Bright is quite perplexing as awful as he has looked as of late

Why is that, in a elimination game I would go with Barnett especially the way he has pitched lately.
