Burkhalter to the Braves at 76. He is the pick the Braves got for Freddie Freeman signing with the Dodgers. Hate that he will always be linked to that, but hope he can make it where it’s talked about in his favor.

That's an awesome pickup by the Braves. He's close to league ready now. Hope for great health and he should be in the league in a year or so.

I'm expecting Sonny to go rather early today and likely sign a slight underslot deal.

I think Sonny is slated to be around a 5th rounder. To good to pass up limited athletic ability to much to take him any earlier. He can flat out hit tho so if he can get on a pro plan and improve his baserunning and glove he can make some money playing ball. If not he'll be out of the minors in 3 years.

No Ike Irish yet, which is fantastic.

EDIT: slot values are under a half million now. Rumor is Irish wanted $1M+. Need him to definitely slide to at least the 7th.

Zero chance. He's not going to get $364k in NIL and his signing bonus next year will be less than $10k. Plus you have potential injury. Add that to the fact that teams and players for the most part have already agreed to bonus' if they draft a player in the top 10 rounds.

EDIT: it would take a screwed up medical for that signing to not go through.

sorry. This isn't remotely true.

ETA on top of that, the signing bonus is what you make. minor league pay is shite......

quote:

Prior to the 2021 season, MLB cut 43 minor-league affiliates and promised better conditions for players as a result. The league raised the minimum weekly salary at rookie and short-season levels from $290 to $400; at Class A, from $290 to $500; at Double A, from $350 to $600; and at Triple A, from $502 to $700.

quote:

According to MTB’s report, many players still believe salaries are too low and the housing policy is too broad. Players are only required to be paid during a roughly five-month season, and do not typically get wages for offseason camps, spring training or extended spring training (though there are a few clubs that are exceptions).

None of that changes the math and history of the MLB draft. I'll buy you an order of Sonic tots if any of our 4 guys that have been drafted are on campus come September.

saying the first 10 rounds of players is already worked out on signing bonuses is absurd.

I lived the process. The wining and dining. There will be as many fifth rounders that pass as sign. It goes down exponentially after that. The first three rounds teams have a great shot at signing players. After that it's a crap shoot.

ETA as far as ours are concerned, I have no idea what they will do. Sonny, for instance, could help himself a lot, monetarily, by coming back. He needs work on the breaking stuff. He struggled against good breaking balls in the post-season. That cost him a lot of money.

FWIW Caldwell said the same thing.

“ Normally if they pick you today it's because you told them you would sign.”

If a college player and picked in top 5 rounds u go. Better working within full time on craft than part time if that’s the goal

Exactly top 5 rounds for a college player and you go. No questions. 10 or greater you definitely come back. 6-10 is no man’s land for a college player. Depends probably on where you are on getting your degree and how much improvement you see in yourself

Draftee’s outside of the 4 already mentioned. Are four more in some of the later rounds making 8 players in one season a program record.

Carson Skipper 11th round (326)
Hayden Mullins 12 round (369)
Blake Rambusch 15th round (456)
Brody Moore 17th round (517)

Crazy to think Brody is all grown now. His Dad Brandon and I played against each other for years. And Brandon is the head coach at Oneonta.

Springville had Brandon Moore and Roc Woody at the same time. We still spanked that arse lol.
