quote:I can give a summary:
Highlights of the game? Had to wake up at 1am for work so had to go to bed early.
1st Half- great ball movement and motion on offense, crisp pass and good shot selection; Brown and Lang were hot from 3; on defense it was our best half of the season; lots of energy, guys in position and guarding without silly fouls
2nd Half- came out pounding it inside and avoiding the collapse everyone was anticipating; still solid on defense but MSU was hitting contested shots to stay in the game; then...some turnovers and bad shots led to bad defense and MSU kept making 3s leading to the collapse; then...the refs took over and made it a free throw contest which doesn't play into our strengths (20+ fouls called in the last 3 minutes) and we couldn't inbounds the ball...still found a way to finish off the game in the end.

so I just looked it up. State was 3-10 in the first half on 3 pointers. The second half they were 8-12 going 11-22 on the game. They just kept slowly chipping away at that 20 point lead. It felt relatively safe throughout most of the second half until about the 6 minute mark..maybe 8; I don't remember.

The majority of the second half we still played really well. Slowed things down some, but we were still pretty efficient on offense, especially considering we went cold from 3. The last 5 minutes or so it started falling apart. MSU not missing didn't help.

What do we think about the Ole Miss game?

They just kept slowly chipping away at that 20 point lead.

We are clearly the more talented team and they don' thave the elite guard play of driving to the bucket we struggle with. Theoretically, we match up well and should be able to beat them pretty soundly.
Realistically we probably go up 10+ and then have a fight to the finish on if we can throw the game away

I think this one will all come down to keeping them off the offensive glass.

Ole Miss seems to have our number. In the first game I remember the announcers mentioning that Bruce was going crazy on the refs because Saiz was basically throwing bows around and somehow that was turning in to fouls against us. Even the announcers were like "well he's got a point". Not that any of that really matters, but I expect Ole Miss to take this one...especially being in oxford.

I hate Saiz. He is a scrappy, johnny hustle, veteran player that knows how to push buttons and get away with fouls, and he has enough talent added to that to be more than just a mere nuisance. He is the type of player you hate playing against, but love if he is on your team.

They had no business losing the first game. Forgot it was the one where Purifoy got hurt and they couldn't find any offense. Eight point lead at halftime, and out-rebounded them offensively by 8 after getting Saiz in foul trouble.
Looking through the box score, Lang played 28 minutes and went 0-5 with two whole rebounds. Mostly an empty stat line, and one of those games where it looks like he doesn't care. Brown was useless. Waddell played 18. Wiley was still green and limited. Those things have all changed for the better.
Any chance Spencer plays? This is a game where we could really need him.

Brown was useless

Brown is shooting some 43% in SEC competition. He's had a couple bad games but overall he is looking improved

I literally said "welcome back, Bryce" to the TV last night
nice to see him finally dropping some like we all know he can.

He was just on a but if a shooting skid for 4-5 games before UT. He was hovering around 25%

I just wish he had made that dunk

He was 33% in SEC play before that. He's been >30% in 8/12 SEC games which is a huge improvement on the shitshow to start the year

quote:And he was 6/24 over a 4 game stretch from the first bama game to UT. I'm just saying, he wasn't shooting at a high enough level over a few games and he's come out of it strong.
He's been >30% in 8/12 SEC games
It's 100% an improvement over the beginning of the season, and it seems like the shots he hits are largely coming from playing within the offense. That has to be encouraging and make him want to run it correctly and get the other guys to as well.

quote:And it is directly related to his shot selection. He will still take a bad one here and there and still misses some good shots, but his decision making has been much better over the last several games. Even a couple of games where he didn't shoot a great percentage.
