College officiating has been awful this year. It ruins the game. Spencer gets called for playing good D and going straight up. Phantom traveling and palming. We have been the beneficiary of a lot of stupid calls too. I hate it.

It works for the NBA since their refs are pretty damn good and experienced.
The College refs just aren't good enough to handle freedom of movement rules

Texas Tech plays this same EKU team on Saturday... Will be interesting to see how that plays out before our game on Tuesday.

Yeah I agree. I just feel like if they swallowed their whistle 50% of the time it would make for a better game.
Oh well. I enjoy watching Auburn, and March Madness but that's all I can handle for college basketball.

I'm the same way. I watch Auburn and that's about it for college basketball. I watch almost every Hawks game and tons of other NBA games. The quality of the product isn't even close and a lot of the difference is officiating.

Edit: looked it up. We've averaged 49 fouls called through our first 3 games.

I'm not trying to tune into Animal Planets zebra special. Swallowing the whistle is the best course of action
One good change is calling travels on players who step before dribbling on drives. While not a huge deal, it is just sloppy play that occurred due to refs not calling it

In my opinion charges have gotten out of control. It seems any time a player halfway attempts to take a charge they give it to him. I about lost my shite when they called a charge on Laron Smith in the 1st half. He grabbed an offensive board off a missed FT, pivoted to the rim, never dribbled, went straight at the basket to lay it up. In the course of that, a small white guy ran under him and fell. Whistle...charge! It's just not possible.

Second time in the last decade.

We played like shite for most of the game and won by 20. That's nice. If these guys can clean up their play a little, this team might be good. Obviously the competition had been relatively weak, but past AU teams (even the pearl teams) would have lost at least 1 of these 3 games.

Those main weaknesses (defending the post, rebounding, sketchy half court offense) aren't things that will get better as the season goes on... They're gonna get exposed by teams wih size and good half court defense.
Texas tech will be a good test... They're gonna okay good defense.

You forgot Horace Spencer's dunking ability

This was the first team to play zone against us.
We didn't know what to do with it in the first half.
We made adjustments at half and you saw Heron and Purifoy attacking the zone in the 2nd half.
Heron despite being a freshman is the highest IQ player we have. He did some great things lastnight

Giving the ball to your best two players and saying "Here Ball, put in bucket" is pickup game mentality not a high level half court set
Our players adjusted, but let's not pretend like we have shown promise running a well executed half court offense.

-Rebounding at a decent level is 99% players need to stop being morons. 2-3 guys are waiting for a breakaway dunk before we corral the rebound
-Defending the post can be taught both technique/positioning to compensate for lack of size + team effort of denying passes/doubling the post
