I feel as if all of our games are boring and ugly and it eventually ends in a foul fest.
Then I watch other teams play, and it looks clean and controlled, and there aren't that many whistles.

I'm hoping that gets better with maturity. I just want to see improvement and fewer mistakes. We seem to be regressing in a lot of ways.

I do not agree with you in this instance. He's not Labron James and him being absent does not cause missed free throws, turnovers, or not setting an offense. A lot of times they're just flailing around the court, like a hybrid Street ball/college game.
Point blank, the talent is there, but the structure has been lacking. A structured team is capable of plugging players off the bench and still maintaining near consistent play.
