Except for the first 25 minutes of the Georgia game, we've sucked for 5 games in a row. I know we won 3, but those were over teams with losing records. We show no sign of being able to beat a good team, unless we can call the game with 15 minutes to go.

I wouldn't call beating Oklahoma and UConn away from home sucking, but ok.

Yeah, he technically said that, but pair that with all the other quotes and you don't get "sucking".

Dunans is playing like arse.

He looks like he predetermines what he's going to do before he even drives a lot. There are times that he seems just hell bent on making it to the hole and other that he could have something and makes a dumb dish.

I just wish he'd play like a senior. Starting all these freshmen is fine, but we're going to have some rough starts doing that. I'd really like to have a senior like Dunans be in there to keep everything steady. Too bad he's one of the most undisciplined guys we have right now.

Our 4 FR all make very glaring FR mistakes.

You can get away with a One FR making FR mistakes, hidden by veteran smart basketball around him

When it is 80% of your team and other 20% is TJ Dunans, you get exposed

The mistake they're making is not playing defense

UGA scored 100 on us only 61 on USCe

Vandy posted 80 on us with them resting the starters most the game. Vandy scored 63 on Dayton 55ish on Minnesota and 66 Butler.

USC Upstate 80+ on us. 61 on Bama. 60 on Georgetown, 57 on UNC Ashville.

My point is these teams doing this to us are NOT great teams with some prolific offenses. Nearly every game someone goes for a career high against us. The announcers have even called us out multiple times games this year.

I don't buy the Freshman excuse for our poor defense. You learn how to play man to man defense and 2/3 zones in jr. high. It's not difficult and it's not something you suddenly forget.

Right now they're playing AAU ball.

.... So trouble adjusting from AAU style that you play in HS to the college game isn't a "Freshmen" excuse?

They react to offensive sets slowly, don't communicate well, want to be heroes and oft give only token effort.

Sure as shite sounds like how you describe a FR having trouble transitioning to the college game with new higher demands on them

You haven't seen many high school games lately I take it. Very very few coaches teach fundamentally sound man to man defense and even fewer elite level players actually play it. They are able to coast on their athleticism and make up for poor fundamentals. Not only do they have to learn how to play defense but they also have to unlearn how they have played defense their entire lives up until college. It isn't just fundamentals they have to learn either. The urgency and amount of energy required to play defense at this level takes a while to adjust to as well. I have friends that played D1 basketball and the difference from playing against them before their 1st season and after is night and day even in something as simple as a pick up game.

Do you see any of our Freshman that appear to be getting it yet? Do any of the non-freshman play good D?

I know I shouldn't make this comparison, but does Heron remind anyone of Harden when he drives? Just very smooth with the ball when he attacks the rim.

I am very aware Heron isn't close to Harden talent wise

Harper and Purifoy are lost defensively, Heron is decent, McLemore plays with effort and it's still to early to judge Wiley. Spencer and Brown are very good defenders and need to see the court more I believe.

Wasn't Harden a 2nd round pick?

Wiley is there fundamentally. It shouldn't take long for him.

Purifoy's problem on both ends seems to be effort. I don't think he realizes how hard he has to play to be NBA caliber.

I love every part of Heron's game. Just improve shot selection and he'll be 1st team all SEC by next year.

I think I underestimated Harper at first. He's got the awareness to be a very good college player. Just more passing, less long 3 point shooting.
