I think a better way to look at this is what has been successful at Auburn prior. Our most successful coaches have had an understanding of how important "Family" culture to AU
I don’t necessarily agree that chiz and Gus were “family” before we hired them, but they helped build it.
We just need to hire the guy that can get into recruits momma’s houses and give them a sales pitch. Saban already said he lays out his national championship rings on their coffee tables and it’s a done deal. We have to deal with that, and now Kirby is doing it.
I guess Kiffin is the most man on a mission right now. He made some early life mistakes, but he’s got ole miss nearly in playoff potential. And since his dad was a major coach all his life. He seems very focused.

I like Kiffin. I like Prime. I also like most of the others mentioned as potentials other then possibly Freeze. However if he were named coach I'd support him.
Get someone that knows the back roads to the schools with talent, NIL supposedly is gonna be there to compete, hire a good staff and get to work. It's gonna take a couple years at least to get the roster back in place then it's a roll of the dice and how the ball bounces for us in some games

You’re so off on your take here.
Recruiting is top 3
Playing for the SEC championship 4 times winning one
Played in NC game twice winning one.
73-15 and has a chance to play for it all again this season.
If that isn’t the definition of highly successful and a HC that gets it, then I don’t know what to say.
He learned well from Saban and is legit.

1. Bama: they got Saban with no limits. He’s a legendary coach
There first choice was Rich Rod and he agreed then backed out, people forget this.
quote:
3. Clemson: took a chance on Dabo who played at Bama, understood Clemson’s culture and recruited to it.
Struugled his first 3 years but was known as a great recruiter.
quote:
4. Ohio St: he’s immersed in the program for years. He’s kept it at a high level.
Day was only at Ohio St for 2 years before being HC when Urban retired again. Day was more of a Chip Kelly mold (played and coached for Chip).

Auburn has some unique challenges as we operate geographically in Bama, UGA, and Florida’s footprint.
Bama and UGA recruit nationally now.
We need a recruiter who can identify and develop players who Bama/UGA don’t have room for.
There are so many good players within a 8 hour drive of AU. Find a guy who will do what Corch said and run the wheels of a car recruiting constantly. Finding every big body and elite athlete at any HS in AL, GA, and FL.
Don’t even need a plane. Just lots of diet dew and car rides.
Speak to every civic club, church group, and give clinics in any county we can get a car to.

This statement is true but they’re both mostly supplementing out of region versus relying on it. Though, Bama tends to go out of area more often
2023: UGA has 15 of 21 commits from GA or bordering states. 24/30 last season
2023: Bama has 13/23 from AL or bordering states. 17/25 last season

IMO we’ve gotta beat the Clemson’s, Florida’s, FSU, and Tennessee’s for the guys in AL/GA that UGA and Bama aren’t prioritizing. And then we’ve gotta beat UGA and Bama occasionally on top of it. And we’ve gotta regain some presence in Florida

Agreed. We have to be the number 2 for recruits in Atlanta, Mobile, Montgomery, B'ham at worst. Gotta get back to winning in Lagrange, Columbus, and south rural Georgia. Win a few in the panhandle down toward Orlando and try to steal a few from south florida. Cherry pick who you can get in the door with in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas but don't waste an entire cycle on those kids if you aren't the leader in the summer move on.
First out of region area I would hit would be the Maryland, North Carolina areas. They are starting to produce some really good talent in concentrated areas.

how about Opelika and Auburn?

yes for sure. But I can understand kids in the shadow of AU wanted to go to another place. I tell all my kids to get 1 1/2 hours away at a minimum from home if you want away from your parents to explore being an adult while in college.
If not go to UAB

Mike Leach may or may not be a good coach. Even outside of his weirdness he wouldn't be a culture fit at all at AU.
Yet, he's somehow a "culture fit" Starkville, MS? He's got them playing the best they have since Mullen (who also wasn't a culture fit).
Good coaches can coach ball regardless of where they're at.

IMO we’ve gotta beat the Clemson’s
The elevation of Clemson over the past decade (especially the last 5-7 years) has hurt Auburn more than anything. Bama was winning more than losing as far as H2H recruiting battles in state. UGA has pretty much had their pick of the absolute top kids in GA going back 20 years.
Auburn would pick off a few of the elite guys in AL and GA every now and then, then fill spots with 2nd tier guys from GA and get a few 3 and 4 star kids from MS and FL. Now, those top tier kids we used to get from AL and GA are going to Clemson. Clemson has kicked out arse on the trail for guys we had a legit shot at over the past 5-7 cycles. We have got to do something to make inroads there again or more of the same is in our future.
