It is also important to remember that not everything that is reported or posted on social media is accurate when it comes to coaching searches. In fact, some of it is disruptive, inaccurate and malicious. In our coaching search for example, no candidate was told that there were stipulations on who would serve on his coaching staff – not one. Only one trustee, who actually served on the search advisory group, had any part in the search process. Some candidates who reportedly “turned down” the Auburn job were never even offered the job. One candidate that made these statements never even had an interview, much less an offer.
Love this part!

What does backdoored mean? Seems it was done through the front door and Greene likely already has this guy on the main board
I agree. I don't know what 'backdoored' means.
It looks like the issue was that some of the money people convinced the other BOT members Gus needed to go, and had in place to strong arm Gogue and Greene to get Steele hired.
But the fans email, social media response was so negative and so large with #StopSteele, that the PTB had to back off when Gogue said we were going to have a committee, and Greene would handle it.
And the process went according to what Gogue said.
How is that backdooring? I don't see it. The backdooring was what the money mafia and BOT was trying to do to me.

Basically we fell into a great hire after the boosters tried to push Steele and intimidate Greene.

I'd guess that a lot of the rumoured coaches were the boosters operating outside of the official search

Ahh.. now i understand where you were coming from.
I agree. the backlash actually gave Gogue/Greene the ammo to take back control it seems.
I hope to hell it works...but it has a better feel than trying to stay competitive w Steele.
Still trying to figure out why the Money Mafia saw Steele as the best direction for Auburn.
I guess they thought keeping some of the staff in place would not be like starting from scratch. who knows...

I wonder if we'll see a rebuttal to Dr. Gogue from the 24-year old elementary school teacher shitting on the process who was featured in USA Today?

That is what the rant types cant grasp. Our board here can want Tom Brady as our coach. Feed false rumors to ignorant beat writers. It doesn't mean the president is considering it. This whole process really highlights how out of touch our beat writers are. Also, Bill Clark is a sleezy douche.

In the past couple of weeks, we received countless emails and notes with suggestions on selecting our next coach. Let me add that I read every one, and I appreciate your enthusiasm. Every Auburn voice is important.
I’d like to apologize to Dr. Gogue. I don’t often use “cocksuckers” in my correspondence with university presidents, but seemed prudent when describing the powerful boosters.

Yeah, lets just say there WAS booster "pressure" on Gogue to hire the booster's choice.
Gogue was retired. He came BACK to Auburn to help Auburn out of the AU BoT's previous terrible choice (Leath, who every swingin' Richard knew was terrible from the start).
So what "pressure" and "demands" (if they existed) did the boosters actually have on Gogue to get him to do what they want? Threaten to fire him so he could retire again like he wanted anyway?
Yeah, as frustrating as the whole process was publicly due to all the rumor-mongering and horrible reporting, the process was always straight-forward and done the right way. Period.
I've given AD AG shite for a while now (in my opinion, deservedly so), but I also admitted after this hire that he did good. He (and Gogue) did it right. And I think, of all the purported "choices" that Auburn had (not including the unrealistic like Urban Meyer), he got the best coach available.
