Isn't the hand part of the bat? Why was that a hit batter in the top of the 5th instead of a foul ball when it definitely hit his hand on a swing/checked swing?

Answering my own question and presenting another. It appears that the "hand is part of the bat" idea is made up and hated by umps. Basically, if he swung or if the pitch was in the strike zone, it would have been a strike. Since the pitch was a ball, it was considered a hit batsman and he gets first base, which was the call in this game.

My new question regards a batter making an effort to get out of the way. As I understand it, a batter is required to make a reasonable effort to avoid being hit. Otherwise, it is a ball and the batter's at bat continues. How is throwing your hands at a pitch in a checked swing considered attempting to get out of the way when the ball would not have hit him if he had stood still?

Snow puts the Tigers on the board with a solo shot. 3-1 A&M leads.

Myers on the mound through 7th with 5 k's after coming in for Tilly in the 4th.
Tilly got 6 k's but terrible start to the 3rd with a single, hbp and then the hr gave A&M their 3 runs.

Both teams only have 3 hits each.

7th inning stretch time. Need to get the bats going.

Edit:
Bub walks and Fralick belts one on a rope but CF made a great catch to end the threat. CF had started game in RF, if he wasn't moved to CF, I think the ball gets by the starting CF.

On to the 8th. Fisher comes in to relieve Myers.

I've been able to watch / listen. A&M starter had 5 k's through 5 innings. Reliever has 1 k through 2. Nothing special, just not hitting the holes.

Belyeu just led off the 8th with a single. Top of the order coming up. Let's go Rembert.

Edit:
FC by Rembert get's Cade out at 2nd.
Guevara gets a single and runners at 1st and 2nd with 1 out. Pitching changed with Irish coming to the plate.

Edit 2:
FC by Irish gets Guevara for out 2 and they call Guevara for runner interference for out #3. Blown opportunity in the 8th.

in both the bottom of the 6th and 7th we had someone on base and hit rockets to the outfield that would have scored the runner, but they made great plays.

Ouch! Just called runner interference to end our 8th with runners on the corners.

Headed to the bottom of 9th. Last chance Tigers. 3-1 A&M leads

Edit:
Steele jacks a solo 3-2

Edit 2:
2 outs, Fabian to ph, pitching change

Edit3:
Fly out ends it.

Playing a 7 or 8 seed in a super regional away series isnt the end of the world.

Just got home from the Met. One wonders about the decision to go with Tilly and not Dutton, but the pitching wasn’t the problem. The bats going cold was. Holding them to three should have been enough. Credit to them, though. Made some good defensive plays.
