This Cobb visit is really important to nail imo. On3 did a Q and A last night and some people asked about the RB board after Cobb and there was a pretty big drop off. We're kind of thin at RB too, especially after this year, so we need him.

RB recruiting hasn’t been great for a while now. I know we all love Caddy but that’s gotta change

Top RBs want to go where top Olinemen go. Not where crappy Olinemen that you have to fight for every yard you get goes.

OL has sucked for a while because the offense sucked or wasn’t a pro style. WRs want to run more than 3 routes. QBs want good receivers. Everyone has an excuse. I agree that there are tough sells but some of these guys are going to have to break the mold, IMO.

Isn't Cobb like #7 in the country? Considering how bad the offense in general is and specifically the OL I'm honestly not sure there's many people who can do better.

Edit-- not to mention he's been able to find and land the DJ Williams and Jarquez Hunters, so it shows he can still evaluate talent better than most even while we having trouble recruiting.

#8 in the composite. Im not quite sure he’s a complete back, though. And beyond Cobb I’m not sure what he does there.

Caddy has had some tough circumstances so I’m not throwing him under the bus.

- Tank in 2020
- He had the rug pulled out from under him in 2021 when the staff was canned before NSD. Would’ve signed the #7 RB in Goodwin. Did sign Hunter that year but that was supposedly Will Friend’s connection
- Damari Alston in 2022 was OK.

I just want to see more done there. It has felt like RB recruiting has been tough sledding. Maybe it’s all circumstances he can’t control but some of these coaches are going to have to outkick their coverage

On Hunter — Montgomery Adv

quote:

Will Friend, who Harsin hired to be his offensive line coach, had been recruiting the running back for years. Like Hunter, he’s from Philadelphia and played at Neshoba Central. He offered him at Tennessee and tried to again during a brief stint at South Carolina.

Auburn offered Hunter on Jan. 11, just four days after Friend joined Harsin’s staff. The running back didn’t announce his commitment until Feb. 5, but there wasn’t much suspense – three 247Sports analysts entered crystal ball predictions for the Tigers by Jan 12.

He did visit Auburn as a sophomore or Junior but wasn’t offered. Friend had been on this guy for years because they’re from the same city and was able to get that offer out because we had 3 guys leave the program + Goodwin sign with LSU.

Not saying Caddy wasn’t involved in any way. But that’s maybe Friend’s greatest achievement since being hired

I hear you. RB should never be a problem for Auburn to recruit. RB was the one position we could always count on getting a 5*.

You could say that about our recruiting as a whole honestly. I'm not saying Caddy in the best or anything, I think he's as good as his circumstances. In a great situation I think he can be a great recruiter, in a good situation he's a good recruiter. I don't think he's done bad here though.

Harsin seems to have a specific kind of guy he goes for too.. On ON3 they mentioned a few DBs would could have had already, but they didn't fit the mold of what they are looking for. So its hard to tell who (if any) Caddy might have wanted to go after, but didn't get the OK.

Outside of Dell though, I can't think of any RB coach I think that could step in and have a big impact on our recruiting.

I'd be very wary of someone who has been a lean to a certain school for a while, commits', and suddenly does a pivot to us. Could very well be he is playing the original school for a more lucrative NIL deal. Or maybe our deal is better

All this talk of good "recruiting" coaches in the age of NIL, some of you, bless your hearts, think Anna Nicole Smith married for love dont you.

Some crootin roundup since Rig ran AUF away:

- 4* DE Wilky Denaud will OV to Auburn this fall. 2 visits this spring went really well and he wants to bring some family with him
- 3* OL Connor Lew, likely a C, wants to be a pilot. This development obviously is good news for AU who has one of the better programs for it
- 4* S Cedric Hawkins visiting Auburn is a big deal because Ryan Day doesn’t typically like his commits visiting places if they’re committed. If he makes it this weekend it’s a great sign for Auburn
- Dukes and Clemente seem to think Auburn has a real shot with 4* LB Lewis Carter. His nickname is Hurricane, though. So Miami will be in this to the end
- Bo Hughley might not be back this weekend. Dukes found out he made that plan without figuring out the details. He visited last weekend for an official

Another recent note: 4* OG Clay Wedin committed to Michigan State. As jt33 mentioned, somehow he slid down the staff’s board. Maybe because they’re confident in McElderry now. As I’ve stated before — I think this is a mistake if that’s true. That’s how we get into and stay in this OL mess

He seemed like personality wise he was made for Auburn too. Yeah I just don't get this. They better nail the OL class this year if they are passing on guys like this.

I agree Jones. Wedin is quite puzzling. Sliding down our board, heck as short as we are we should have a whole forest not a board, and take every decent kid we have targeted, nonsense being picky when you have the extra schollys as well.

he didn't run me away I've just focusing on the baseball games and other things. Clemente posted we've offered a JUCO LB from Memphis Justin Jefferson and said he's one to keep an eye on. We also offered 2023 4* OT Zalance Heard.

From Louisiana, so LSU is the favorite, but he's also friends with Enyce Sledge. He said he might visit, but nothing locked in.

Clemente posted that Stanton Ramil's top 8 are: Auburn, Clemson, Michigan State, Pitt, UNC, Mississippi State, Penn State and Tennessee. He said it's an Auburn, UNC, Tennessee, and Pitt battle, but if Bama offers that's where it could get concerning.

I doubt Bama will get involved in his recruitment
