Touche. Most of Utah's NFL draftees are lineman (and RB's). I just looked up who was drafted from the Utes from 2017 forward and 9 out of 21 NFL draftees are Pacific Islanders. Culturally, those dudes have what you want as well. A servant culture, large, close families and religiously devout. Personally I think a team like Utah would be able to compete in the SEC because of their lineman, but would normally lose to the top 5-6 in the SEC consistiently because we never sign great skill athletes. Good RB's and TE's typically, but probably not up to snuff in the secondary and WR.

Who would you consider their top linemen currently at UT? Or are you just saying collectively they are a good OL because I would agree. Once they get churning they are a beasty bunch

I'm saying Pacific Islanders are country stong, talented, jumbo athletes. As far as Utah's OL and DL, Probably Nick Ford is the top guy this year, who's played C and OG when figuring things out on the OL. 3 year starter. Also Bamiidele Olaseni, who AU offered and recruited out of JUCO. This is his second year here and the light has really turned on for him. He's a 6'7", 330 LT. On the defense 6 of 11 starters are Pacific Islanders. Here's a snapshot of the two-deep. Those PI guys that are second team are going to ball and sell out on effort. I never worry about Whittingham or Utah having solid lines.

Yep. I think he’ll count toward both scholly allotments. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him end up more focused on bball but he’ll give both a shot, atleast for a season or two

One of the few kids each couple of classes that is a really, really good defensive back and really, really good point guard. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him excel on either side of the ball

I don't remember the cadence but game one or two I think he moved or got snaps at RT. The OL was not good early which is uncharastic. Ludwig and Harding moved some people around to find the best combo. Both of them are trusted and battle-tested. I've got to say they have seemed to have figured it out.

As far as Covey, he's probably related to Franklin Covey but IDK how close. Lineage is very important and a little myopic out here and part of the culture. I'm both a Utahn and an interloper on some things. I'm fine with that. I love it here.

I did and let’s stick to posts about recruiting please.

The 4 star OT sure would be a great addition.

It would have been a brief exchange on Utah with some common interest between two posters. There was no need to be a hall monitor.

I looked at targets today and I don’t remember seeing OG targets or missed it. I saw like 4-5 OT’s. Are there some guards we are after or some of the OT’s project better st guard?

You guys are so serious nowadays I can’t keep up

I’m all in on the utah talk. Of all the shite that gets spammed in this thread I’m not going to take down my guy alpine and his love for the Pacific Ocean nasties.

How many people had these? They were folklore by the time I was in elementary school

Yeah I’m not sure we have a real OT yet, although Eston Harris will get a look.

The root of the OT/OG issue is that most good OL in high school play Tackle out of need. It’s why a lot of receivers play QB in HS. Recruiting services try to pin down how schools offer the recruit but most schools leave the door open for OT even if the kid is destined to play inside. And then there’s the fact that most OL at smaller schools also play DL.

That’s why Agbo is so important. He’s probably the first lock for Tackle.

Bobo might be a center. Eston might play Tackle but seems like a guard. Woody is probably a DT

I was a hall monitor once or twice. We got to wear a sash and I remember feeling like a cop. Was like 3rd grade maybe.

OL is such a tough position to project, recruit, and develop. Bama has recruited lights out recently on OL and it is their weakest group.

I actually liked Gus’ strategy of prioritizing SEC bodies on OL as a secondary strategy — a guy or two each class that is purely developmental but has the size and athleticism. I think with the right coach and system it could work but they couldn’t get it going. Especially when that was their only play
