Four-star DB Jaylin Simpson commits to Auburn (247)
quote:

Cornerback is a priority position for Auburn in the 2019 recruiting cycle and the Tigers now have two players at that position on board.

First, it was Cordale Flott of Saraland (Ala.).

Now, you can add Jaylin Simpson to the commit list.

The 4-star defensive back from St. Simons Island (Ga.) Frederica Academy publicly committed to the Tigers on Monday morning. According to Simpson, he gave a silent commitment to Gus Malzahn and the Auburn staff on Saturday during a visit to the school with his mother and sister.

“I committed — 1,000 percent committed to Auburn,” Simpson said. "My family had a great visit. They felt it was a great place for me. We're all pretty confident. I think it's best for us."

The 5-feet-11, 170-pound Simpson is the No. 28 athlete nationally in the industry generated 247Sports Composite. He ranks as the No. 33 prospect in talent-rich Georgia.

Simpson chose Auburn over programs such as Nebraska and South Carolina.

For a 7-4 squad in 2017, Simpson was the team’s starting quarterback due to injuries. He passed for 985 yards while adding 1,022 rushing yards. He combined for 22 offensive touchdowns.

One defense, Simpson played mostly at safety, where he recorded 35 total tackles and four interceptions.

“He’s an ultimate team player,” said Alex Mathis, assistant and college recruiting coordinator at Frederica Academy. “He showed that this year when we needed him to play quarterback and did that and did it at a high level. A coach’s dream player.”

Simpson is commitment No. 5 for Auburn. Three of the five commits for 2019 have 4-star ratings in the 247Sports Composite.

With his pledge, the Tigers moved from No. 32 in the recruiting rankings up to No. 25. He is Auburn’s second corner commit in two weeks. Flott gave the Tigers his verbal April 17. He chose Auburn over Florida.

"Coach Malzahn told me I'm built for this place," Simpson said. "He wants me here 100 percent, without a doubt. That's all I needed to hear."

The three-day weekend visit was only Simpson’s second trip to Auburn. His first took place March 29 — and the Tigers made a great first impression. Upon leaving for home, he put Auburn on top.

“The visit was a lot different from the other ones,” Simpson said. “A lot of stuff stood out such as academics, sports, all that. I just had a good time and I’ll definitely be back again.”

True to his word, he returned Friday with two family members. Not only was it his mother’s first visit to Auburn but it was her first time visiting a college on a recruiting trip period.

Now, Auburn plays the waiting game with 4-star athlete Jashawn Sheffield, Simpson’s teammate at Frederica Academy. He also is visiting the Tigers this weekend with family. And, like Simpson, Sheffield had the Tigers in front entering the trip.

After having two commitments since January, the Tigers now have three verbals in April alone

BREAKING: Auburn lands versatile south Georgia defensive back as fifth commit in 2019 class (SECCountry)
quote:

AUBURN, Ala. — Jaylin Simpson‘s second spring Auburn visit proved to be enough.

The 4-star cornerback from Frederica Academy (Ga.) took a family trip over the weekend with his mother, high school coach and teammate Jashawn Sheffield. Simpson, who hinted at this as a possibility on his initial Auburn visit, committed to the Tigers’ staff on Saturday to become the fifth pledge in the Class of 2019.

Simpson made his commitment public on Monday with Auburn beating out Clemson, Florida State, South Carolina, Miami and others.

“I committed. I’m 1000 percent committed to Auburn,” Simpson said. “I had a great visit. It was my second visit here. My family felt it was a great place for me. I talked it over with them, and we’re all pretty confident. This is the place for us.”

Simpson plays multiple positions for his south Georgia high school. He has lined up at quarterback, running back, wide receiver and defensive back and has played a role in special teams. Auburn likes him as a cornerback with the ability to play safety — the second corner to commit in the 2019 class alongside Mobile-area commit Cordale Flott.

With Simpson’s commitment, Auburn moves up seven spots to No. 25 in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings.

Simpson’s announcement sparks a what is expected to be a busy few days in Auburn recruiting. It remains possible Simpson’s high school teammate Jashawn Sheffield — who is also with family on an Auburn visit — commits to the Tigers sometime in the near future. Grayson (Ga.) high school teammates Owen Pappoe (Georgia or Auburn) and Wanya Morris (Tennessee or Auburn) will commit to their schools of choice on Tuesday.

Simpson and Sheffield have a recruiting-circuit friendship with both of those prospects.

Simpson ranks as the nation’s No. 28 athlete and No. 319 overall prospect in the country. He’s the 33rd-ranked player in the state of Georgia in the 247Sports composite rankings.

Looking like if we land Pappoe, Sheffield, and Deal we'll move to #12 on the 247 rankings and if we manage to land Morris as well then we'll jump to #8. Regardless of who Auburn gets I think we're about to gain a whole lot of momentum leading into the summer and next fall.

We would also be 6th in rating per recruit FWIW w/ a 91.57 average grade.

Rivals 250 DE Justin Eboigbe reveals his final five (Rivals)
quote:

Justin Eboigbe really started to blow up late in 2017, then when the new year rolled in, the offers were coming fast and furious. Well over two dozen schools have offered the 6-foot-5, 261 pound athlete defensive lineman out of Forest Park (Ga.) and now only five remain in the race.

The four-star grew up a fan of the Auburn Tigers because of Cam Newton, so did they make the cut? Eboigbe breaks it all down.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: "It was somewhat tough to get down to five schools, but I can only go to one school, so I am down to the five that have been on my mind the most," said Eboigbe. "My final five schools are Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and Tennessee. I will commit to one of those schools when I make my decision."

ALABAMA: "It is the prestige of the university that stands out. It is a great feeling on campus. I like coach Kul (Craig Kuligowski, defensive line) and coach [Tosh) Lupoi a lot and they both think I really fit into the scheme there. Coach Nick Saban's track record speaks for itself and they get better there every day. The precedent has been set there."

AUBURN: "I am really liking coach [Rodney] Garner and the way he is coaching and producing defensive linemen. He has a great defensive line now at Auburn and he put a lot of good ones in the NFL when he was at Georgia too. I watched him during spring practice and he really gives each player a lot of attention and I liked that."

CLEMSON: "When I was there for my visit, it was a great feel. I was there for the first spring practice and I liked it a lot. I have gotten to know coach [Todd] Bates and I talk to coach Venables and coach Dabo Swinney pretty well too. I like how I fit into the scheme there and I think coach Bates can develop me. Their defense has been one of the best in the nation the last few years, so they are doing good things there."

[b]GEORGIA:
"I think the coaching staff at Georgia is great. I have gotten really close with coach [Tray] Scott and we have been in contact a lot. He is a younger coach who can relate to me and I really feel he could develop me as a player. I feel Kirby Smart is bringing Georgia back. They have been blowing it up over the past year."

TENNESSEE: "With Tennessee, it is about development. Coach [Tracy] Rocker has a great track record and he actually started recruiting me when he was at Georgia. He was one of the first coaches to come by the school to see me and he really knows how to coach defensive linemen. He really knows how to make his players the best they can be and I like that."

NEXT: "I do not have any visits scheduled right now, but I may take a few this summer. I am just going to take my time and weigh the options I have. I am down to five schools, so I am going to focus on them. I know I will see each of the five schools at least one more time before I make my decision."

DECISION TIMELINE: "It is probably going to be after the season when I commit. I will probably take my official visits during the season. It is not really going to be about how a school plays this season or who wins the most games, but about how I feel. I want to have the feeling of being at home. I want to have that different feeling on one campus and when I feel that, I know that is the school for me."

RIVALS REACTION: Eboigbe is in no rush to make his decision, so expect him to take his time and to not make a decision until he knows 100-percent where he wants to go. He is doing his homework behind the scenes, developing relationships and searching for the perfect fit. Some feel it could be an Auburn vs. Georgia battle for Eboigbe, but he has made it clear that there are no favorites at this time. He will attend games this season and take official visits in the fall and that will be the deciding factor. It will be all about the feel he has on each campus.

Where Auburn stands with 5-star LB Owen Pappoe, elite T Wanya Morris day before decisions (SECCountry)
quote:

This will shock you: I’m having trouble getting questions not about 5-star linebacker Owen Pappoe and 4-star tackle Wanya Morris.

That’s OK.

That’s the way it should be.

It’ll probably be that way for the Tuesday question of the day, too.

The long-awaited decision is finally upon us. Pappoe and Morris — along with high school teammates Kenyatta Watson and Kevin Harris — will make announcements Tuesday on a live TV broadcast from Sports and Social at the Battery Atlanta. (Side note: SEC Country will have its own coverage on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET, so stay tuned).

Pappoe and Morris are the two Auburn has its sights set on.

In Morris’ case, the tea leaves don’t look great for Auburn.

He set up back-to-back official visits to Tennessee and Auburn. Morris and his mother took that trip to Knoxville two weekends ago. He didn’t make the planned trip to Auburn, according to sources, despite a continued effort late into Saturday. The Tigers’ best hope is likely his friendship with Auburn center commit Jakai Clark, but the cancelled official visit is generally a solid indication.

As for Pappoe, Auburn might be on the verge of its first 5-star commitment since Calvin Ashley (T.D. Moultry didn’t become a 5-star until after he was already committed). This is my third cycle covering Auburn recruiting, and it isn’t hyperbole to say Pappoe would be the most critical commitment in my time covering the program.

That’s what I expect to happen.

Auburn has come on strong this spring thanks to the work done by linebackers coach Travis Williams. Pappoe has visited Auburn many more times than has been reported, and there have been at least three reported Plains trips in the last two months.

Auburn needs a big — and I mean big — state of Georgia recruiting win against the University of Georgia. There may be no bigger prospect to do that than Pappoe.

Auburn WR commit Kobe Hudson expects to be class builder (SECCountry)
quote:

Kobe Hudson has names in mind for Auburn’s 2020 class

LAGRANGE, Ga. — Many people might ask why a 2020 prospect would commit this early.

For Kobe Hudson, he already felt like he waited too long.

When he visited Auburn last summer for a 7-on-7 camp, he felt like he was ready. His relationship with Gus Malzahn was in full bloom. But his parents and coaches, as they admitted at his commitment ceremony, played the role of devil’s advocate to ensure Hudson made the smart, patient decision.

Hudson announced it at the end of last week. By that point, he’d known for a while — long enough to confidently commit.

“A year, a year, a whole year,” Hudson said.

That commitment comes with many perks for Auburn.

The obvious: Kobe Hudson is one of the elite prospects in the 2020 class.

More than that, however, Hudson automatically provides some insurance for fellow 2020 commit Andy Boykin, who has shown heavy interest of late in Georgia. Boykin spoke with SEC Country shortly after Hudson’s decision and talked almost exclusively about how cool it is that the two will play together in college.

Hudson will make sure Boykin and others see what he sees in the Tigers.

“I can keep him on track now. I can make sure stays with Auburn,” Hudson said. “I wanted to go ahead and commit so we can build the class. We can really get the ball rolling now.”

Hudson has two wide receivers in particular who he’d like to play alongside. One is 4-star Miami commit Jermaine Burton, who has made a strong early case as the top wide receiver in the 2020 class. Burton looks fairly locked in, but Hudson said he’ll give it a try. The other is lesser-known prospect Josh Downs from North Gwinnett (Ga.). He holds offers right now from Cincinnati, Kansas State, Kentucky and others.

“We’re gonna get them all,” Hudson said with a smile

Schools recruiting Jaylin Simpson day of commitment

Jaylin Simpson committed to Auburn on Monday as had been forecasted over the weekend. It was as close to a sure thing as there is in recruiting. That didn’t stop a few other SEC foes from making last-minute stabs.

South Carolina and Florida coaches — who undoubtedly heard about a potential Auburn commitment upcoming — made their way Monday to Frederica Academy in St. Simons Island, Ga., to try to do some final convincing. That can be a tough thing for high school prospects to deal with, but Simpson still committed to Auburn.

He quickly began recruiting for the Tigers himself.

Here are some other uncommitted 2019 prospects who I’ve seen or heard from who reacted positively to Simpson’s Auburn pledge.

LB Owen Pappoe
ATH Jashawn Sheffield
DL Curtis Fann
OL Keiondre Jones

I would like all 4 of those plz

The shortest Owen Pappoe note is all that’s necessary

I know all anyone wants to know is whether Auburn will land 5-star linebacker Owen Pappoe. There isn’t much more to say about it than what has been written recently — or really for the last month or so, for that matter. When Pappoe announces Tuesday (should be a little after 6:30 p.m. ET), my prediction remains that he’ll choose Auburn. Nothing has changed in the last days or hours leading up to the choice. I don’t think this has been going back and forth a great deal either, though both Auburn and Georgia have made worthy cases to Pappoe.

My understanding is that the Tigers have led for a while, and that will ride into the Tuesday decision.

I hope that’s enough for you.

Wolk sounds super confident. He's an UGA grad so really hoping he's plugged in on this one

I’m gonna be salty if or seemingly when we lose Morris to a terrible program with a rookie head coach with two of his buddies committed at our number 1 position of need.

Doubt it. Per 07 on the Bunker Morris is reading to shut recruiting down. He's drained by the whole process.

Rusty just posted thread title "Tomorrow likely not the end" basically saying even tho Pappoe will claim he wants process over Rusty thinks recruitment will continue.

Also one of UGA 247 "insiders" posted this beauty
quote:

I'll break this down as simply as I can so no one thinks I'm full of it.

Info I have: Up until Thursday I was hearing all UGA, and that the man at the top thought we had him. Friday/Saturday I was told Auburn felt confident but still made their last pitch to his family while he was in Austin. Yesterday continued to hear more Auburn. The reason I was interested in Dawg Treats this morning was to see if Owen had called either staff. As of this post I don't believe he has told any staff anything still.

My speculation: I keep getting told "Owen is going to do what Owen wants to do." While I believe that, I believe some external factors are at least pulling him toward Auburn from GHS. The Clark kid is one, but as my boy crit said, there is also a Grayson coach who now works for Under Armour... No I'm not implying anything against the rules. Just saying it could be a pull. Again, that's my speculation.

My opinion: I still think if he truly wants a surprise it'll be UGA tomorrow. What's surprising about Auburn? Also, I can see why our depth chart ain't exactly appealing. Tindall, Rice, Reese and Walker. Ain't no way around that. As back and forth as it is, the kid ain't ready to decide and he shouldn't. I just find it funny how they can't get Wanya but they can somehow pull the biggest fish out of the 4...

My pick: If OP does pick Auburn, it is a loss. No excuses. We got beat. Having said that, I can't shake the feeling that this is a misdirection. Again, all my info from people I trust says Auburn tomorrow. They say T. Williams recruited his family and convinced him that he's a 3-and-done immediate superstar on The Plains. For me, I'm going against the grain, sticking to my guns and staying with the Dawgs. It would be easy and bush league (IMO) to switch to Auburn now. I think he truly decides to surprise everybody and stay home based on his relationship with Kirby and Glenn Schumann, as well as other commits like Marshall. If I'm wrong, fire away.

Go Dawgs!!
