Turnage said he grew up an AU fan cuz he liked Cam. This last weekend was his first visit to the Plains. It helps if kids have some sort of affinity but obviously need a bigger connection for it to matter

Matthew Hill's godfather ran cross country for AU. He'd visited AU for every junior camp of his high school career. That's a fan that signed

Coynis Miller & Seth Williams both grew up "Alabama fans" & signed with us. If a player doesn't have some sort of actual family connection or has visited numerous times BEFORE they became a big time recruit then I would take the "fan" tidbit with a grain of salt. A lot of recruits just really liked Cam

KN put up an insider on Anderson last night

- Expected to arrive at AU around 3 PM CT. His parents & younger sis won't be here till Saturday evening as they had something else they had to do Friday night

- Right now AU is running 3rd behind the 2 schools he's already visited in Texas & Michigan. Anderson says AU is close to them tho

- Apparently he speaks with Gus Malzahn, Chip Lindsey & JB Grimes everyday. Him & Lindsey are close

- He wants to focus mostly on football on this visit. Sit down with coaches & watch film to see how they think he fits into AU's system & if he clicks with the other players

- Anderson's sister is apparently a potential track & field recruit (she's a sophomore in high school) & will tour the track & field facilities while on the visit

- There's a chance this is Anderson's last OV before his decision (Texas A&M offered last night so that could make things interesting)

- Sounds like sources split on AU's chances. Some think AU has a good shot while others think he is probably a long shot

- The main pitch to Anderson is coming to play in SEC will best prepare him for the NFL due to talent of DL he will be facing

- Sounds like AU wants a grad transfer OL no matter what. KN says they have started researching other targets in case they miss on Anderson. AU has 2 open spots. They view grad transfers as low risk due to them only being here a year

Sounds like we have swapped recruiting JUCOs for adding a few grad transfers every year to help at positions coaches are nervous about. Still think Anderson ends up at Texas but we will see

Alright so here are some 2019 OT targets to keep an eye on in the early going. AU has already offered 16 prospects. We offered at total of 22 in last year's class

4* Harry Miller | Buford, GA - Probably a pipe dream but he's my favorite OL in southeast other than Clay Webb. Could play all 3 positions on OL. Think he could play early with his skillset. Not sure how much we are on his radar
Highlights

4* Wanya Morris | Loganville, GA - decommitted from FSU after visiting AU for the Iron Bowl but UGA is thought to now have the momentum. AU is in his top group tho. Huge frame but will need to get bigger/stronger at next level. Part of that loaded Grayson squad
Highlights

4* Amari Kight | Alabaster, AL - Massive human being at 6'7" 315 lbs but light on his feet. Would be runaway top OL in state any other year but Clay Webb & Pierce Quick are both a notch above. Unfortunately looks like he's all Bama but man would love to steal him. Could be future NFL LT
Highlights

4* Darius Thomas | Jonesboro, AR - Apparently is very high on Malzahn. Has visited twice. Another massive kid at 6'6" 310 lbs. Obviously some concerns about competition playing in AR but looks like an SEC OT. Think we got a legit shot at him
Highlights

4* Warren McClendon | Brunswick, GA - Major AU target but he's also a guy UGA likes. Huge wingspan but will need some time to develop. Gotta pull at least 1-2 of these higher ranked kids out of GA next season
Highlights

3* Carter Colquitt | Buford, GA - Teammates with Harry Miller. AU I think is his early leader. Could play OG or OT at next level. Would love for AU to go ahead & get this kid on board this spring if possible
Highlights

Dream OT group for me would be Kight, Miller & Thomas but that's a pipedream. If we could get Thomas, Colquitt & maybe McClendon that would be a big win. Some other names like Adrian Medley, Michael Tarwuin & Howard Allen to keep an eye on as well. Pretty sure Allen is somehow related to Jeff Holland

Mississippi's No. 1 WR visits Auburn, lands offer (Rivals)
quote:

AUBURN | Class of 2019 wide receiver Dannis Jackson was offered by Auburn last Saturday during a visit for Junior Day.

The offer didn’t come as a surprise to Jackson, a four-star recruit from Sumrall, Miss.

“I felt like there was a good chance I was going to get it,” Jackson said. “They came to the school and (Gus Malzahn) just doesn’t go everywhere, so obviously they were interested. I was hoping that I got the offer and I did.”

Jackson now has more than a dozen offers, most of which come from Power 5 schools. That includes Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee and Oregon. The offer from Auburn is one Jackson had been waiting on and hoping for.

“It’s a big offer,” Jackson said. “It meant a lot because Auburn is a pretty good school and has a great program. They have a nice fanbase, put a lot of guys in the NFL and that’s the main goal. That’s a big part of it for me.”

New assistant Marcus Woodson is recruiting Jackson to Auburn. Woodson, who has ties to the state of Mississippi, is an asset to Auburn. He and Jackson already have developed a bond.

“He’s from Mississippi and Mississippi people stick together,” Jackson said. “That’s a big part of it. I feel like if he likes it we’ll probably like it. I just want to get to know everybody.”

Jackson made the visit to Auburn with another Mississippi four-star recruit, Horn Lake linebacker Nakobe Dean. Auburn has made both Jackson and Dean priorities in the 2019 class. The two play against each other in high school, but are considering changing that in college.

“Me and Nate, we have known each other for a long time and played against each other for a long time since middle school,” Jackson said. “It would be great to be on the same team as him. If we find a school that fits us both we might just go together.”

Jackson will return to Auburn in the spring or summer.

“I plan on coming back to Auburn,” Jackson said. “I like it and want to learn more about it. It’s definitely a place I could consider.”

Jackson, who is ranked the No. 1 wide receiver in Mississippi and No. 8 player overall, doesn’t expect to make a commitment before taking more visits.

“I don’t want to commit to anything early because when I commit I want to be for sure I’m going there,” Jackson said. “I’m going to wait it out and be for sure that’s the school I’m going to.”

I feel like we say this every year with Bama & it never works

The positive is at one point last year I thought Bama would land Justyn Ross, Coynis Miller, Asa Martin & Seth Williams so things will change. Right now Bama looks like it's gonna cleanup instate but we won some big battles last year. Need to win a few again

Clay Webb, Amari Kight & Christian Williams is the dream

Rivals.com top 25 recruiters of 2018 (Rivals)

quote:

KODI BURNS, AUBURN

The Auburn coaches divvied up recruiting duties pretty evenly in the 2018 class, but if there was one standout on the staff Burns could get the nod. The co-offensive coordinator also leads the Tigers' receiving corps and he added four new bodies to the room with this class, including a trio of Rivals250 prosepcts in Seth Williams, Anthony Schwartz and Matthew Hill. A fourth wide receiver pick-up, Shedrick Jackson, sits just outside of four-star territory. Burns had to out-recruit the likes of Mississippi State, Georgia Tech and Missouri for his signature.

I chuckled at the "co-offensive coordinator" part

Bingo.

If we lose someone like Bo Nix, then yeah that's just sucky. Nathaniel Watson is a guy that grew up an AU fan...we just happened to not want him.

Lol. Rivals has Kodi in the top 25 while the composite has him 162 with him being the primary recruiter on only 1 of his 4 WR commits. Seth Williams.

LSU 247 has story up on 4* WR Quinton Torbor who continues to say has a top 2 of AU/MSST. Apparently really likes Malzahn & the staff. Also said this about the campus "The campus was great and was a sight for sore eyes."

Reggie played RB in high school and had over 1200 rushing yards his senior year. Probably so.

Auburn set to host Rice grad-transfer tackle Calvin Anderson on official visit (SECCountry)
quote:

Auburn to host grad transfer on official visit

National Signing Day has come and gone, but Auburn’s recruiting work in this cycle is incomplete.

Most of the complaints received after Wednesday — and throughout the 2018 cycle — centered around the Tigers’ inability to haul in a tackle in this class. Auburn missed on all of its targets at tackle, including but not limited to Richard Gouraige, Jalen Goss, William Barnes and Dylan Wonnum. Few of those prospects, however, bring immediate-impact ability.

Enter Calvin Anderson.

Anderson started 36 straight games at left tackle for Rice. According to Pro Football Focus, he finished the 2017 football season tied for third in the nation with only seven pressures allowed. After his redshirt junior season, Anderson decided it was time to transfer. He has become one of the hottest recruiting commodities among programs searching for a Day 1 starter.

Auburn is a part of that group.

Anderson will arrive for his official visit to the Plains on Friday afternoon. He has already taken official visits to Texas and Michigan. For that reason alone, Auburn trails those two blue-blood programs. The Tigers will try to flip the script this weekend when they host Anderson.

There’s no doubt he’s the top priority for the Tigers.

Gus Malzahn already traveled to Houston for an in-home visit with Anderson. Chip Lindsey and J.B. Grimes (and Herb Hand) all went out to see Anderson multiple times on Auburn’s behalf. The Hand factor becomes interesting in this recruitment given the relationship he built with Anderson before making his move to Texas, which is perceived as the favorite in this recruitment.

Texas has a few things playing in its favor, including Hand. Anderson played high school football in Austin, so it would mean returning home for the 2018 season. On top of that, the Longhorns have made a greater effort to guarantee Anderson a starting role.

It’s easy to assume the home-state school will win out, but this recruitment is slightly different. Anderson is searching for a school with the sole purpose of bettering his 2019 NFL Draft stock. His decision doesn’t come down to family or proximity. It’s all about his ability to move up the draft boards.

Auburn has a few things the other programs do not. The Tigers can boast the Southeastern Conference, which Anderson pointed out during a phone conversation with SEC Country. Auburn also can sell Anderson on the chance to play every day in practice against a defensive line that will, once again, be one of the best in the nation. And lastly, the Tigers have a vacancy at left tackle, which is what coaches have already sold to Anderson.

This weekend will be Auburn’s final chance to impress Anderson, as he expects to make a decision after this official visit.
