Commit! Auburn lands in-state DB (247)
quote:
Auburn has landed a surprise commitment Tuesday.
Three-star cornerback/safety Cordale Flott of Saraland (Ala.) gave his pledge to the Tigers, making the announcement via Twitter.
The 6-feet-1, 165-pound Flott is the No. 40 recruit in the state of Alabama for the industry generated 247Sports Composite.
"I'd like to thank my coaches all along the way," Flott Tweeted. "With that being said, I am committed to Auburn."
Flott is commitment No. 4 for the Tigers. He joins 4-star quarterback Bo Nix of Pinson Valley (Ala.), 4-star receiver George Pickens of Hoover (Ala.) and 3-star cnter Jakai Clark of Grayson (Ga.).
The Tigers now have the No. 29 class in the country.
Flott's commitment came out of left field. But we can confirm the Tigers accepted his pledge. He spoke to Auburn coach Gus Malzahn on Tuesday morning.
Flott visited Florida last week -- and immediately put the Gators on top. But ultimately, Auburn won out.
With his size and athleticism, he could play corner or safety. He has great length, something that could assist him in pass coverage.
Auburn offered Flott on Feb. 28 and immediately became a factor.
On March, Flott told John Garcia of 247Sports that Auburn, Alabama and Ole Miss stood out.
"Auburn sort of felt like I was in my hometown," he said. "Alabama and Ole Miss was a little different feel. I actually can see myself at all of them, though, that's why its such a hard decision to make."
He added, "I know whoever I choose I'm going to have to be with them three to four years and I'm trying to build a relationship based on when my parents leave me at college. I want to be able to lean on them and I felt that at Auburn."
Flott's commitment potentially could start a big roll for Auburn.
Two four-star recruits -- cornerback Jaylin Simpson and safety/athlete Jashawn Sheffield -- of Saint Simons Island (Ga.) will visit April 27-29. Both are strong Auburn leans at this time.
Also that weekend, 4-star offensive tackle Wanya Morris of Grayson (Ga.) is expected to officially visit. Ditto for 4-star tight end Luke Deal of South Carolina.
On May 1, Morris and 5-star linebacker target Owen Pappoe, also of Grayson, will announce their commitments. Auburn is a finalist for both.
At defensive back, Auburn likely will add three or four more recruits to the 2019 class.
Overall, the class is expected to include a total number of signees in the low 20s.

Clemson insider just CB Pappoe to AU. At one point in time Pappoe was trending to CLEM so deserves a little attention...

What would a hypothetical class ranking look like if we were to land Sheffield, Simpson, Morris, and Pappoe?

I think we'd jump to 3rd.

If that were to happen today AU would jump to #6 just ahead of Bama & just behind UGA

6th overall.
3rd in ranking per recruit which is a better measure of class quality. Our recruit average score would be 93.678.

A jump from #29 to #6 in only a matter of weeks would be pretty damn impressive, trying not to get my hopes up too high though

I'm excited about it but the UGA fans seem convinced that Pappoe is just using us and will end up there.

Nearly all elite level players get paid and nearly all elite level players take PEDs, ours included.
+1 for the Bill Withers meme.
Really like Flott. Him and Simpson/Sheffield is a pretty solid DB class.. I figure we still add 1 or 2 more as well.
