RT @benjaminwolk : 5-star WR George Pickens admits his Auburn commitment was wavering at times amid some of the offseason noise. His official visit last weekend, however, reminded him why he chose the Tigers in the first place.

The whole “back-up” plan narrative that’s spun here is usually by folks that don’t follow recruiting. And every time I say this there’s folks that get their panties in a wad but the same 25 kids are every D1’s team top target and the rest of the pool are inherently back-up plans. Do the math and relax

Also is Jalen Curry a lock to Penn State or do we still have a shot?

I think Curry missed his window to commit to AU. Actually had some CBs recently too Arizona which is where is QB teammate is committed right now

AU is gonna stick with Pickens/Johnson at WR

Honestly what's most encouraging so far this cycle is that for most part staff have gotten guys near top of their list. OT is really only position where we are hunting for anything. RB to an extent but Richards we were always high on & DJ Williams missed his junior year due to injury so just now getting updated tape on them

I get why people have a negative feeling towards football right now but recruiting is actually in place to be one of AU's highest rated classes ever. Obviously closing on Putnam is probably one of the biggest pieces yet & missing on all top OT targets again is frustrating but overall AU is in a really good spot. We will see how they finish

Still long ways to go with Pickens but does sound like AU answered some questions he had

Funny enough Gus calling plays was one of the major pitches & Pickens liked it. Here's what he said to 247
quote:

Gus probably will be calling plays. That's what I think … you know, he used to be the OC back in the day when he had Cam Newton at Auburn. He was the OC then. I’m pretty sure he'll have some crazy plays in the playbook for us.

Apparently Gus is also saying media way over spinning story of his job security. Whatever works man

Some AL/MS media day updates per KN

- 3* DT LeDarrius Cox will take OV to AU in January. Currently committed to TEN but has been projected to flip to AU for awhile

- 3* CB Nehemiah Pritchett undecided on if he signs next week but KN thinks he will (I'm guessing he loses his spot if he doesn't)

Funny thing is I believe that to be true

Once AD gave vote of confidence I believe he was staying. There might have been discussions on personnel but not much else about his job.

Does he know he needs to make something happen in 2019? Yes I am sure he does.

I don’t want to derail this off of recruiting but I agree. Some of the stuff coming out of 247 was just absolutely fiction and that was demonstrated quickly by the actions of the university and Gus. And say what you will about Gus and his personality for the fans and media but the guy is nails when he’s in home with a recruit’s family.

Also CBs coming in for Noah Cain to PSU tonight. Not a huge surprise. That actually helps AU with Richards

Key is getting one of Williams/Griffin. Pair either with Richards & that's a very solid RB class

Finally getting around to updating OP & top targets. Colby Wooden is now a 4* on composite while Fromm fell back to 3*. Ja'Varrius Johnson jumped from AU's lowest ranked commit to it's 2nd highest 3* ranked commit

Will update top targets post again after early signing day as there are some other guys to watch I don't have listed yet (Christopher Russell, Octavius Brothers)

This is the best group of 3*’s we’ve had IMO and there’s only 6. The ones we could add (DJ Williams) will just add to that. Half of them are 4* guys on 247

Ya I think this class has a lot of quality. Just to add where we struggle usually. Which actually our secondary class is crazy good for the first time in a while

Lots of guys with high motors. Some real coaches on the field in this group. I’d call them true sideline to sideline players with high football IQ
