I love that man.
Also, strong move going into ATL and doing that interview.

We need to just sign T-Will to a lifetime contract. Whoever is coach, T-Will must be on staff. He goes nowhere

207lbs?
Never forget, Dee Ford was 190 pounds when he enrolled at AU. Obviously he had a ridiculous work ethic.

I agree - really hope that he's getting groomed by Steele to be our next DC (and perhaps HC, who knows). Just love his attitude and character, and obvious passion fro AU. That man needs to be around our program.

That is one lanky individual. Seems like we've been targeting smaller linebackers as of late.

If you look at the guys pics, he could probably put on 50 lbs easy.

Not sure I would call that dude lanky

He’s pretty cut. Would look good if he was walking shirtless at the beach but he needs some functional muscle mass.

We’re talking about high school juniors. I was 16 when I finished my junior year. I think it’s okay that he’s not 250lbs quite yet
Didnt we just have a freshman DE/LB gain like 100lbs this offseason?

Probably not since putting on that amount of good weight in such a short period of time is basically impossible. 205 is thin but he can get up to 250. It will take a couple years of maturation though.
tDude is tiny.

"Didnt we just have a freshman DE/LB gain like 100lbs this offseason?"
Big Cat Bryant was listed at 6 foot 5 and 224 last year. He is now 253 lbs. Good weight too, the boy was toting around some guns at A day, and he had three sacks.
Now Im not certain that was his improvement or the fact our second string line seems to have perfected the two step drop fall on your arse technique.

With several DT departures expected, what is Auburn’s recruiting plan? (SECCountry)
quote:
I love the way this question is asked because it nails down just how secretive Auburn defensive line coach Rodney Garner’s recruiting efforts can be.
Do we have an idea…
It’s funny because, oftentimes, Garner works quietly to land prospects nobody would’ve expected. Sometimes that is because of the prospect’s high caliber. Other times it’s because it wasn’t known Auburn was recruiting heavily until late in the cycle. That happened with Derrick Brown, Big Kat Bryant, Marlon Davidson, Kayode Oladele, Tyrone Truesdell, Caleb Johnson, Alec Jackson and others.
After a 2018 class that included a couple of defensive tackle additions — Coynis Miller and Daquan Newkirk — there’s still desperation to add a few more because of the upcoming losses (or likely losses) of Brown, Dontavius Russell, Andrew Williams and Nick Coe. Among the top-ranked defensive tackles in the 2019 class, Auburn isn’t known to be seriously involved with anyone inside the top 10.
That could be a case of Garner silently working his magic, or it could be a sign he values a few other targets more favorably than the rankings.
Here are six names to keep an eye on:
Jaelin Humphries, Mountain View (Lawrenceville, Ga.)
Patrick Lucas, Wetumpka (Ala.)
Jalar Holley, Buford (Ga.)
Jaren Handy, Perry Central (New Augusta, Miss.)
Justin Eboigbe, Forest Park (Ga.)
Nathan Pickering, Seminary (Miss.)
The first three on that list — Humphries, Lucas and Holley — are listed as tackles.
Humphries is the highest-rated of the group. His recruitment has a chance to become a South Carolina-Auburn battle, but a few others such as Georgia, Florida, LSU, Tennessee and Florida State could get involved. Lucas and Holley are both much lower on the rankings totem pole, but they have drawn plenty of SEC interest and have visited Auburn this spring.
Handy, Eboigbe and Pickering are all ends who could transition to the tackle position. There are a few other players in this class who fit into that category. Garner has a history of using recruits brought in as defensive ends and giving them defensive tackle reps. I mention these three specifically because they’ve all mentioned to me that they talked to Garner about the possibility of playing tackle — and they’re all highly ranked.
Hopefully, that gives you somewhat of an idea about Auburn’s defensive tackle recruiting plans.

2 Auburn coaches visit key commit, target in Georgia (SECCountry)
quote:
2 Auburn coaches head to Georgia to see commit, target
In two days, two Auburn coaches made two separate stops to see two of the program’s most prized prospects.
Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and wide receivers coach Kodi Burns passed through Frederica Academy the last two days. That’s the St. Simons Island, Ga., home of cornerback commit Jaylin Simpson and athlete target Jashawn Sheffield. Steele was there for Simpson. Burns stopped by for Sheffield. Both are part of the Class of 2019.
The Steele stop shouldn’t come as a surprise. He adopted the coastal Georgia area after Herb Hand left. Steele has been by to see Simpson and Sheffield at every opportunity and has been the main communicator from the Auburn coaching staff.
That relationship with Steele helped land Simpson in the first place.
“I just feel like he’s more real than other coaches,” Simpson said previously.
Now Auburn is trying to get Sheffield to buy into what his teammate bought into.
There are differences, however.
Simpson was clearly being recruited as a defensive back. Sheffield has had a bigger unknown there, saying after his last trip that “only Gus” knew what the plan was for him, but he was an accepting participant in whatever that was. He could be a safety or a wide receiver. The fact Burns swung by Frederica Academy suggests the Tigers are still strongly considering the possibility of Sheffield as a wide receiver.
What’s interesting is that several programs have visited the Georgia high school this spring to check in with Simpson and Sheffield. Only once has Sheffield gone on social media to personally thank the coach for being there. That came after Burns’ stop at Frederica.
Sheffield was projected to commit to Auburn a few weeks ago. That hasn’t happened, but I still wouldn’t place it in concern category yet. The Tigers still feel strongly about their chances. Sheffield just wants to take a little more time to sort it all out before finalizing anything publicly.

Alabama offer doesn’t change George Pickens stance yet
Shortly after the Monday notebook published, Auburn wide receiver commit George Pickens announced an interesting twist in his recruitment.
He finally picked up the offer from Alabama.
It had been a long time coming. Pickens has been to Tuscaloosa regularly as a prospect from nearby Hoover, Ala. Throughout the spring, he established himself as one of the best in the country, and the Crimson Tide seriously took notice. Still, through all the offers from other SEC programs, it wasn’t until Monday that Alabama finally pulled the trigger.
The news came right after my note on Auburn fans not needing to worry about the solidness of Pickens’ commitment. Alabama typically causes a worrisome reaction from Auburn faithful. It’s understandable given the times the Tigers have been burned in the past by late Crimson Tide flips.
There’s no need to worry yet about this one. This was something Pickens knew would come eventually. It’s something Auburn anticipated would happen. Pickens and his mother are on board with the idea of limiting — or in Auburn’s preferable world, eliminating — visits to other schools and focusing on building the Tigers class.

Alabama might make stronger push for recent DB visitor
Alabama unexpectedly might be a problem for Auburn’s chances with cornerback Marcus Banks.
The Houston cornerback visited Auburn for the spring game with his mother. He enjoyed the trip so much that his first reaction involved wanting to set up an official visit with assistant coach Marcus Woodson as soon as possible. That sounded like a promising sign for the Tigers.
As it turns out, Auburn’s in-state rival might be the more likely of the two to land an official visit from Banks now, he told SEC Country. He expects to officially visit LSU on June 8 and Alabama on June 15.
“I’m feeling Alabama a lot right now,” Banks said. “They are high on my radar. Me taking that official visit, I’ll be able to see more things I didn’t get a chance to see on my junior day visit. I want to see the dorms, just small stuff like that. I want to get around to see more of the campus, too. I also just want to get more in-depth about the school when I’m there.”
He already officially visited Texas A&M. If he goes to LSU and Alabama, that leaves two open spots. Texas, Georgia and Auburn are battling it out for that distinction.

Auburn signee Coynis Miller inspired by father's advice (AL.com)
quote:
Auburn defensive lineman signee Coynis Miller smiled when thinking about one of the final visits to Auburn with his father, Coynis Sr.
"I finally got him to wear an Auburn hat and an Auburn jersey," he said.
It's powerful memory, especially considering Coynis Sr. grew up an Alabama fan and took some time to warm up to his youngest child choosing to play for the Tigers.
Coynis Miller Sr. passed away last month from a heart attack, an emotional blow for Coynis Jr. as he prepares to graduate from Birmingham's Jackson-Olin High School later this month and report to Auburn a few days later.
"He was my rock," Coynis Jr. said.
The 6-foot-2, 295-pounder finished 2017 with 21 tackles and four sacks, while also moonlighting as a wildcat quarterback in short-yardage situations. Then, he played in the Under Armour All-American Game and finished with six tackles.
He said he still hopes to join the defensive line rotation immediately, even as Marlon Davidson and Nick Coe excelling spring practice.
Miller said he's been working hard after receiving a workout plan from Auburn. He remains at 295 pounds, the weight he played at during the 2017 season at Jackson-Olin.
Miller said he's been running as early at 6 a.m., a move aimed at preparing him for the summer workouts when he reports to Auburn at the end of the month.
"It's been going good," he said. "I've been doing a lot of running to get ready, and I'm just working out every day."
Since his father's unexpected passing, Miller said he's had a renewed focus to "make him proud."
"I know how much he taught me," Miller said, "and I think about that every day."

Looking at McCollough's final four and what could push one to the top (Rivals)
quote:
Rivals 250 safety Jaylen McCollough cut his list to four late Tuesday night and he is set to play in the SEC.
Alabama, Auburn, South Carolina and Tennessee are the final schools on the four-star's list and he will return to each campus this summer.
McCollough will make a decision in the coming months.
IN HIS OWN WORDS: "I just talked with my coaches friends and family and those four schools are the best fit for me," said McCollough. "I knew when I was younger that I wanted to play SEC ball. All four of these schools are top notch SEC programs."
FAMILIARITY: "I’ve visited South Carolina and Tennessee twice, Auburn once and Alabama a handful of times."
TIDE AND TIGERS: "Auburn and Alabama have been at the top of the SEC for years and they produce NFL talent every year. I have great relationships with Alabama’s coaching staff, even though Derrick Ansley left, coach Scott won’t miss a beat at Alabama. Coach Steele at Auburn is a great defensive coach and talking with him, I can see myself thriving in their defensive scheme."
GAMECOCKS: "South Carolina is on the verge of being a contender for a SEC title and also has a great defensive coaching staff."
VOLS: "I’m comfortable with the coaching staff at Tennessee and the direction they have the program headed in."
NEXT: "I will be taking visits to all these schools and camp at all of the schools this summer to try and get a better feel for my commitment in the fall. It is going to be a hard decision. I can see myself at each of these schools."
RIVALS REACTION: McCollough likely has each staff feeling they have a real chance to land him when that time comes. Some feel he has a favorite or maybe a top two, but he really seems to be torn. The visits this summer will be key in his decision. That time on the field working with position coaches and being around other commits and players on that campus could push one team over the top. All we know now is, McCollough is going to live out his dream — he will play in the SEC.
