maybe unstoppable in 2014 is a stretch but it was very good and was not our issue at all. We lost a lot that year but still managed to put up over 600 yards on the best defense we faced

I think there are a lot of parallels between 2014 offense & 2017 honestly. Both had some huge moments against big time defenses. Both also put out some duds. Difference is 2017 was backed by a great defense

If you put the 2014 offense on last years defense, there is no way we lose to LSU, Clemson or UCF. I cant say about the UGA SEC Championship game but the others, we win

As for QB debate, obviously Cam Newton is the gold standard. A freak athlete who is also an outstanding passer. Being able to run the ball is an obvious benefit at QB spot that I would love to have but finding true dual threat QBs isn't as easy as people think. We've seen it already in recruiting guys like Kiehl Frazier & Woody Barrett. Go get best talent you can sign at QB. If the choice comes down to 2 guys & one can also run then take that one but I don't think should limit recruiting to just dual threat guys

Agree though that Gus has to be able to establish the run. Doesn't need a running QB to do that. Does need a strong OL tho which is why we need to sign some damn offensive tackles

Not sure on Clemson but agree on the other 2

2014 offense was better than 2017. Won't argue different. 2017 offense was pretty damn good tho when KJ was healthy

My point with the offense we need with Gus is that he needs a very simple offense. Its what he does good. Runs a few plays with some options off of it. When you give him the keys to what we are doing now, you will get shite like 60 yard bombs on every pass play and whirlybirds. Just let him run the ball with the QB and two backs and stick to that. ITs what he is good at.

No matter if that QB is a speed guy or a power guy. And if he sticks to that, we can recruit QBs that will fit. Not one per year but two or so and we will eventually find what we need. I think Malik Willis could do it if he had the guys around him but he will probably never get the chance.

Come on man. We almost won with 11 sacks. No way Nick Marshall would have been sacked 11 times

I for one am excited about Stidham, Nix, and the new pro style guy we offered. It wasn't long ago we were offering guys like Torrance Gibson and qb that was a high school safety from Florence.

etting too stoked about any Auburn player can cause aneurysms.
Sounds like the opposite of Randy-isms.

Couldn't pass it up.

Unfortunately those types of duals who can run like crazy & pass at a 60+ % clip in college don't come around too often.

It's hard to win any game no matter the talent level on the team when the HC changes the entire offensive game plan the day before the game like Gus did versus Clemson. We still would have lost.

I mean you people say this but our history with Gus shows otherwise.

Its almost comical to watch some of these guys squirm. It is one of the most obvious things ever and some are still waiting for us to be dominant with a pro style QB

Would you imagine how good the 2010, 2013 and 2014 teams would have been if they would have had even a decent defense like we have now

What did you think think about the Eagles Super Bowl offense? Foles can’t run but he made a fool out of the Patriots with the RPO and shortpasses. It seems that Gus wants to get there, but can’t get there.

To be honest, I didnt watch it and dont pay a lot of attention to the NFL.

But you just dont mess with what works. And you do what you are good at. Gus is good at offense with a running QB. Everybody sees it. Just a few key pieces and the offense works. It is also easier to develop than what we are doing now.

His offense has definitely been more successful with a DT quarterback. He’s tried pretty hard to land some elite DT quarterbacks that could fit his offense to a T. He went after Fields and Lowell Narcisse and almost landed one of those. He’s also went after some shitty QBs like JF3. The Florence QB that autgr is talking about, Kendrick Doss, I don’t know if he had an offer but he’s another example of reaching for a DT QB. I hate to say it, but nothing about your guy, Malik, screams potential to me either. He’s got the speed but doesn’t have the feet or the arm of NM. The guy to watch is Gatewood. As a powerful QB, he’s got the moves like Jagger and he can probably do well in a simplified offense.
