With Pettway officially out, I’d be more than happy to see Joiner at AU

That's a fair point of view if you're looking at it that way I supposed. For big schools I think it's great, but if you're an under the radar 2 or 3 star player who needs more time to be evaluated by bigger schools you don't get it anymore. It was mostly the smaller schools forcing people to commit or pull their offers.

Give it a cycle or two and that will balance itself out.

Bo Nix says he will be committing soon. Wants to do it before his senior season. Has a top 3 of AU, CLEM & OHST. Mentioned that Gus getting an extension was big because now he feels confident Malzahn will stick around. KN says he continues to hear Nix is all AU & in fact some other college coaches think the same as well
Obviously getting Nix on board early would be big. Could be a centerpiece of this class. Clemson makes me nervous because he does seem to like it there but I still think he ends up at AU

Felton is not the hire. AU announces Marcus Woodson is joining the staff. DB coach at Memphis. Has a lot of connections to Mississippi I believe

Tho I was hoping he would bail on O for the LSU melt

I’d be really surprised if Nix went anywhere other than Auburn. Again, we were around the kid for a couple of years before they moved to Scotsboro. Never saw him without an Auburn hat on.

I will be nervous until he commits but I think AU lands him. If Clemson wasn't bringing in Lawrence this year then I might be a bit more nervous but considering Nix is more than likely gonna have a chance to win starting job as a freshman at AU, I think he comes to Auburn barring a meltdown next season

You mean the recruiting area we have completely abandoned? He would be better off being connected in Colorado than Mississippi of he recruits for Auburn (not counting jucos.)

Well maybe this is a sign that AU is planning on recruiting Mississippi harder in the future. FWIW there hasn't been much talent coming out of there in recent season but in 2019 it's loaded

5-star offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere considering Auburn for official visit (SECCountry)
Please visit, please visit, please visit

Tigers remain in hunt with other major programs for Florida player
Nicholas Petit-Frere‘s recruitment is shaping up to be one of the most fascinating to follow down the stretch.
The 5-star offensive tackle from Berkeley Prep in Tampa, Fla., will be courted by every major program in the country. Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Michigan and Notre Dame are among the 30 offers Petit-Frere has received. To give an idea of Petit-Frere’s prioritization, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh got NCAA approval to hold one of the Wolverines’ bowl practices at Berkeley Prep so Petit-Frere could watch.
For now, however, Petit-Frere isn’t naming names regarding his programs of choice and any potential visits.
“I’m getting closer to figuring out what those schools are going to be. I’ll figure it out soon, but right now I don’t know yet,” Petit-Frere said at the Under Armour All-America Game. “Soon. I’m not sure when. I’ve still got some time to figure it out.”
Every program in the country will fight for one of Petit-Frere’s five official visits.
Auburn will be among them, and Petit-Frere told SEC Country the Tigers have a legitimate chance to be one. So far, Petit-Frere has only visited Auburn one time. That came two summers ago before he entered his junior season.
“It was a nice campus. It was a very college feel. Everything was together and close. I enjoyed the visit. It looked nice,” Petit-Frere said. “The campus looked really beautiful.”
Despite the limited visits, he has stayed in regular communication with Auburn offensive line coach Herb Hand and running backs coach Tim Horton. They’ve stayed consistent with their message the last two years. They always knew it would be a recruitment that would last until the final month, so there wasn’t any pressure to get him on campus to make visits regularly.
But now, it’s about to time for Petit-Frere to make choices for his official visits.
Hand has made his priority clear.
“He’s telling me about the program of Auburn, how he feels about the team, how he feels about them football-wise and academically as well,” Petit-Frere said. “It’s a great program. It’s another one of the storied programs in college football. It’s great football. They have a good academic process as well. It’s a good program overall.”

Auburn remains a possible official visit destination for 5-star cornerback Tyson Campbell (SECCountry)
Sounds like Porter is starting to do work. Not sure if it will result in any commits this cycle but good to hear his name popping up among all these top 100 players. Hopefully starts earlier in 2019 & results in landing some bigger first (one John Emery please)
quote:
SAN ANTONIO — When Tyson Campbell lists the programs heavily in the mix for him, he names five schools right off the bat.
“Miami, Georgia, Bama, Clemson, Ohio State,” the 5-star cornerback said Wednesday.
Those have been the programs linked to his recruitment since the beginning.
Campbell, the No. 3 corner in the nation, is from American Heritage in South Florida. That proximity to home has made Miami the perceived leader recently. But a few SEC programs — Georgia and Alabama — are the only two official visits Campbell has set up so far. He’ll go to Athens on Jan. 12 and Tuscaloosa on Jan. 19.
As for the other three official visits, Miami, Clemson and Ohio State could received those last three. When asked about those three programs receiving officials, however, Campbell brought up two other lesser-mentioned programs as potential official visit destinations for him.
Auburn is one of them.
“I don’t know if I can fit five in. But I don’t know if it’d be one of those [other three] because I’m talking to other schools like Auburn and Tennessee,” Campbell told SEC Country.
Campbell doesn’t have the strongest familiarity with Auburn, but he’s giving the Tigers time to change that.
He’s only been to the Plains one time, and that was during his sophomore season. Campbell admitted, for the Tigers to receive an official visit, he will have to stay in contact more with the coaches in short order.
Campbell has been hearing from Auburn tight ends coach Larry Porter and defensive backs coach Greg Brown more recently. In fact, he connected with Porter on Tuesday to talk about how things have been going at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
“Coach Porter and coach Brown. It’s been the same [message] as other schools. They really want me,” Campbell said. “To give them an official? More communication. I talked with coach Porter yesterday. He was just asking me how I’m doing down here. I know him pretty well.”
Sounds like Porter is starting to do work. Not sure if it will result in any commits this cycle but good to hear his name popping up among all these top 100 players. Hopefully starts earlier in 2019 & results in landing some bigger first (one John Emery please)

Auburn recruiting question of the day: Does Kerryon Johnson’s departure change recruiting strategy? (SECCountry)
Pretty sure both visit next weekend so if we are taking a 3rd back chances are good one of those guys will be on board after that weekend
quote:
The news of Kerryon Johnson’s departure for the NFL was a major blow to Auburn’s running back room.
It’s possible the Tigers enter the 2018 season (excluding this recruiting class, for now) with Kam Martin, Devan Barrett, Malik Miller and JaTarvious Whitlow.
Throw in Asa Martin from the 2018 class and there are a handful of athletes with big-play ability who haven’t yet proven themselves as feature backs. Also, don’t forget about Shaun Shivers, who at 5-foot-6 and 160 pounds isn’t expected to be a 30-carries-per-game running back, but he offers a unique skill set that Auburn coaches will try to tap into as early in his career as possible.
Despite those two signees, it seems like the chances of Auburn taking a third running back in the 2018 class is greater than ever.
For the last few weeks, even before Johnson’s NFL announcement, the Tigers were searching for other running back options. You can check out recent SEC Country updates on Harold Joiner and Kavosiey Smoke. Joiner will take an official visit to Auburn after a communication mishap with LSU. Smoke hasn’t been offered, but he’s also officially visiting in January.
I fully expect Auburn to take a third running back. This is a conversation still ongoing within the Tigers coaching staff, but Johnson’s departure — and the potential of Kamryn Pettway leaving — makes adding another back a necessity, unless there’s a big 2019 target Auburn doesn’t want to scare away with a three-back class.
With the two aforementioned prospects, however, there are still key recruiting developments to take place. Joiner has flirted with the possibility of committing during the U.S. All-American Bowl. But for now, my sources have told me Auburn wants him to come to campus on his official visit before they entertain the possibility of a commitment. As for Smoke, that one comes down to whether Auburn offers.
It’s quite possible that this is a Joiner-Smoke battle for the final running back spot, and the Tigers are trying to figure out which prospect fits better.
Pretty sure both visit next weekend so if we are taking a 3rd back chances are good one of those guys will be on board after that weekend

Elite linebacker target JJ Peterson eliminates Auburn, turns attention to Tennessee (SECCountry)
Highly doubt we told him we don't want him but either way he was apparently going wherever Jeremy Pruitt went
quote:
SAN ANTONIO — It’s time to finally eliminate Auburn from contention for one linebacker target.
JJ Peterson has been one of the Tigers’ top linebacker options for a while. His relationship with Auburn linebackers coach Travis Williams kept the Tigers in it when it looked like Alabama would be an impossible team to beat. Now it’s Tennessee that has crept into the lead.
As for Auburn, the communication has tapered off as the Tigers have hauled in more linebackers.
“I talk with him sometimes, off and on. We don’t really talk a ton. We’ve got a good relationship still though,” Peterson told SEC Country. “It just faded. They got other recruits, other linebackers, and it just faded.”
Auburn has four prospects committed who could fit in at linebacker. Michael Harris and Zakoby McClain are the clear-cut linebackers of the group. Richard Jibunor is listed as a linebacker, but Auburn sees him fitting in as a Buck pass-rusher in its defense. Josh Marsh is also called a linebacker for now, but he could end up at safety.
When McClain committed, it caught Peterson’s interest. The two have a close relationship thanks to their south Georgia connection. McClain’s decision made Peterson think harder about Auburn momentarily, but as he looked at the linebacker depth, it didn’t look like a realistic fit.
“With Zakoby, that was one where I was like, ‘Oh, I’m about to float there.’ I didn’t know he didn’t tell me nothing, but when he did, I was interested,” Peterson said. “But they told me they already has some committed. It’s no hard feelings, but it’s the way I gotta go though.”
My sources have told me Auburn still wants Peterson. Any conversations that suggest there aren’t linebacker spots available for him have been a miscommunication. With that said, contact has been minimized recently, especially since the additions of McClain and Jibunor. The Tigers will still recruit Alabama linebacker commit Quay Walker heavily leading up to National Signing Day, so available linebacker spots are the concern.
In Peterson’s case, most of it has to do with his relationship with new Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt who was his lead recruiter at Alabama. His primary recruiter at Georgia was linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer who recently took that Tennessee defensive coordinator job under Pruitt.
Combine that with his high school friendship with Tennessee players Shawn Shamburger and Ja’Quain Blakely, and it’s starting to look like a longtime Alabama lean will end up at Tennessee.
“My first official I’m going to the Vols on Jan. 12,” he said. “If I find a hat, it’s over.”
Highly doubt we told him we don't want him but either way he was apparently going wherever Jeremy Pruitt went

U.S. Army All-American Bowl Day 3 notebook: Elite cornerback considers official visit to Auburn, and more (SECCountry)
quote:
SAN ANTONIO — Day 3 of U.S. Army All-American Bowl didn’t include a practice. Instead, the top high school prospects took most of Wednesday off to go to Six Flags. There was a media session, however, that resulted in a few recruiting updates.
Here are the big Auburn takeaways from Wednesday:

1. An elite cornerback could (somewhat surprisingly) take an official visit to Auburn
During the Wednesday morning media session, I interviewed 5-star cornerback Tyson Campbell, serving as a de facto pool reporter for some of my colleagues who cover Georgia, Alabama, Clemson and Miami. Those are the programs most closely connected to Campbell, and those are the schools Campbell mentioned first when asking general questions about his recruitment.
Miami and Georgia might be the favorites at this point.
I wasn’t planning on asking Campbell any Auburn-related questions because, quite frankly, I didn’t think there was any communication going on between the two sides. As it turns out, Campbell was in touch with Auburn tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Larry Porter as recently as Tuesday.
That communication is in the early stages, and the Tigers are going to have trouble becoming a real factor in this one. With that said, an unsolicited Campbell disclosed he is considering using one of his five official visits to Auburn. He said he’ll need a little more contact with the staff before he takes it, however.

2. It looks like the ship has sailed for JJ Peterson and Auburn
Auburn linebackers coach Travis Williams’ relationship with JJ Peterson has left the Tigers always feeling like the No. 2 team for the 4-star linebacker, behind only in-state rival Alabama.
Tennessee is the new team to beat after Tide defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt was named Vols coach.
It doesn’t seem likely Peterson will consider Auburn in January. His exact words when asked if the Tigers still had a chance: “No, not really.” The main reason for that is limited conversation with Williams in recent weeks. On top of that, Peterson has concerns about how much depth the Tigers already have at linebacker, both on the current roster and in the 2018 class.
My Crystal Ball pick has been to Tennessee since the Pruitt change, and my confidence in that has grown this week.
