Breaking down the Auburn-Ohio State decision for 4-star CB Christian Tutt (SECCountry)

4-star cornerback preps for Auburn-Ohio State decision
In an unlikely spin, Auburn is on commit watch Tuesday.
Christian Tutt will make his decision between Auburn and Ohio State after taking an official visit to the Plains over the weekend. Tutt hasn’t been a primary recruiting figure for the Tigers — at least publicly — until recently. He always seemed to prioritize the likes of Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia and Nebraska.
But with some of those schools looking elsewhere at cornerback, it allowed Auburn to creep in late in the game.
Here are all the things we know as Tutt prepares to make his decision at 3 p.m. ET for his U.S. Army All-American Game jersey ceremony in Thomson, Ga.
- Tutt is a take for Auburn.
- He’s also a take for Ohio State and Nebraska, though Tutt already eliminated the Cornhuskers.
- Auburn has a need at cornerback, which became very clear to Tutt over the course of the official visit.
- Even when Auburn appeared to be out of it, defensive backs coach Greg Brown was in regular communication with Tutt and visited his high school in the spring. That consistency made an impression on Tutt.
- Tutt wanted to make his commitment decision for his U.S. Army All-American Game jersey ceremony all along, but coming into his official visit last weekend, he thought it was possible he would have to delay his decision. He isn’t delaying it, if that gives you an indication where he’s leaning.
I fully expect the 4-star prospect, the No. 25 cornerback in the 2018 class, to choose the Tigers over the Buckeyes on Tuesday. If my hunches are correct, that’ll boost Auburn up five spots to the No. 14 class in the team rankings, which will put the Tigers in a realistic shot to crack the top 10 once again.
SEC Country will be in attendance, so follow the Auburn page on Facebook because I’ll post a live video feed during the ceremony. There will be plenty of post-commitment content on the site, as well.

Top 2019 tight end expresses love for Auburn
My Dawgnation colleague Jeff Sentell caught up with a key 2019 prospect who visited for the Auburn-Georgia game.
Ryland Goede is one of the top tight ends, if not the best tight end in the 2019 class. He has always considered Auburn and Georgia to be the two teams to beat in his recruitment, with a few others lingering around. Georgia has been spun as the team to beat for quite some time, and one game isn’t going to change his impression of either school, as Sentell articulated in his article.
With that said, Goede’s impression of Auburn has always been top-notch. Here’s what he told Sentell about how he perceives Auburn and its coaching staff.
“Auburn kind of feels like home for me,” Goede told Sentell. “That campus fits me. That coaching staff and the personalities of that staff just fit me. I was at camp this summer, and they had a cookout at the camp. I just sat down with the coaches and talked for hours after that camp. It was me and all the coaches and their families. We just sat down and talked. It was fun to get to know them better.”
That sounds like a guy who really loves the Plains. He has two really close friends — Dominick Blaylock and J.D. Bertrand — who already committed to Georgia in the Class of 2019, which is probably why he claims the Bulldogs have the lead by a slim margin over Auburn and Michigan.
Still, Goede expects to be back for the Iron Bowl, and that’s something to watch. He hopes to have an offseason decision.
Dude's childhood friends are both committed to UGA & he's a top rated TE. Don't see him coming here unless one of those dudes decommits or TE all of a sudden becomes a big time target in our offense

One-time Auburn target de-commits from Georgia
This one could look like timing in the public eye, but it was trending this way for a while.
Caleb Tannor de-committed from Georgia on Monday night, which caught the attention of a lot of people in the Auburn fan base for good reason. Tannor is a 4-star outside linebacker/defensive end from Lithonia, Ga. He’s a tall, athletic guy who has a lot of upside as a pass rusher.
But this wasn’t a decision that happened overnight, or just because Georgia lost to Auburn. Tannor found himself as the odd-man out in a Georgia pass-rusher class that is loading up. The Bulldogs already have commitments from Adam Anderson and Azeez Ojulari (who visited Auburn last Saturday). They’re also in the game for KJ Henry and Channing Tindall who could fill similar roles.
With only six or so spots remaining in Georgia’s class, the number crunch has already started and pass-rusher was a good place to start.
So why was Tannor the odd-man out?
It doesn’t have to do with talent. Tannor hasn’t been playing football for that long, but he’s a special athlete who, with a few years of grooming, has a chance to be an all-SEC-caliber pass-rusher. The bigger concern with Tannor are a few academic things that still have a chance to be worked out with a strong final semester.
Remember this: When Tannor made his initial choice, it was down to Auburn and Georgia. He chose Georgia, but he visited the Plains the day before he made his decision, and the Tigers would’ve loved to accept his commitment. The academic side of things could create a few hiccups, but I still expect Auburn to become a major player for Tannor once again.
If there's a chance at all he can qualify, scoop him up. Dude is gonna be a monster at next level if he can get the grades & you know he's gonna wanna kick UGA's arse

Auburn quarterback target commits to another schools
An Auburn quarterback target committed to another program Monday.
A.J. Curry, the under-the-radar guy Auburn has identified recently, decided to announce his commitment to Western Carolina. Curry held offers from programs like Western Carolina, Florida Atlantic, South Alabama and others, but Auburn, Ole Miss and Mississippi State began to communicate regularly with him. That communication included two game visits to Auburn.
Part of Curry’s decision was based around Auburn’s attempt to land other higher-ranked quarterbacks in the 2018 class such as Jarren Williams and Emory Jones. Curry wanted to secure his spot in the class of a program who already offered. If other opportunities end up arising, he’ll go from there.
“The plan was, if I didn’t get offered this weekend [at the Auburn game], then it was time to work out my decision the next day. I told my family it’s better to attack the opportunity I already have,” Curry said. “I’m still open to all schools.”
In other words, we will double back around on Curry if the Tigers miss on Williams and Jones to see what Auburn’s next plan is at the quarterback position. For now, keep your sights set on the two aforementioned 4-star quarterbacks.
Respect how kid is handling process. Make sure you got a free ride somewhere to play football & if someone else better comes calling later then jump on that

KN sounds very confident now that Tutt will pick AU here in a bit. Crazy we went from looking at random low ranked 3*s to now possibly landing a top 250 player

Look at some of the WR GA Tech has produced the last ten years, so for some reason logic isn't always the strongest recruiting tool

There's nothing logical about recruiting on that I am well aware. I was just venting about UGA having the 2 top WRs committed for 2019

4* CB Christian Tutt commits to AU!!!!

THOMSON, Ga., — A late surge by Auburn has paid off in a big way.
The Tigers on Tuesday landed a commitment from 4-star cornerback Christian Tutt of Thomson High, who chose the Tigers over Ohio State. As recently as a month ago, Auburn wasn’t thought to even be a factor.
The 5-feet-10.5, 193-pound Tutt is the No. 25 corner and No. 221 overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite. He’s also a U.S. Army All-American.
"It was just the perfect fit," Tutt told AuburnUndercover.com.
For the Tigers, Tutt is commitment No. 15. With his pledge, Auburn jumped from 19th to No. 14 in the 247Sports recruiting team rankings. At one point during the summer, the Tigers weren’t even in the top 50.
For the past several months, most thought Tutt was Nebraska bound. But a rough season for the Cornhuskers opened the door for the Tigers.
After working hard to get Tutt on campus, he officially visited last weekend. Tutt arrived in Auburn late Friday night after his team's playoff game in Atlanta and stayed through Sunday. Not only did he witness Auburn’s 40-17 drubbing of unbeaten Georgia at Jordan-Hare Stadium, but he got extensive tours of the campus and met at length with the coaching staff.
Tutt's father was among those who joined him on the visit.
Auburn linebackers coach Travis Williams is Tutt’s area recruiter, but secondary coach Greg Brown also was extremely vital to this recruitment. Tutt told AuburnUndercover.com last week he was impressed by Brown’s track record, which includes time in the NFL.
Tutt is Auburn’s first cornerback commit for the 2018 class. The Tigers could add one to two more.
Tutt graduates in December and will enroll at Auburn in January.

BREAKING: 4-star cornerback commits to Auburn over Ohio State, Nebraska (SECCountry)
Good that he will be an early enrollee
quote:
THOMSON, Ga. — Just two days after his official visit ended, Christian Tutt joined Auburn’s 2018 class.
The 4-star cornerback took an uncommon recruiting road to choose Auburn over Ohio State, Nebraska and others, but in the end, his experience on the Plains over the weekend proved to Tutt where he needed to be. Tutt’s commitment gives Auburn its 15th commitment in the 2018 class, which moves the Tigers up to No. 14 nationally in the team rankings.
Tutt attributes Auburn’s growing need at cornerback — plus proximity to home — as the primary reasons for his decision.
“It’s about what school fits me,” Tutt said. “The situation they’re in right now with guys trying to go to the league with some guys that don’t fully play corner and can fit in at safety, it’s a need right now. Without any corners in this class right now, they need me to come in as a mid-year and get into the system, get in the weight room, get bigger.”
Tutt’s recruitment, for the longest time, didn’t include Auburn.
The 6-foot, 180-pound cornerback narrowed it down to Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and Nebraska during the spring. Tutt said he was close to a decision then, but many of those schools had to go back to the recruiting board to see where Tutt fit in priority-wise.
All the while, Auburn didn’t waver.
Kevin Steele and Greg Brown made sure to make their interest in Tutt known throughout the process, as the Tigers tried to figure out its own cornerback board. Tutt kept a close eye on Auburn and remained conscious of the Tigers’ prioritization despite having Nebraska and Ohio State as the public leaders.
“Auburn hasn’t stopped recruiting me hard since, even when I was going other places, I really wasn’t coming here, Auburn was still in it,” Tutt said. “Coach Brown came down in the spring and watched me practice and filmed me some. He’s a great guy. Of course he coached in the league and he knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s a great father figure and that’s exactly what I need coming to school.”
Tutt’s decision fills a major need for the Tigers.
Carlton Davis appears to be on the fast track to the NFL. Javaris Davis and Jamel Dean will soon be on the back end of their careers, so Auburn has a major hole at cornerback in the near future. Until now, the Tigers didn’t have any players committed in the 2018 class at cornerback.
Tutt changes that. But that depth-chart availability is a key reason for Tutt’s ultimate decision.
“That’s very important to me. Me coming from where I’m from, I’m trying to get on the field early. I’m trying to feed my family. I don’t want my mom to work anymore,” Tutt said. “I’m not that far from home, I’m three hours away from home and my parents can come up and see me play. That need meant a lot to me. It was an eye-opener for me.”
Good that he will be an early enrollee

Yeah I was going to be really shocked if Tutt didn't pick us, it seemed pretty obvious for the past couple weeks. Now here's to hoping we can get another CB from the same region ;)
