5 defensive prospects in Class of 2019 who Auburn is in best position to land (SECCountry)
quote:
Auburn’s 2018 class has some stout names on defense. The Tigers hope for a similar result in the 2019 cycle.
It’s somewhat still in too-early range for 2019 projections, but let’s look at who Auburn is in the game for. Check out SEC Country’s thoughts on the five players most likely to join Auburn’s defense in the 2019 cycle.

3-star CB Jalen Alexander, Grayson (Ga.)
Jalen Alexander has been the most regular visitor to Auburn this season. That includes 2018 recruits. That includes commits. He’s been on the Plains for three of the four homes games this season, and that should give you an indication of how he feels.
If that’s not enough, take Alexander’s words into account.
“I could say Auburn is the leader right now, but I am still exploring my options,” Alexander said. “I like how the coaches really treat their players like family. I like how they push them real hard.”
Alexander is probably the most likely person of all the prospects — offense or defense — to join the Tigers class. He’ll keep coming back to Auburn, and eventually, I expect him to commit.
He’s ranked the No. 47 cornerback in the class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Really like this kid but worried he's gonna be AJ Terrell 2.0. Loves AU early, Clemson then swoops in & steals him

quote:
4-star ILB Ja’Len Sims, Fultondale (Ala.)
Ja’Len Sims is one of the few 2019 prospects that I’ve already logged a Crystal Ball prediction for. I made that pick to Auburn in June shortly after Sims camped with the Tigers.
Sims has been on the Tigers’ radar for a while. When he camped over the summer, he received a lot of special attention from Travis Williams and Kevin Steele. That was the first sign the Tigers were probably the team to beat.
He’s also been at Auburn already in the 2017 season.
Sims attended the Auburn-Ole Miss game and spent some extra time with Auburn coaches. So far, Auburn is his only primary offer, so it’s easy to pick the Tigers. But even when others jump on board — and they inevitably will — I expect Auburn to be tough to top.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker is ranked No. 8 nationally at his position.
Really good player. Credit to T-WILL being on this kid early

4-star ATH Jammie Robinson, Crisp County (Ga.)
Auburn already has landed one 4-star prospect out of Crisp County in Markaviest Bryant. The Tigers hope to add a second later this year by flipping 4-star linebacker Quay Walker from Alabama.
If that happens, it’s quite possible for the third time to also be the charm.
Jammie Robinson is one of the most impressive athletes in the 2019 recruiting class. He’s ranked the No. 334 player in the country, but when rankings are reshuffled, he’s someone that could see a nice rise up the charts.
In the past, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Clemson and Florida State have seemed like more likely landing spots. But that hasn’t stopped Robinson from being a regular visitor on the Plains. Robinson has a strong relationship with multiple members of the Auburn coaching staff.
But if Auburn pulls off the Walker flip, that would put two of Robinson’s closest high school friends on the Plains. With that, I think he’d join them.
South Carolina might be the hardest to beat on this one

quote:
4-star S Keontra Smith, Chaminade-Madonna (Fla.)
This might seem like a weird addition considering Keontra Smith is already committed to Kentucky. That decision kind of came out of nowhere when he committed in June. It’s possible Smith rides with his Big Blue decision, but I expect a player of his caliber to end up being recruited by all the top programs across the Southeast.
Auburn will be one of them.
The reason why I like the Tigers’ chances: Shaun Shivers.
Shivers is a running back commit in the 2018 class, but he’s high school teammates with Smith, who will be a major 2019 target. Shivers is one of the best recruiters among players in his own class. I can only imagine how persuasive he’d be with Smith.
Some of this is dependent on Auburn’s push for Smith, but the Tigers already have offered.
Had AU #1 when McGriff was here

quote:
4-star CB KJ Wallace, Lovett School (Ga.)
KJ Wallace is familiar with Auburn.
He’s visited for games. He’s visited for the school’s junior day in March.
With that said, Auburn won’t be the only team pushing. Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Wisconsin and South Carolina already have offered, but Auburn got out ahead on this one and made Wallace a priority.
It’ll be interesting to see what kind of push the Alabamas, Georgias and Florida States of the world make, but Auburn already finds itself in a safe position with Wallace.

Starting to wonder how much Kirby was behind the recruiting prowess at Bama. Tide just lost out on another top DL recruit, this time to A&M. Meanwhile UGA is taking who they want
Obviously Saban can recruit & Bama will have another top 5 class but wondering how big a role Smart played in those consecutive top classes

I didn't realize Kirby's huge role in recruiting was overlooked....

Not overlooked but maybe under appreciated. I knew he was a beast but I didn't realize he was THIS big of an apparent beast and I don't think most others did as well. It might not just be a Smart thing tho as Bama lost some big time recruiters off that staff last year in guys like Napier & Cristobal
It could all prove moot if Bama finishes strong but it's interesting to see the amount of misses so far. Zamir White, Asa Martin, Coynis Miller, Bobby Brown, Adam Anderson and some others. Not that they don't ever get beat out for guys but definitely feels like they are missing more than usual at this point. Obviously expect them to still sign an elite class just an interesting storyline developing

Why are we using all this time visiting guys that are already committed? Monday and maybe Martin I guess I get but the rest seem pretty solid.

We've already visited a number of our top uncommitted prospects. Off top of my head: Trey Hill, Justyn Ross, Seth Williams, Richard Jibunor & Channing Tindall. Probably missed some others
Looks like we are visiting the remaining of our top uncommitted guys in Quay Walker, Badara Traore, Anthony Schwartz & Michael Parker then using the rest of the coaches to check in on commits

Auburn on minds of 3 in-state talents who recently de-committed from Missouri (SECCountry)
Pretty sure all 3 would commit in heartbeat if we let em
quote:
Three recent Mizzou de-commits for Auburn to watch
Missouri struck gold this summer with a trio of commitments from Montgomery, Ala.
Lanier High quarterback James Foster spearheaded that Tigers class in April when the 4-star prospect chose Missouri, one of the only schools recruiting him exclusively at quarterback. His commitment led to increased interest from multiple other recruits in the Montgomery area, namely Lanier High linebacker La’Dedric Jackson and Park Crossing athlete Cam Taylor, both of whom committed to Missouri in July.
Now I know what you’re thinking. This is an Auburn recruiting notebook. Why in the world are we talking about Missouri recruiting?
Well, all three names — Foster, Jackson and Taylor — are need-to-know prospects for Auburn going forward. Jackson de-committed from Missouri earlier in October. Taylor and Foster have followed suit in back-to-back days, which has been a crippling reality for the Missouri recruiting class, but welcome news for many other programs across the Southeast, especially Auburn.
When each of those three prospects committed, Auburn was showing interest, but the Tigers weren’t making serious pushes for any of them. Foster had received an Auburn offer, but it was more as a general athlete than a quarterback. Taylor and Jackson didn’t yet have offers and still don’t. Missouri prioritized them, which led to those decisions at the time.
But all three have had standout senior seasons.
Foster has been one of the most impressive overall players in the state of Alabama, especially at quarterback. LSU offered him earlier this week, which helped inspire the de-commitment. Auburn will continue to evaluate Foster as the Tigers search for their second quarterback in the class.
Foster spoke with SEC Country’s LSU reporter Sam Spiegelman prior to the de-commitment, which hinted at what was to come. LSU appears to be the front-runner immediately after the de-commitment, but Foster also referred to his feeling about Auburn as “very interested.” Communication has picked up in recent weeks, so much of it will depend on how those conversations and evaluations go.
Keep in mind that Auburn was a school Foster has visited regularly dating to 2015, when his recruitment first kicked off. The Tigers will be in this one until the end.
As for Taylor and Jackson, the thing to watch for here is the offers. Taylor and Jackson have articulated in the past their trust and belief that an Auburn offer would eventually come. In both cases, it might depend on how the rest of the class shakes out. Jackson is likely a backup option — albeit a very good one — to the hopes of flipping Quay Walker from Alabama. In Taylor’s case, it’s a matter of position fit.
Pretty sure all 3 would commit in heartbeat if we let em

Auburn coaches on the recruiting trail
Auburn coaches will hit the road in full force. So far, SEC Country has been able to confirm four coaches who plan to be out on the trail for Friday night games.
Gus Malzahn and Chip Lindsey: The head coach and the offensive coordinator plan to be in Gainesville, Fla., to watch their prized quarterback commit Joey Gatewood. It’ll be the first opportunity for both coaches to view Gatewood in a live game atmosphere. What they see will likely be a determining factor in how they approach quarterback in the rest of the class.
Kodi Burns: The wide receivers coach expects to go see Anthony Schwartz play Friday. Schwartz was at Auburn for the most recent home game against Ole Miss. It’s down to Auburn and Florida (or Houston for track purposes).
Travis Williams: The linebackers coach will watch Alabama commit Quay Walker.
