8. Asa Martin, RB

Auburn needs another running back in the class and Martin appears to be the top target. He's down to Auburn, Alabama and Florida ... but will visit Clemson soon. If Clemson offers, that could add a new dimension to his recruitment. Martin is supposed to announce a commitment Aug. 24. As much as Auburn likes him, his spot might not be around forever -- especially with former Tide commit Dameon Pierce sitting out there.

How bout Clemson takes Martin, we take Pierce and Bama gets left at the alter for once. Would be nice

7. Jamien Sherwood, S

Sherwood, Quindarious Monday and Joseph Foucha have emerged as Auburn's top safety targets. Monday, a one-time Auburn lean, now favors Clemson but will visit Auburn again soon. Foucha, who's in Louisiana, recently nabbed an LSU offer and that has shaken up his recruitment. As for Sherwood, the talented Floridian is likely to make his third trip to Auburn this year in late July. The Tigers are trending up.

6. Michael Harris, LB

After once favoring Ohio State, Harris is closing in on a decision and Auburn has as good a shot as anyone to land the 4-star backer. He is a player capable of manning the inside for multiple seasons at the next level. The Tigers are trending up.

KN just recently CB'd him to AU. In my very amateur opinion he's the best LB in the southeast. That's included JJ Peterson, Quay Walker, Richard Jibunor and Channing Tindall in my mind. Will be pumped if we can snag him

5. Dylan Wonnum, OT

Auburn has two offensive line commits, but both are inside guys. The Tigers need a tackle and Wonnum certainly is one of their top targets -- if not THE top guy. The 247Sports Crystal Ball favors South Carolina but Auburn is very much in contention. Wonnum could have a decision this month.

Him and Harris are teammates and their coach apparently has a rule about kids having to commit before the season

4. Richard Jibunor, DE/Buck

The Tigers would love to add an elite edge rusher to the class and our intel suggests they believe Jibunor can be that guy. It's an Auburn-Tennessee battle, but the staff's relationship with Jibunor potentially could be the difference for the Tigers. He's likely to announce this summer. Probably in August but possibly sooner.

Favorite Buck target. Will need time to develop (like Prince Tega) but the upside is scary good

3. Justyn Ross, WR

Ross is a potential franchise receiver. He's 6-feet-4, 197 pounds and one of the most athletic recruits in the country. And he's still fairly raw, meaning he hasn't come close to reaching his ceiling. Auburn and Clemson seem to be in front, but you can't count out Alabama by any stretch. If National Signing Day were today, Clemson probably land him. But he isn't likely to announce until later in the cycle so Auburn has a chance to impress him this fall.

Betting he drops a bit in 247's rankings which means he might lose that composite 5th star. But he's still a monster and #1 on my wants at WR

2. Coynis Miller, DT

Defensive tackle is a big position of need and Miller is the top target. With games won or lost in the trenches, he's an extremely important recruit to the Tigers, who must beat out Alabama for his commitment. He's likely to announce a commitment in August. The Tigers might have a slight edge at the moment.

I am gonna be pissed at Keith if we miss on Miller now after weeks now of telling us we lead

1. Justin Fields, QB

Auburn is a major contender for the 5-star quarterback from Georgia, along with Florida, FSU and the Bulldogs. He will make an overnight visit to Auburn next week, then likely do the same at Georgia. Fields potentially could announce a commitment before the season. Although Auburn already has a solid quarterback prospect committed in Joey Gatewood, the Tigers really could use two singal callers in this cycle and Fields is far and away the top target.

Please god, please let this happen

Looks like you guys forgot what happened when Pettway got hurt last year. We totally sucked running the ball.

You mean when we lost our #1 RB, our #2 RB was clearly playing injured and our 225LB #3 RB was out for the season?

Not too many teams have a 4th string RB who can come in and play like an All American

quote:

We basically have ONE true every down back. All those little other backs we have are cute but we have one hammer.

You seem to regularly forget that we get back from injury 225LB Malik miller. Next year we will have 3 RBs on the roster who are listed at 215+.

For comparison, Adrian Peterson had a combine weight of 217 at 6'1 (taller than our 3 RBs)

quote:

Im not totally sold on KJ. He is shifty but I still think we need a hammer in the middle

I agree on not being sold on him being exceptional, but he is more than serviceable/ good in the bellcow role.

Despite KJ clearly playing through an ankle issue + our anemic passing offense downgrading to JJ, KJ avg 4+ YPC in our one dimensional offense in all but 1 game last year (1st game back from inj)

Ya KJ may not end up as a 1st team SEC guy, but he isn't going to be the weak link in our offense

Really hoping we can get this kid on board this month. No one's talking much about him because Ross is the 5* and all the Fields stuff but this is a legit elite WR. If you haven't watched his highlight tape yet, you really should. Would be a big pull for Kodi

FWIH, Bama wants Hill as much, or moreso, than Ross.

TL;DR version of the above post

We have 3 RBs at 215+, we aren't likely to have serious injuries to RB #1-3 again and KJ may not be an amazing bellcow but he was at least solid

If our RBs are the weak link holding back our offense next year, Jarrett Stidham is playing so well he will deserve to win the Heisman twice in the same season

I do worry a lot about Clemson. They have pumped out NFL WRs, their offense is very WR friendly and CU has already locked up a 5* QB

100% agree.

We have to show a dynamic passing attack and specifically need to prove through NCM and Kyle Davis that we can put up results and showcase top WR recruits.

that has been my only real complaint about Gus as an OC is that his passing tree is so limited and he has refused to update it. At Tulsa, he did an excellent job of stretching the field and running the ball in a balanced offense but he seems to like the all or nothing passing game over moving the sticks.

If Chad Morris doesn't last at SMU, Gus Malzahn should instantly hire him as offensive coordinator. He originally installed that offense at Clemson, and his offense has a much more complex passing scheme.

Word from Hunter is a source close to Fields says he's going to be wearing #2 at AU has been bestowed that number by another #2.

More from Hunter & cb22. Hunter feels we land Fields if we win 9+ & look good on O. Cb doesn't feel Fields is a lock to AU but is 100% sure FSU feels we lead. All FWIW.
