4-star Jalil Irvin looking at Auburn 'very seriously'
quote:
"My recruitment has really picked up in the last two months," the four-star offensive lineman from Stone Mountain, Ga., told AL.com Wednesday. "Mainly since January is when I started getting a bunch of offers. I'm doing pretty well, but I don't have any favorites right now."
Irvin enjoyed his trips to Michigan and Ohio State last week and is looking forward to visiting Auburn March 4. The Tigers offered Irvin a scholarship last October after he visited the campus multiple times.
"They're one of my favorite schools," Irvin said. "I don't have any leaders like that, but my mom and I like Auburn. They're OK in our minds.
"Coach (Chip) Lindsey, Coach (Herb) Hand and Coach (Gus) Malzahn actually called me on Signing Day. I've been hearing from them a lot. They said I have an open door policy up there, I can come whenever I want to come. They like me a lot, so I really appreciate that. My mom and I really like the academics too."
Irvin is a four-star prospect and the No. 16 offensive guard in the 247Sports Composite. Most schools are recruiting the 6-foot-4, 290-pounder as a guard, though Arkansas offered him as a center.

Top 10 linebacker recruiting classes for 2017 (Rivals)
quote:
7. Auburn
The class: Tadarian Moultry (four-star), K.J. Britt (four-star), Chandler Wooten (three-star)
Analysis: Teams had to sign a special group to compete among the SEC’s top linebacker classes, and Auburn responded by grabbing a pair of prospects ranked among the top 113 players overall in this 2017 class. Their first get was also their highest-ranked prospect in the group. Four-star Tadarian Moultry actually played defensive end in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and is known for his pass rush ability. Fellow four-star K.J. Britt is the No. 4 ranked inside linebacker and is known as a big-hitter. The four-star duo is complemented by high three-star Chandler Wooten, who ranks as the No. 42 outside linebacker in 2017.

Auburn's Crystal Ball trends (247)
It's a slideshow of top 25 prospects so not really easy to summarize. I will highlight the most interesting at this time imo
4* WR Justyn Ross - 83% AU | 17% BAMA
4* DT Coynis Miller - 50% AU | 50% BAMA
4* OG Jalil Irvin - 50% AU | 50% MICH
3* DE Andres Fox - 75% AU | 25% BAMA --> surprised by this one
4* WR Matthew Hill - 100% AU --> only 1 CB but by KN
4* LB Quay Walker - 100% UGA --> I expect this changes soon
4* OT William Barnes - 89% UF | 11% UNC

Auburn football adds 2-time FCS All-American OL Casey Dunn as grad transfer (SECCountry)
Maybe I missed it in the article... I would assume, as a grad transfer, that he only has one remaining year of eligibility?
If so, good depth at least.

Looked him up on JSUs website... looks like he has just one year of eligibility left.
Will be interesting to see if he can come in and earn any meaningful playing time this fall. We recruited an FCS OL grad transfer last offseason. He ended picking UGA and was pretty awful for them.

If any FCS lineman can do it, he looks like one to do it. 2x FCS AA, graded at 90%, and didn't allow a sack? Sounds good to me.

Really excited that there is an "As the Grove Burns" pinned thread on the SECr

Didn't know he switched sports...guess that's why he still has a year of eligibility?

Was signed for depth. In case Herb has to make changes at OT, or injuries happen.
He will get a chance to get his body ready, and perhaps more attention as an UFA contract down the road.
Good deal for both parties.
ETA: Will be able to tell his grandkids about playing in the SEC.

I met Casey Dunn the baseball coach without even realizing it once. He's a great guy.
Was a few days after we hired Galloway. I was out at lunch and 3 Samford baseball coaches walked in and sat next to me. I thought they were assistants and we got to talking and I mentioned I had really wanted Auburn to hire Dunn. Before they left one of them told me to look him up on Samford athletic website and email him and he'd hook me up with some tickets when Auburn played @Samford or for whatever game. I get home and go on the website and see the pictures of the coaches and lo and behold I told Casey Dunn that I wanted AU to hire him without even knowing it, and it was him that offered me the tickets.
I know, I know, csb

Sounds like the taxi cab driver who was saying how John Elway was the greatest QB, while Elway was in the backseat of the cab

His sisters go to Auburn too I think
It is an obvious move for him even if he doesn't start. Great move to Auburn to sign another solid interior OL option

I hope that was early in Elways career or that'd be pretty bad
I thought Dunn was older is why I didn't recognize him. And it's one thing to not recognize the Samford baseball coach, but a Hall of Fame Super Bowl winning QB is another thing

heard that on the radio, and yes that was pure gold. Elway's wife really seemed adamant about the man thinking Elway was hot or something, IIRC.

It was recent. Wasn't super embarrassing when you watch the video, driver never really looks into the back.
It looked like Pittsburgh or something and 3-4 people got in the taxi, Elway never talked/always on his phone + had sunglasses on.
