quote:Getting involved in who a coach does or doesn't offer a scholly to is not in an AD's job description. His job, which is very debatable on JJ, is to hire the coaches who are then supposed to get the best product on the field they can through recruiting & player development. I have never heard an AD be involved on who coaches offer schollies to.
I like all Auburn sports and all but in this totally hypothetical scenario yes the AD has to say give the girl a scholarship if it meant landing the #2 player in the country for football. Pretty much a no brainer.

I mean my post was mostly tongue in cheek but surely you can get on board with softball taking one for the team.

quote:Yes if Clint chose to offer the young lady on her own merit or decided on his own he wanted to help football team's chances at landing JF. An AD stepping in on a scholly offer would completely undermine any HC.

No, it's a different guy, but they do agree a lot.
Anyway...everyone should take a xanax, and relax when Clemson, and/or FSU mods CB a kid.
Their mods interview all the Top visitors as they leave. UGA doesn't allow interviews IIRC.
However, it gives the impression that the kid is in love with the school. Keith & Kipp (UGA) are the ones that I pay the most attention to. They don't live at the school's football complex like mods from the aforementioned schools. They try to talk to kids a day or two after the visit.
That is the only way to get a real impression. Every kid is high on a school as the visit ends.
It's like telling a girl you love her just to get those jeans down. It seems like a good idea at the time. But, after a few days, you are on to something else!
How are you going to tell the girl afterward, that it didn't measure up to Sally Jean Sunshine Pu$$ after you said that?

Yep - Been hesitate to re-say the same thing, as it usually gets many a down vote.
You just can't hide the uncertainty of having a new offensive coordinator. We don't know what he's allowed to call or how substantial the changes (+/-). Chip could appear the best fit ever and there's still enough variables to plant doubts. Aside from guys playing the head coaching card.
ETA: frankly I've been expecting a slow off season since Rhett left

Dabo is a hell of a salesman. You think Bama is killing it right now just wait until Dabo is recruiting for them.

I don't know Chip but from the outside looking it seems as though he has enough experience and backbone to not let Gus tell him to run it 3 times then throw it to "insert Sr. wr" on 3rd down.
He was doing fine making a name for himself I doubt he came here to let Gus wreck his future.
But then again... We are talking about Gus, who played 4 qbs vs Clemson

You think Dabo is gonna outdo what Saban has done on the recruiting trail? lol

Not really.
Gus was told, in no uncertain terms, that he was to let go of all playcalling duties this upcoming season. His hire of Lindsey being HIS choice, in the end, was part of that agreement.

Meh. He's never been forced like this, no.

KN with an insider up this morning. Some happy stuff for AU:
- Lots of info on Fields. From all accounts his visit Tuesday, although short, went really well. It appears him and Lindsey really click and they talk basically every day. Something interesting is he met with a few players, most notably Jarrett Stidham (who has been on of Auburn's top player recruiters, seriously dude shows up to the athletic complex every weekend for recruiting events). We also have another player connection to Field in Chandler Wooten. Wooten and Fields have apparently been buddies for while now and even in the same grade as at some point. More importantly (imo) their parents are friends as well. Lots of positive relationships for AU
- As for Auburn's top competition, one source told KN that FSU has emerged as the top threat while another still thinks it's UF. It appears many think Jake Fromm will be the reason UGA won't get Fields but KN isn't so sure. Basically it's still the same vibes for all 4 teams in that they all think they have a shot. KN says it sounds like decision will still come in August as Fields wants to get this behind him before senior year
- One final Fields note is he continues to impress every team off the field with his intelligence both on and off. There's a reason everyone is going all out to get this guy
- KN says confidence is growing that AU will be able to keep Gatewood on board even if Fields commits. He loves Auburn and has clicked with Lindsey. Also staff is encouraged by progress Gatewood has made this spring/summer. FWIW I have heard that he has looked better at each performance this year. Still long ways to go but it's clear he's working on improving and getting results
- Auburn is focusing their RB recruiting efforts on 4* Asa Martin & 4* Dameon Pierce. Martin is a favorite of Lindsey's and apparently the staff thinks they are in a good spot with him right now. As for Pierce there some in AU's camp that have been more impressed with Pierce than Teague because of competition he plays against (personally I think Pierce is a top 15 back while Teague is a top 5). Tigers think they got a shot at Pierce. Overall staff feels very good about getting at least one of Pierce & Martin
- 3* DE Andres Fox stayed and extra night so his trip ended up being a 4 day, 3 night visit. KN says Fox could have a decision soon instead of waiting until August. He still has a visit to Bama that could make things interesting but it's an AU/LSU dogfight right now. It appears Ed Orgeron has made Fox a personal mission and it could go either way right now.
- AU is after recent Arkansas decommit 4* TE Luke Ford. KN thinks Ford will visit
- Apparently one of the top players in the 2019 class, LB Owen Pappoe, visited Wednesday. He spent two hours with T-WILL (Pappoe has said in past that he has one of the best relationships with Williams) as the Tigers are trying to pick things up with him. Still a little too early to tell if AU has shot with Pappoe but KN says Clemson is team leading right now
Really liking the fact we have a lot of close relationships working our way with Fields. I think if we sell momma on AU (she loves UGA right now) then we can win this fight. Also I am gonna be pissed if Orgeron steals away another defensive recruit. Dude has been frustrating to recruit against so far....
