being alive in the playoff discussion going into the IB means we are at least 9-2 going into that IB. So we could still end up 9-3 with an IB loss and I think he'd keep his job.

Post made no sense. The discussion is running production & whether we need elite RBs to have good running game or not.

You could be right but we don't know that yet. I have seen a number of connected AU people as well as HS coaches who are AU fans that have a very high opinion of Devan Barrett FWIW.

KP isn't elite because he doesn't run a sub 4.5.

Almost every other aspect of his game, to me, is elite though. He is one of the best in CFB at finding cutback lanes, has really great lateral agility, gets to his top speed quickly, punishes tacklers, falls forward, and is a fantastic blocker. He hasn't been asked to catch the ball out of the backfield much, but he's probably okay at that. I think he's at least as talented as Ron Dayne was at Wisconsin, with better feet. Not saying he's a Heisman winner or will have those numbers, but from a skills standpoint.....

I have been very disappointed in KJ's game post injury. Like, he shouldn't be playing. I am hoping for a full recovery this upcoming season.

KN put up an insider last night. Here's summary:

- 3* DE Andres Fox is taking a 3 day, 2 night visit to AU starting today. It will just be him. The focus is on him feeling comfortable on campus and spending time with players/coaches. He plans to announce in August but AU is hoping to get him on board sooner. Fox said LSU was team recruiting him hardest a few weeks ago but AU staff trying to change that. It's an AU/BAMA/LSU battle with AU/LSU both liking their chances right now. Doesn't sound like he will commit but definitely a good sign to get him back on campus so soon

- So sounds like once again 3* WR Shedrick Jackson is gonna hold off on committing. Says he is in no rush so might wait until August...

- Apparently it did surprise some at AU that 4* LB Richard Jibunor did not make it to BCW. However he camped at UGA & their 247 guys (Rusty) doesn't think an offer will come. FWIW I read his take and it sounds like staff is concerned about his size or at least the 215-220 lbs part. So with UGA out of the race, the main competition is Bama & Tennessee. Personally I think Bama isn't as a big a threat now with them most likely getting JJ Peterson to go with Quay Walker. AU apparently feels good about where they stand and the thought is his relationships at AU (Travis Williams & Prince Tega) will win out. He plans to announce, you guessed it, in August

- 3* TE Tyneil Hopper couldn't make camp last Thursday because of 7v7 event but will be at AU on Saturday. KN says staff likes him but a strong performance there could really boost his stock with Lindsey. FWIW he's my favorite TE of the group we are recruiting we FitzPatrick 2nd

- KN says that it's not clear when AU's next commitment might be but that the staff feels very good about where they stand right now. Things are expected to slow down over the summer with there just being a few camps though there will be another big recruiting event in July. It sounds like the fireworks won't go off until August when a bunch of targets plan to announce

Here's a rough estimate of who is all waiting till August to announce. It's kinda crazy how many of our top guys have chosen that month:
5* QB Justin Fields
4* LB/Buck Richard Jibunor
4* RB Asa Martin
4* DT Coynis Miller
4* DT Tayland Humphery
4* LB Zakoby McClain
3* DE Andres Fox
3* S Joseph Foucha
3* CB Juanyeh Thomas
3* WR Shedrick Jackson
3* RB Tae Provens

I might be missing some but that's from off the top of my head plus comments in that insider thread

Auburn has 'some flexibility' at quarterback in 2018 recruiting class (AL.com)
quote:

Auburn is satisfied with its depth and competition at quarterback heading into the fall, but concerns remain about future depth at the position for the Tigers.

Following the transfers of Woody Barrett and Tyler Queen, as well as the position change of John Franklin III to wide receiver, Auburn has three scholarship quarterbacks for 2017 in Jarrett Stidham, Sean White and true freshman Malik Willis. With Jarrett eligible for the NFL Draft after this season and White finishing his fourth year on the Plains, there's a scenario where Auburn can enter 2018 with just one of its current scholarship quarterbacks still on the roster.

While the 2018 recruiting class will help bolster depth at that position, the big question is how Auburn plans to approach this recruiting cycle. Auburn likes to take at least one quarterback in each class, and that will remain the plan under new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey.

"Right now, we have one committed, so we feel good about him, and we're just probably going to see how things go," Lindsey said in LaGrange, Ga., last month. "We've got some flexibility in there."

Auburn holds a commitment from four-star quarterback Joey Gatewood out of Bartram Trail High in Jacksonville, Fla. Gatewood has been committed to Auburn since Dec. 5, 2015, and the 6-foot-4, 232-pound dual-threat quarterback reaffirmed his pledge to the Tigers this spring.

Following the transfers of Queen, who left the program after spring break, and Barrett, who transferred to Copiah-Lincoln Community College last month, Auburn's depth at the position has thinned out. While Lindsey told AL.com last month in Johns Creek, Ga., that "not much" will change from the recruiting standpoint following the departures of those two, he left open the possibility of Auburn taking a second quarterback for the 2018 class.

"We feel good where we're at," Lindsey said. "Obviously, you're always looking for good players and our recruiting class is still kind of taking, I guess taking shape, so to speak. We'll continue to evaluate it and make the best decision, we think, for our team."

One possibility high on Auburn's radar if the Tigers do try to add a second quarterback this cycle is former Penn State commit Justin Fields. The five-star quarterback out of Kennesaw, Ga., is the nation's top-rated dual-threat quarterback and the No. 3 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He decommitted from Penn State last week, and while Florida appears to be the favorite for his services now, Auburn, Georgia and Florida State are also in the mix.

If Auburn misses out on Fields and signs just one quarterback to the 2018 class, the team will be best suited if Stidham remains on campus for another season -- there is early buzz that a breakthrough season in 2017 could make him a coveted NFL Draft prospect -- and the Tigers continue to bring along Willis, who was the team's surprise of spring practices, for depth purposes. White will still have a year of eligibility remaining in 2018, but with his graduation set for either December or next May, there's a possibility that he could seek an opportunity as a grad transfer after this season should he lose out on the starting job this fall.

"We're also still excited about the three guys we still have," Lindsey said. "We also have John Franklin, he's capable of obviously playing quarterback for us, so we feel very good with where we're at."

Rewinding an 'awesome' Big Cat (Rivals)
quote:

AUBURN | There weren’t any commitments during or in the days after Auburn’s Big Cat recruiting event but Gus Malzahn saw plenty of reasons to be excited over the 33 top targets that visited June 3.

“Big Cat was awesome,” Malzahn said. “After we got done there are three or four other coaches that have been through all of them since I’ve been back as the head coach and they’re like this may have been the best one overall and very successful.”

As far as commitments go, Auburn is up to six in the 2018 class and Malzahn is expecting more this summer with some upcoming camps and a cookout coming over the next several weeks.

“You know (Big Cat) is not really set up for (commitments),” Malzahn said. “It’s more of a relationship building, getting to know each other. The way we left it we feel great with where we’re at with the staff and it’ll really pay dividends moving forward.”

A handful of prospects left Big Cat with Auburn either leading or tied for the lead including four-star athlete Matthew Hill from Brookwood in Snellville, Ga., and safety Charles McClelland from Clinch County in Homerville.

Hill, who is a lifelong Auburn fan, has the Tigers on top of his list and plans to have a decision this summer. McClelland, who was offered in the days leading up to Big Cat, also has Auburn on top. He wants to hold off on a decision until after his senior season.

While neither three-star wide receiver Shedrick Jackson from Hoover, Ala., or three-star cornerback Juanyeh Thomas from Niceville, Fla., officially named Auburn their leader, both considered committing during Big Cat. Jackson, the nephew of Bo Jackson, could have a decision within the next week or two. Thomas, a former teammate of Eli Stove, wants to announce a decision in August.

Three-star defensive end Andres Fox from Mobile (Ala.) Christian and four-star safety Jamien Sherwood from Jensen Beach, Fla., both have Auburn tied at the top of their respective lists after Big Cat. Fox said the Tigers are tied with either LSU or Alabama. He’s planning to announce a decision later this summer. Sherwood has several schools at the top of his list along with the Tigers including Florida, Ole Miss, Oregon, North Carolina.

The highest-rated prospect at Big Cat was five-star wide receiver Justyn Ross, who called it a special day because it was the first time his mom, who has been serving overseas in the military, was able to visit Auburn with him. Ross went from Big Cat to an Alabama camp and then returned to Auburn Thursday to spend more one-on-one time with the coaching staff.

In addition to Hill, Jackson and Ross, there were a couple of other top wide receiver targets at Big Cat including four-star Tommy Bush from San Antonio, Texas and four-star Kearis Jackson from Peach County in Fort Valley, Ga.

Bush, who comes from a military family, doesn’t mind Auburn’s distance from home and may return for a game this fall. Jackson, who has Auburn in his top three along with Georgia and Ohio State, wants to go to same school as four-star offensive lineman Trey Hill, who also attended Big Cat..

Hill, from Houston County in Warner Robbins, Ga., didn’t name any leaders or a top group but said Big Cat bumped Auburn up. He and Jackson both plan to graduate in December.

Four-star athlete Kyler McMichael from GAC in Norcross, Ga., was originally being recruited by Auburn as a defensive back but likes that the coaching staff talked to him about playing on both sides of the ball during Big Cat.

A number of highly-regarded linebackers attended Big Cat including four-star JJ Peterson from Colquitt County in Moultrie, Ga., four-star Michael Harris from Tucker (Ga.) High, four-star Channing Tindall from Spring Valley in Columbia, S.C. and four-star Caleb Tannor from Miler Grove in Lithonia, Ga.

Peterson, who lists Auburn No. 2 behind Alabama, liked the family atmosphere during Big Cat. Harris has Auburn No. 2 behind Ohio State, but said his mom prefers the Tigers. Tindall, who is from the same high school as Travis Williams, lists Auburn a close second to South Carolina. Tannor has Auburn in his top five along with Georgia, Florida, LSU and Tennessee, and plans to have a decision in July.

Four-star defensive lineman Coynis Miller from Jackson-Olin in Birmingham, Ala., likes Auburn’s plan for him to come in and play as a true freshman. Miller is considering a commitment before the start of his senior season.

Four-star defensive tackle Jalen Cunningham from St. Clair County Odenville, Ala., has Alabama No. 1 on his list and Auburn tied for second with Mississippi State and Ole Miss following Big Cat.

Three-star defensive end Daquan Newkirk, a long-time Auburn commit, was back on the Plains for the first time in 15 months. He has no interest in visiting other schools and plans to enroll at AU in January.

Three-star running back Tae Provens didn’t speak to reporters after Big Cat but listed Auburn in his top five along with Tennessee, LSU, South Carolina and Louisville before the visit. Provens plans to announce a decision on Aug. 11.

4-star athlete visits Auburn, plans summer decision (Rivals)
quote:

AUBURN | Richard Jibunor is getting closer to making his college choice.

The four-star athlete from Athens (Ga.) Christian plans to announce his commitment in August, and could do so without first naming a top group.

“I might just come out and commit,” Jibunor said.

Jibunor has several options from which to choose. Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame and South Carolina are among the many schools to offer. Hometown Georgia is showing interest, but has been unclear with its status on an offer.

Jibunor, who is ranked the No. 24 athlete in the 2018 class, will make an informed decision. He has taken several visits since the spring and has more planned for the summer. Jibunor visited Georgia two weeks ago and plans to visit Alabama on Saturday. He also will visit both Tennessee and Florida before making a commitment.

Auburn has received two visits from Jibunor, including last Thursday when he spent time with linebackers coach Travis Williams and close friend and fellow Nigerian, Prince Tega Wanogho, now a sophomore offensive tackle at Auburn.

“I wanted to hang out with Prince because it’s been a long time since I’ve seen him,” Jibunor said. “He lost his mom a few months ago back home in Nigeria, so I wanted to see him and support him.”

Jibunor and Wanogho hung out for the majority of the day, touring the campus together, playing video games and watching Jibunor’s teammates participate in camp.

“I had a good time with him,” Jibunor said. “He’s doing good now. I always want to be there for him and support him because he has been there for me. Prince is like a big brother to me.”

“Big” may be an understatement. Wanogho is listed on the Tigers’ updated roster at 6-foot-7 and 301 pounds.

“He is a monster now,” Jibunor said. “I bet he could crush my bones in less than a second.”

The two friends could reunite in college at Auburn should Jibunor choose the Tigers, but Wanogho isn’t getting heavily involved in his younger friend’s decision.

“He doesn’t really force me to go to Auburn,” Jibunor said. “He just tells me how good it is and that they take good care of him. He’s really impressed with how his role is growing and how he feels very comfortable (at Auburn).”

Jibunor, too, is comfortable at Auburn, as well as with Williams, the Tigers’ second-year assistant.

“I also got to hang out with Coach T-Will and that was good,” Jibunor said. “We talk almost every day, and seeing him every once in a while is a good thing.”

Jibunor said he’d likely return to Auburn at least once more before making a late-summer decision.

“I love it (at Auburn),” Jibunor said. “It’s fun for me and I feel comfortable.”

Auburn is recruiting Jibunor, who is 6-foot-4 and weighs 210 pounds, to play the buck linebacker position.

Recruiting powerhouse IMG Academy fielding 2 teams in 2017 (SECCountry)
quote:

IMG Academy is known for collecting tons of talented recruits, and now the Ascenders have so many top players that they need more than one team.

IMG, located in Bradenton, Fla., will field two varsity teams in 2017, according to the Bradenton Herald’s Jason Dill. One of the teams – IMG Blue – will play an 11-game national schedule that includes state champions from Florida, Arizona, Alabama and Utah.

“We went out and tried to find teams who were in the top 150, if however possible,” head coach Kevin Wright told USA Today’s Jim Halley. “We have a grinder. With that said, if you’re trying to prepare a kid at the next level, this is the [high school] equivalent to the SEC schedule, minus the easy non-conference games an SEC team might play.”

The other team – IMG White – will play 10 games against other Florida high schools from the 4A and 3A classifications. Neither squad will compete in the Florida state playoffs.

The Ascenders have a roster of 120 players. Head coach Kevin Wright said he thinks the split will allow more players to see the field. He also said players on the White team will get the chance to move up to the Blue team.

“Probably the greatest element is the ability for all 120 kids to get that Friday night lights experience,” Wright said.

IMG puts out tons of top recruits every year. A ton of highly touted former IMG players like 5-star quarterback Shea Patterson (Ole Miss), 5-star running back Bo Scarbrough (Alabama) and 5-star linebacker Dylan Moses (Alabama) have ended up at SEC programs.

The Ascenders’ Blue team opens its season at home Aug. 26 against Florida 6A state champion Carol City in a Kickoff Classic exhibition. The White team will start the season at home against Nature Coast on Aug. 25

Wonder if we will ever sign a kid out of IMG?

My bold prediction - McClain sees very little playing time while at Auburn and ultimately transfers to a JUCO.

That's not very posibarner of you

I am interested in seeing what happens with McClain. Every report I read about him coming out of high school is he had as much athleticism as anyone in that class but that he's incredibly raw at that position. Like his route running was rough, hands inconsistent and took plays off. Honestly it reminded me some of what I heard about Sammie Coates coming out of high school (though not sure about the effort). I definitely don't think he's a major factor this year but I would not be surprised if he ended a star in 2 years or transfers out like you said. Seems like a boom or bust type of prospect

Auburn still in top 3 for elite 2019 receiver Dominick Blaylock (AL.com)
quote:

Elite 2019 receiver Dominick Blaylock isn't far off from making his decision.

Blaylock, the country's No. 10 overall recruit in the junior class, has a top three of Auburn, Georgia and Clemson.

He wants to make a private commitment sometime in August and reveal it later. The 6-foot-1, 189-pound Blaylock is the son of former NBA guard Mookie Blaylock.

"It's getting to be a little pressure-ish," Blaylock said. "I'm ready to get it over with and get a good feel for the school."

Blaylock visited Auburn for Big Cat Weekend earlier this month. It was the third trip this year for Blaylock, who preps at Walton High School in Marietta, Ga.

He spent the most time with Auburn running backs coach Tim Horton.

"He's the one who offered me and a really good coach and really likes the families," Blaylock said. "(Auburn) is a really good school with a really good atmosphere and it's close to home."

Blaylock, who said right now he plans to major in computer science, said that academics, school quality, coaching staff and campus life are among key factors in making a decision.

A MaxPreps All-American, Blaylock caught 59 passes for 904 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore.

"(Auburn likes) how fast I am getting off the ball and my quickness," he said.
