Interesting since Davis is actually much better than Williams. It is great to see quality Lbers play again after what we have seen since 2011.
I think Davis has proven to be a great field general and a tone-setter for the D, but he doesn't cover the ground that Tre can from what I've seen.

Any O line combination that fails to include Horton is incomplete...IMO. I think any possible combination must necessarily include at a minimum Horton, Golson and Smith. And the rest can battle for the final two spots.

I love Horton. Problem is we have an abundance of guards right now. Darius James, Braden Smith, Mike Horton, Marquel Harrell and Wilson bell are all guys that I think can play. Will be interesting to see how it sorts out
Like I said, I would love to move James to LG, keep Braden smith at RG and see our two young tackles in Wanogho and Ashley live up to hype and hold down the tackle spot for next few seasons. No Horton but he could be the 6th OL again this year and move to starting role next season
Fascinated to see how it plays out

My bet is we start the season with James/Bell/Golson/Horton/Smith but would not be surprised if by end of the season it's Wanogho/Bell/Goldon/Smith/James. Very curious to see what that group ends up being
Needs to be the same starting 5 all season. Shuffling like the last few seasons has hurt us. Golson at LT was inexplicably stupid.
Head Coach Gus needs to be able to identify what he has in preseason camp, not 4 games into the season likhe his MO has been.

I hope we start and end the season with the same group, regardless of who it is. That is probably a good sign for the olilne and offense.

Agreed but we never seem to

Agreed but we never seem to find the right 5 until a few games in. I am hopeful we will have it set but I will believe it when I see it

Wouldn't say that. He was an OT coming out of high school. James supposedly was hot & cold in practice. Took Dampeer getting hurt to see it worked better keeping Golson inside

Agree 100%. It's my #1 issue with Gus. The whole purpose of fall camp is to identify who you got and find best combo. I get that some things could change a bit after live games but it shouldn't take a quarter of the season to find the right combo and figure out what team does well. Most of that should be solved by week 2
I recognize my 2nd& 3rd points don't line up I don't think Golson at OT was insane but it's clear that wasn't our best combo and it's frustrating it took a few games for staff to realize that

I could see any combo of those guys happening. Personally I would love to see an OL group of Wanogho/James/Golson/Smith/Ashley but I don't see that happening.
One of the resident "insiders" on AUC says that Tega is a long long ways away.

James was solid at tackle last season. People forget he was a 5* out of high school and the #1 Guard in the country. He's definitely no slouch.
We didn't do him any favors last year having the best pass rushers in the league line up across from him with QB's that held the ball too damn long, didn't know how to feel pressure and move in the pocket, and didn't check down or get rid of it to avoid sacks.

Not surprising really. Not sure why many in here have such a hard-on for him.

Jason Smith changes positions (247)
Guessing he getting a shot at safety

Receiver Jason Smith is now a defensive back, per the latest roster.

He is now wearing No. 25. He was wearing No. 4.
Smith arrived at Auburn as a quarterback, moved to receiver and is now a DB.
We are walking out to practice now.

Everybody did. Years ago when he was being recruited by LSU I was listening to a local sports radio station here in Louisiana and they were drooling over this guy.

Guess it's not that weird, but man he could make some plays at receiver sometimes. Here's to hoping it's the right move.

Supposedly he's an athletic freak. I have heard/read mixed reviews on him at LT. I suspect he is probably a year away though I am hopeful he's further along. We will see

There a 9 minute video on the Auburn facebook page on guys heading to practice. I would link it but it goes to my personal page. Kyle Davis, Marquis McClain, and Nate Craig look like LBers

Marcello says Carlito Gonzalez still not on roster... Might better explain why Jason Smith is making position change

This is a good sign imo. Should mean the younger receivers are improving have passed him on the depth chart.

This may have already been covered somewhere else, but did all of our signees make it to fall camp?

The Bama catch is just engrained in your mind. He had SEVEN catches last year. We need the bodies on D and if he could make half the impact Trovon Reed did at DB, he'll be important for us with our depth.

Alaric Williams did not. Carlito Gonzalez had worked to do, but Gus seemed optimistic. Haven't heard anything with him so
