Clemson just landed a replacement RB so that pretty much locks Barrett in. Also KN doing a recruiting chat, will have recap in morning but he think AU is trending up at moment with Markaviest Bryant coming to town. Interestingly Moultry is being used by some schools as a negative recruiting tool on Bryant saying that he's who we really want at Buck. Considering this just recently has come out me thinks Yaw Yaw might be the one pushing that on Bryant. Kirby has been working the unstable narrative all season

No and he was also pretty bad this year

Dumb. This is from PFF from before the bowl so you can probably add another game, but:

quote:

Auburn CBs Carlton Davis and Johnathan Ford have just two-combined 100 yard coverage games against them this year

He didn't start for the shite show against Oklahoma's passing game but he graded out as one of our top defenders in the game, so maybe he should have

quote:

Top defensive players:

ED Carl Lawson, 84.5

DI Dontavius Russell, 77.3

DI Marlon Davidson, 75.9

S Tray Matthews, 75

CB Carlton Davis, 66.6

If I remember correctly, Kevin Greene lobbied for the LB job before we hired T-Will.

That was his wife. She got tired of him being around the house apparently.

Pretty sad when we have to celebrate LSU getting the #1 inside linebacker. Even sadder if they get both.

The guy who we weren't sure was going to play WR or RB is the only one who could be an every down back? Good one bro.

Yeah he's being dumb. Carlton excelled all year against every one but Ole Miss which was to be expected and alot of the yards and completions that went his way that game he had lock down coverage, the very talented Ole Miss receivers just made very good plays.

We will have KJ + Malik Miller

Neither have proven they can hold up or really can be what we need. Lets see what happens but if I were a run first offense, I would be putting more emphasis on recruiting guys bigger than what we have.

Hopefully its a non issue but this year it was a issue when Pettway was hurt. Nobody could step up

Yesterday afternoon KN put up an insider about Ryan Johnson & Tyler Taylor. Here's summary

- 4* DE Ryan Johnson is no longer gonna have a decision today because he decided to officially visit Texas. Plans to announce on either Sunday or Monday after the visit. Most still feel it's AU/STAN battle and Tigers staff feel pretty good about where they stand but recognize it will be a fight till the end

- 4* LB Tyler Taylor wanted to make a decision yesterday but now KN is hearing it could drag out to NSD. KN says he gets a different answer on which way he is leaning from different people. His mom and him are still asking both staffs plenty of questions while trying to make decision. I actually think longer it goes helps AU as LSU's barren LB class will suddenly have bodies and the main appeal they present seems to be playing time. Either way KN says too close to call right now

In a shocker 3* TE John Samuel Shenker says AU leads

He told KN that there is "60%" change he commits to AU this weekend. Apparently he had been in contact with staff 1-2 months before Lindsey's hire but wouldn't pull a trigger on offer until new OC. Says Lindsey & Fountain were a hit with his mom

KN says he would be surprised if he didn't commit Sunday after official

Apparently it might be a 4 team battle for Markaviest Bryant who received visit from Alabama this week. It was thought that 4* DE Jarez Parks was their target but are now trying to push for Bryant. It's still thought that UGA leads but both AU/LSU are right on their heels supposedly. Bryant did not make official to Arkansas as planned but will be in AU this weekend. Like I said yesterday some coaching staffs are telling Bryant that he isn't our top Buck target because of Moultry. KN says Moultry was recruited to be a LB but if they don't land Bryant he could move to Buck according to his sources. FWIW I think Moultry lands at Buck no matter what but interesting this is narrative some schools are trying to sell now. Bryant plans to announce on NSD on CBSSports.com at 10:30 am CT

KN did a recruiting chat yesterday. Here are some highlights

- KN expects both 3* TE John Samuel Shenker & 3* OL Matthew Tanner to commit Sunday after official visit. I am sure the posts that day will be extremely positive

- Someone asked for percentages on getting the combos of Taylor/Johnson/Bryant. KN said all 3 at 35%, 2 of 3 at 45%, 1 of 3 65% & 0 of 3 25%. Take those made up odds how you like....

- Of course there is a super secret visit rumor. KN doesn't know name as not much info leaking out of AU offices but there could be someone else that visits this weekend as well

- Will have a list up today of what 2018 players are coming up for junior day this weekend. AU feels good about where they stand early for 4* WR Justyn Ross, 4* WR Jacob Copeland & 3* DL Coynis Miller

- Thinks AU will stick with just 1 WR this class. Only other ones they would take would be 4* Henry Ruggs or 4* Oliver Martin. Both are highly unlikely at this time

- Someone asked on how much Bama wants Bryant and KN says not sure but has been told by AU people they feel Tide are coming strong after Bryant

- Was asked for chances of landing Bryant and surprisingly said 45-50%. So before getting official thinks basically 50/50 shot which seems a little high for me but who knows...

- As of now thinks we stick with the 2 RBs we got. Confirms AU walked away from Matthews because he was taking officials without really communicating with them and might not have the grades to qualify

- Could leave 1-2 spots open to pursue grad transfers. KN guesses we would look at WR & OL but that's just a guess and hasn't heard anything from sources

Auburn defensive lineman Derrick Brown helped guide target Tyler Taylor’s career path (SECCountry)
quote:

When Taylor was a high school freshman, he left Duluth High School for a new destination that would provide him with a better chance to shine on the football field. Taylor and his mother wanted to remain in Gwinnett County, which would cost Taylor his sophomore year of eligibility, so the duo had to make a calculated decision.
The search took the Taylors to a notable destination.

“As we brainstormed, we did a lot of research on Derrick Brown. We concluded this guy has the potential to be the No. 1 in the state. We watched his film. We did everything. From that, we said that Lanier is going to be our choice for football,” Taylor’s mother, Akita, told SEC Country. “As long as they see Derrick, they’re going to see you, if you do what you’re supposed to do.”

It turned out to be a wise decision. Brown did, in fact, become the No. 1 player in Georgia. Taylor, too, stepped into his own role as an SEC-caliber football prospect. He grew into his 6-foot-2, 230-pound frame and became a versatile linebacker for Lanier. It thrust him up the national rankings — to where he is now at No. 248 nationally.

Taylor now finds himself in the same position as a season ago. Multiple worthy programs are chasing, but only one can win out. Auburn is firmly in the mix.

Akita Taylor knows it isn’t a coincidence.

“It’s interesting that Derrick Brown brought us to Lanier, so they have a very good relationship together. I guess when you look at it like that, it’s almost like, ‘Well, I came to Lanier because of you, and we had a great relationship, and we gambled. It worked out.’ It’s almost like, ‘Hey, why not do the same thing?'” Akita Taylor said. “I really feel like him and Derrick complement each other.”

quote:

The fact Auburn and LSU both went in-home Wednesday is just another indicator the decision is on the immediate horizon. This decision could really go either way. Recruits often mention listing pros and cons, real or imaginary, that help them narrow down their choices. Taylor’s lists for Auburn vs. LSU would look a little like this:

Auburn pros: Great relationship with Travis Williams. Closest school to home. Friendship with Derrick Brown. Program that Akita Taylor might consider the best among his options. Auburn cons: Loaded linebacker depth chart. Three committed linebackers already in 2017.

LSU pros: One committed linebacker so far in 2017. Early playing time promises. Linebacker development history of Dave Aranda. Perceived coaching stability under first-year head coach Ed Orgeron. LSU cons: Much farther from home. Heavy communication began late in the process.

To decipher the “right” answer from those two is purely subjective.

Coveted FB recruit Chase Lasater turns down Auburn with letter, could choose Lane Kiffin instead (SECCountry)
quote:

Chase Lasater may have seemed like a strong bet to join the Auburn recruiting class, but that ship appears to have sailed on Thursday.

Lasater called Auburn his “main school” after an official visit to The Plains last weekend, but apparently he had a recent change of heart based on the change from Rhett Lashlee to Chip Lindsey at offensive coordinator.

On Thursday, Lasaster posted a letter to Twitter explaining that he would not be committing to Auburn and inviting other schools to jump into the fray.

at title to that article. Yes Lasater turned us down so he could go play at FAU

Auburn recruiting: The de-commitments in the Class of 2017 (SECCountry)
quote:

It’s always peaks and valleys on the recruiting trail.

The peak will come in less than a week when the Tigers finalize their 2017 class on National Signing Day, bringing 20-plus new members into the Auburn family. Auburn made a few big splashes in recruiting this year: 5-star Calvin Ashley and 4-star Jarrett Stidham. The Tigers have done a tremendous job of finding lower-rated prospects who have emerged through their senior years: Tadarian Moultry, KJ Britt, Chandler Wooten and Malik Willis.

But there, inevitably, have been a few valleys, too. Commitments and de-commitments are the name of the game in college football recruiting. In the 2017 class, the Tigers have three de-commitments.

In a look at what could’ve been, here’s a look at those three decisions and how they affected Auburn’s 2017 recruiting class for better or for worse.

For those of you that seem to enjoy being miserable this article should be fun for you

BREAKING: No. 1 JUCO ATH Octavius Matthews de-commits from Auburn (SECCountry)
quote:

Whatever the circumstances, Auburn is down to 19 commitments in the 2017 recruiting class.

Octavius Matthews told SEC Country on Thursday that he has de-committed from Auburn. As Keith Niebuhr of 247Sports first reported, this may have been a decision on the Tigers’ end. Either way, Matthews was already beginning to explore other options.

He took an official visit to Purdue last weekend. Matthews said he “may” take an official visit to Tennessee this weekend, though the Volunteers already accepted a running back commit earlier in the week. As of now, Matthews said Purdue and Kansas are the favorites at this time.

Signing Day preview: Auburn's top needs at receiver, tight end (AL.com)
quote:

Auburn loaded up at the wide receiver position in the 2016 recruiting cycle, so the Tigers did not have to put too much of an emphasis on it this time around.

Igbinoghene, a football and track standout at Hewitt-Trussville in Birmingham, is the only receiver committed at this time. He took his official visit to the Plains last weekend and got acquainted with the team's new offensive coordinator, Chip Lindsey. He remains solid in his commitment and also spoke highly of receivers coach Kodi Burns.

"The fact that he's coaching me and he's been through it, I just love that and love everything about him so I can't wait to be coached by him," Igbinoghene said.

The 6-foot, 190-pounder posted 1,710 all-purpose yards (751 rushing, 712 receiving) with 18 touchdowns as a senior. Igbinoghene told AL.com last month he feels Auburn will use him in jet sweeps and at inside and outside receiver as Stove did in 2016.

Auburn offers in-state 2018 offensive tackle (AL.com)
quote:

Brooks 2018 offensive tackle Kameron Stutts tweeted this afternoon that he has received an offer from Auburn.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Stutts is rated three stars and the nation's No. 60 offensive tackle by the 247Sports Composite. His previous offers include Mississippi State and Troy.

Stutts was named Class 5A first-team All-State last season after grading 84 percent and helping the Lions average 36.2 points and reach the second round of the playoffs.
