I find it weird that Defensive recruits aren't jumping all over us with Muschamp. Guess they are being told he is a one trick pony and will be gone the next year.
Time for a spurrier-like press conference to clear things up

Can we start a "Our recruiting is terrible" thread for all the whining? I hate coming to catch up on a couple days and having to sift through all the shite.

I'll makes sure to steer clear of you in order not to offend. I thought you were capable of taking a meaningless jab on an Internet message board
we've always gotten along, I'm not sure why you think I would choose now to make anything personal

I am and have taken more jams than most. As long as you can take it back. If you are going to continue with your "Higher than mighty" attitude, dont expect everyone to just sit and take it.
And to WDE, nobody was whining. Just making a observation that things were moving along slowly this year. Thats all. IT would be nice to to have to pull all our cruits in at the end. Which is why I made the statement that it would be nice to have some targeted guys who would commit early and stick with it.

Denson was a 2* or unranked WR when we got him outa Hoover. Too bad he blew his knee. Think Amari Cooper was similar and Sammie Coats was a 3* we stole from USM.
I think WR and DL are the two hardest positions to project from high school to college.

Denson was a 4* all American and Cooper was a top 50 overall player as a recruit. Wtf are you talking about?

McClain's tape looks pretty legit. Big kid who can run, catches with his hands, sleeve game strong.

A misunderstanding then , I apologize

Denson got a big bump when he committed to us and
Then showed out at a 7v7 tournament.

But on the flip side. How much did he contribute to Auburn on the field?
Yes, I fully understand he was injured.

We play solid D this Fall, and Muschamp lets it be known (again) he will be around, watch out.
If you watch, every Spring/Summer, the leghumpers are certain that they will be turning 5* players away come NSD. Come NSD, they are bitching about losing said 5*'s to us, and others.
Every fanbase has it's own circadian rhythym. I was just surprised to see you, LanierSpots, being so down on us.

Auburn does its selling in the fall with its performance on the field and game day atmosphere. Having been on a lot of college campuses and being from NY, it's easy to understand this.
We are nearly equidistant from some state school powerhouses that negative recruit the shite out of us, ie NFL track record, Muschamp will be gone, inconsistent record, defense of late. When everywhere a player visits they hear that shite about us, it can be impactful. I believe we do it to a degree but we get ganged on. FSU stock has risen with Jimbo, UGA where we usually get our share is getting tough with Pruitt and rising Tennessee pillaging. Mississippi is tougher. Etc.
In a state like Louisiana, if you go to LSU, you are a news media darling and a state hero. With Bama the way they are right now, choosing us can be seen as risky and if you ball out for auburn in a game, your news article will come after one highlighting a Bama players performance on al.com and on the news. It's the way it is.
Also, the town of auburn itself is not for everyone. Toomers is far from USC's bright lights of LA, it's not Athens or even the bar scene of Tennessee. a lot of these players like that big spotlight and they like being a big deal to a lot of people. I don't know if its changed but I remember one summer in auburn and there wasn't shite going on. That's why we go for these lunch pal to work types. you either like the feel of auburn when you're there and realize we have Leninism coaching, or you don't.
So when fall gets here and we're going in dry on these other programs, our stadium is rocking, we're all over espn with a revamped hard hitting defense and an offense lighting up the scoreboard, and a campus abuzz each week, we'll make our money. For now, we get a few loyalists who like our depth chart (Stove) we find our couple gems through summer camps where Craig is literally throwing to these WRs and I trust that evaluation, and we get some parents in our pocket that like our genuine staff over hood rat glory NFL pipeline shite villes which will pay dividends near NSD.
It can be the smallest moment, a miniscule event that makes a player choose a school..I like when those happen in December and January where other schools have little time to shoot that down.
I am deploying late August to a remote area in the Pacific with little internet and no tv until March. fricking March, the entire season! It's okay to be negative as we've whiffed on some big dogs, sure. But let's not act like we still have half a class to fill and we're going mizzou on the rest. We might fade with him but we're in frickin Garys Top 3. We won't finish with a number one class but we won't finish frickin 15th.
Now let's just field an improved defense with some energy and get a couple stud frickin DTs and a safety.

Dude, go back and read my statements. I was not being down at all. Just realistic. We are behind right now. If that means I was being down on us, then I was.

Sure there are plenty who are whining itt, and it's the same ones every year. I really wasn't addressing anyone though. I was Just stating what I have come to learn about Auburn recruiting.
It would be damn nice to have a group of bad asses committed early and stay committed, but that was my point all along. I don't think our program will get that especially on a consistent basis, unless Malzahn or someone else can consistently win 9-11 games a year, win hardware, and get kids drafted to the NFL.
I can say we get more of the top players coming on visits and they at least are listening to what we have to offer. Not bad for a cow college.

Good luck on your deployment.
I think the frustration is that most of the guys we are recruiting this fall were on campus last fall. They've been on visits, done the family thing, and are still slow playing us. Last year we were everyone's mistress

Actually, I am typically very realistic. No blue sky for me. I tend to call it like it is. I am not afraid to own up to those standards for myself in my personal life or for any other thing I follow.
Right now, we are behind on recruits compared to most of the other teams we tend to compete with. Hopefully, we will catch up.
