I know ESPN is usually late on recruiting news but I just read the profile they put on Holland. How does the race look between us and Florida?

With regards to Holland, Thompson and Godwin; we will benefit greatly if UF and UGA crap the bed.

Tyler Carr could develop into an excellent Guard. He just isn't athletic enough to play LT in the SEC. He is good enough though IMO, to warrant an offer. He will be a leadership asset to whomever he signs with as well.

I have heard really good things about Torrance Gibson, fwiw. Don't know how much he's been discussed lately.

Really thinking we lead at the moment.

Didn't he just name the Vols his leader?

Eta: from the recruiting board:
quote:

Five-star quarterback Torrance Gibson just wrapped up a long Spring Break road trip. He visited several schools including Oklahoma, LSU, Clemson, Auburn, Tennessee, and Florida. Gibson hopes to return to LSU and Tennessee and said the Volunteers are now his leader after the trip. The Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage standout also plans to visit Ohio State this summer.

Also read somewhere he said AU and UT stood out on his tour around the southeast.

Recruit him as whatever he wants to be on the college level (assuming offensive tackle), let him try it when he arrives, then kick him inside to guard if he hasn't improved or doesn't have what it takes...
We are recruiting him as a Guard which is where Keith says TC should have been at the Nike camp Sunday. TC was at Tackle instead.

Depends on which interview you read. I've seen about 5 different teams that have been in his top 3.

I think choosing between us and UT would be a no-brainer, considering Gus' success w/ athletic QBs compared to Butch Jones.

I like how we've gone from not knowing if he was going to visit in the Spring or Summer to him visiting 2 times within a month when he comes back on April 18th. If he's not staying 2 days though I wish he would come back for the A-Day game on the 19th instead. My guess is he will go to another team's Spring game instead.

I love the thought of us having a QB roster next season of:

Jeremy Johnson
Jonathan Wallace (may move on?)
Sean White
Tyler Queen
Torrance Gibson

That is a LOT of pure talent at one position. Obviously we only need one, which IMO will be Jeremy Johnson (followed by Sean White when JJ is gone) but that is a shite ton of high ceiling talent. We certainly SHOULDN'T have the issues Bama has at QB, considering this talent pool combined with a QB friendly offense and good QB coaching.

....And we're actually smart enough to wait and watch a kid throw in person for us before giving a committable offer.

That is one reason I'd really like for Auburn to start having a QB only type of camp very close to February so that we can ask the top kids we're looking at to attend and compete and then see who we REALLY want from there.

The earliest we can do that is June. That's why all the college camps are in June and July. All evaluations before June are at the prospect's school.

Gotcha...didn't know that. That rule should be changed considering the pace of recruiting now being faster than ever.
