Smith is a pretty good coach. Calling him damn good is a bit of a stretch

If you can win a national championship and take a shite program like Texas Tech to the NCAAT in a loaded big12, you're a damn good coach. He also made a sweet sixteen at perineal underachiever UGA.

I get it... you were probably 4 when he was winning at Georgia and UK.

He only won 19 games at TX Tech in season 3. I wouldn't get ahead of myself on that NCAAT appearance

His NC win was with an absolutely loaded roster. There is a reason he never got back there

That roster wasn't that loaded and he was a #1 seed several times and made several Elite 8s...once was upset by Tom Crean and Marquette who had 3-4 NBA players on that team...including Dwayne Wade who had a triple double that game

They returned 3/5 starters that were JR/SR for the 96 NC runner up. The other 2 players were JR/SRs that were key rotational guys in 96

That is a stacked veteran team

Merrill Holden from La Tech is visiting the 29th. Other than he hurt his thumb this year and he plays the 4 I know absolutely nothing about him. Would be immediately eligible.

Why must value be judged by playing in the NBA?

Yeah how many NBA guys did Nova have? You can have a stacked team without any NBA players in CBB

Very very few programs put more than 1 player in the NBA on a year over year basis with many great programs going several years without a player sticking.

Nova and Xavier are two good examples from this year

You better tell the 1999 Champion Uconn team that was some 36-2 they didn't have enough 1st RD NBA talent.

3Law GTFO. Tubby is a good coach but not elite. If he was elite, he wouldn't have been losing for a job twice in past 5 years

Who said he was elite??

And that UConn team wasn't loaded. The Duke team they beat tho...that team was LOADED. Brand, Battier, Avery, Maggette, Langdon...thats off the top of my head

Tubby won at UK with a stacked veteran team that returned 5 guys who played minutes on a NC runner up

You seemed to be upset by that

Uconn coasted with Richard Hamilton. That bean pole was the truth

I don't think that UK team was THAT stacked. Veterans? Yes. Stacked? No

Nazi Mohommed, Jamaal Magloire and Scott Padgett only pros

I would take 1 star with 4 good not great JR/Sr multi year starters over a team of freshmen superstars

That seems to always be the winning formula on a yearly basis
