Met a kid who claims to have tutored Dee Liner in high school from the Schoals area. Said he tutored him a couple horus a week in math and he still failed the class. Said that he truly did get in trouble last year when he got arrested too.

None of this really surprises me. I never saw an interview with Liner that made me think he was a scholar and of course you get in trouble if you get arrested. I wasn't mad that we missed on Liner at any point, especially with the old coaching staff in place. They would have let him run amuck and he probably would have been arrested 2 or 3 times by now under the old staff.

A few tidbits on RaShaan Evans from 247's Kipp Adams:
1) When discussing official visits, Rashaan said he believes he will take one to Auburn Aug. 31 for the Washington St. game.
2) Kipp Adams thinks Evans will make his commitment in the next three months. Being able to get him on an official before then could be a plus for the Auburn staff.
3) Kipp Adams doubts Evans' recruitment will end after his commitment, so the possibility remains that Auburn will ask Evans to put off his official visit until December to try and get the last word in.

I get that these kids want to feel wanted but why bother with an official to a school you live at? Take your officials to places you wouldn't go otherwise since you already know Auburn and Alabama so well.

Free shite they can give him?

Official Visit: Any visit to a college that is paid for by that university. You and/or your legal guardians will have your transportation to and from the college paid for. Also paid for by the college will be your room, meals (three per day), and entertainment expenses. Generally you will receive three free passes to that college's home game the weekend you are in town. Before you take a visit you must send your transcripts to the college (Division 1 only) and SAT or ACT score and register with the Eligibility Center.
quote:
Unofficial Visit: Anytime you or your legal guardians visit a college campus that is funded by you. You can take as many unofficial visits as you would like. During dead periods you cannot speak to any of the coaches while visiting the campus. Three free tickets to a home game is the only thing a coach can give you during an unofficial visit.

ok. I know the difference between the two. I guess it would be a way to make about $1k or so in reimbursements for room, meals and entertainment?
I still stick with my original question, why would you take an official to a school that is 10 minutes from your house?

You get treated differently on an OV and is a great experience. There really is a difference

I didn't offer the two definitions because I thought you didn't know what they were. I just threw them up for reference because your original post made me look.
I am guessing the coaches are given more freedom under an official, and yes the reimbursement part. Other than that I agree with your question of why not take them somewhere else?

Gives guys a chance to let their parents get treated like royalty. While technically, they can't pay for parent's stuff (pretty sure but someone may need to fact check) I do know that the parents basically get paid for as well

I'm hoping he reschedules his official visit and comes at a later time, perhaps for a big time game.

In recruiting news that affects Auburn, Bama took a commit from OG Ross P. This makes the odds very long that Jordan Sims is a take for them and questionable at best that they take Casher.

Shannon "Lucky" Terry switched his Casher and Sims picks to Auburn this morning.

Few more tidbits on RaShaan Evans from Kipp Adams' new article:
1) On Alabama: RaShaan Evans was shocked that Kirby Smart came after him as hot as he did, recently. Kirby Smart told him that he really didn't think it'd be smart to recruit him since he was from Auburn High School, and the overwhelming opinion was that he would eventually be an Auburn lock. RaShaan Evans let them know that he was open to some colleges right now, not just Auburn.
2) On Georgia: RaShaan Evans loves the Georgia staff. He went on to say that he would love to follow in the footsteps of Jarvis Jones, and seeing him play originally spun his attention to Georgia. He also respects Georgia because they were the first school to offer him. His dad has spent a lot of time talking to Mark Richt, and he says Scott Grantham and Mark Richt are "his boys". Says he is very different than Nick Saban because Mark Richt is really approachable, and easy going.
3) On UCLA: He has a great relationship with UCLA's outside linebacker coach. They talk a lot (didn't really have much else to say).
4) On Auburn: RaShaan Evans has been to Auburn roughly 20 times. Even before then, he had visited a ton with his father. At first, he really wasn't considering Auburn, mainly because of the last staff and loss of Gus Malzahn. He was head over heels for Georgia, until Auburn re-hired Gus Malzahn as the head coach. He says that Gus Malzahn knew him before anyone because RaShaan Evans used to be a quarterback, and he remembered all of the times he was coached by Gus Malzahn. He went on to say that Gus Malzahn then hired a great coaching staff, and that they care about life, not only football. RaShaan Evans says now that Auburn is right there with Georgia, at the #1 spot in his top 5. He also noted that he feels Auburn and UCLA need him the most because of a lack of depth chart, and that's a positive for both schools.
