Can anyone explain to me how Brandon Harris was practically begging for an Auburn offer a few weeks ago as the one that he "wanted" to the point of not even going to BCW and barely paying us any attention now?

Assuming This:
Judd - Ole Miss
Choice - Clemson
Chubb - UGA
Who do we turn to at RB besides Roc?

I haven't followed his recruitment that closely, but since then, he's received serious attention from two bigger name progams -- one of which is in-state. Neither LSU or Bama's offense fits his skill set... at least not as well as A&M or Auburn, but good recruiters can sell anything to anybody.
Bottom line is his recruitment has blown up over the past month... and the program who's 9 hours away, went 3-9 last season, and hired a new staff is on the outside looking in.

Per Hoke's article, he loves Malzahn and Cam. I get the vibe Watson is higher on our list, though.

let's be honest... regardless of whether Watson is higher on some board than Harris doesn't matter... the odds of us getting either are pretty slim. Watson has been committed for some time, and Harris is committing in July and has yet to visit.
IMO, getting an elite talent at QB in 2014 is not critical... hopefully we'll pull out the stops and sign an elite prospect in 2015.

Its pretty critical considering the number of busts we had at QB.

Yep, we don't have anything at QB right now.

we have a year to figure out the QB position... Marshall will likely start 2013 and 2014... hopefully johnson redshirts in 2013 and competes in 2014. Whoever we sign in 2014 will redshirt and compete with Johnson in 2015.
I still don't think it's make or break that we sign an elite QB in 2014... but it will definitely put a lot of pressure on JJ to be the man in a couple years.

ellitor, what is the word on Clark & Roc on 247?

quote:Nothing new on Roc. All indications are Auburn is in the drivers seat going into the Summer but that could change if Bama turns up the heat. Bama will not do that though til they feel they lost Fournette.

On Clark one source with knowledge of Clark's recruitment says Auburn is making a strong push.

I didn't say he was begging. I said he was "practically" begging and then I went on to describe *exactly* what I meant by saying that, re: an offer from Malzahn was the one he REALLY wanted.
If you're going to respond to me, respond to what I actually said rather than the strawman you set up in your head.

quote:Regardless I think your perspective is flawed on this one. I read Harris' comments on getting the Auburn offer and I don't consider them begging, practically begging, or any way in the form of begging you want to try to make it out to be. Did he slob all over it? Yes, but any form of begging? No. As I said before. It really does not matter anyway whether he begged or not because his dad is the lead dog here.

And I do not understand your angry or aggressive tone. I did not attack you personally or any other way. Just a friendly difference of opinion.

I think everything will change if Auburn comes out and puts up big numbers on offense. The season will mean more in recruiting than anything the recruits are saying now.
As far as the players only waiting on bama's attention, maybe they will see that they are only being used as a backup plan and will be pushed aside unless things go a certain way. And that will continue even if they sign with saban and go to bama. But it may be too late at that point and they will end up at South Alabama just to get playing time.

totally agree. In the eyes of a soon to be high school senior QB, 2010 was a long time ago... we've been painful to watch on offense for two years now (one with malzahn).

Winner winner Chiken dinner
I also find it amusing at the increasing number of recruits committing to Bama early so as not to lose their spot when said spot will be politely removed should a more valued player come along.

We gave Chizik too much credit in thinking he knew how to be a HC. Gus did make him look like he knew what was going on. But looking back he only won 8 games total without Gus and won 30 with. So I think its safe to guess Gus will be a lot better.
