It's a little better, but I don't even like the verbalized threat of "you shop, we shop". You are the face of a University, take the high road ffs.

I prefer an approach to recruiting by a kid similar to how Jeff Whitaker or Carl Lawson did it.

Open.

Honest.

But I'm not gonna condemn a high school kid who "commits but visits" or whatever. Its the last chance that they'll have full or majority control over the decisions in their football career.

After they sign their LOI things become nigh impossible to change without great penalty to themselves.

In the NFL they have no choice, they are drafted. And NFL free agency has the least options of any professional league.

Some of these kids are under a lot of pressure from ALL directions. I ain't gonna judge'em.

Oh, except for Reuben Foster. He's an a-hole.

Roc's Dad on the Staff
quote:

You can only hide who you are so much. This weekend showed Auburn is a great staff that interacts with the kids. I've spoken with them many times; I like this staff, it's a cool staff,

On the decision
quote:

It's his decision, he has to be happy with where he's at," Frank Thomas said. "I have a preference, but I don't want to really say, because he'll take that into consideration and I don't want him to. I don't want any pressure. I'm an Alabama fan, but if Auburn is the best fit, I'm always Roc's fan and I'll be an Auburn fan for that time.

On the previous Auburn staff
quote:

I don't remember them recruiting Roc, I never talked to them,

More on the new staff and the Bama RB sitch
quote:

The new staff is doing everything they need to be doing. Right now, I'd probably say Auburn is recruiting him harder than anyone," Frank Thomas said. "Alabama was the first program to take notice of him during his sophomore year, so they've always been in the picture. But this new Auburn staff is going all out, they are going pretty hard. When you visit them, they let you know they want you -- you're a priority. At Alabama, you have almost ten running backs that are there already. It maybe doesn't make sense to go after that position because they have a lot of running backs.

On the possibility of Roc to FSU or Oregon
quote:

I'm going to let him go where he wants to go," Frank Thomas said. "I haven't missed a game, maybe a couple of games since he's been playing since he was nine years old. I'd love to continue to see games in this state, but I'm not putting that on him. He has to live his life.

on a timetable for a decision
quote:

We don't know exactly," Frank Thomas said. "Looking at everything -- we're looking at graduating early possibly, that's an option. Maybe a decision isn't too far out. He hasn't decided.
Also Roc plans to visit Oregon for "The Opening" and visit Auburn and Bama again this summer.

College football needs an early signing period like basketball. If Watson is all Clemson, let him go ahead and sign there. Save everyone the trouble.

He would still be going through this now though. The earliest an early signing period would be is in July after the summer camps.

Daron Payne has a 4* offer list and a 0* rating. Bama, Ole Miss, Miss State, USCe, and us is a pretty impressive list for an unrated prospect. Bet he gets a hell of a bump now that Rivals knows he exists.

Yep,Roc is headed to Bama in the end. Wouldn't suprise me to see him commit to AU at some point, but he will sign with Bama in the end. That's where he wants to be and where his family wants him to be.

What RB's are we recruiting other than Chubb,
Thomas, & Choice?

Time will tell but I have a feeling in my gut Bama will shoot themselves in the foot and regret it.

unfortunately, when your father (and the player) are big bama fans, they will/may shoot themselves in the foot... but not end up regretting it.
