secondary just still looked soft to me. and giving up less yards? yea, but that's because they had 600+ last year. this year we held them to only 500+... not that great of improvement

I expect improvement I just expected to see a more physical D

and yea the ellington thing was kind of freakish, but holland even said that he was trying to "body slam" him and didn't properly tackle like he should have. It's in the article on the defense on 247... vanGorder said tackling was a big problem... just like last year

again, I expect improvement and I like that they never stopped fighting

This was one of the positives I took out of this game. Even at the goal line when Clemson had the chance to put it away, we found a way to force them to a FG.

thread on 247 started by paul strelow...

said he had a chance to talk to montravious after the game...

said he thought both d lines did well but clemson's was better. said auburn really needs help in the middle on the line

said clemson is a great place to be and he loves the atmosphere and coaches. said he liked auburn too, just had to get to know the players better and how "they really live"

also said that montravious spoke to dabo on the phone after the game and dabo reiterated the point that he needed to bring his mom on his next trip...

said he didn't speak to ckizik after the gam...

Not sure how to take that but at first read, I don't feel warm and fuzzy.

That's a pro-Clemson article. Go read Hoke's pro-AU article.

Either way, there's not that much to worry about with Montravius

I said this earlier but any defense recruit watching that game should have been imagining how they could come in & be an immediate contributor.

We need some defensive players who are mean & coming in ready to kill. If they don't have that meantaility, we may as well stick with the players we have

I don't see Andre Ellington running wild on us as a negative, to be honest. He gashed us in 2010, 2011, and 2012. It was just more prominent last night because of that long run when Jake Holland missed a tackle. He has been an Auburn killer his entire career. I think we will bounce back against State and play better. I'm just worried about Kiehl. He was flat out off on some passes. They just weren't even close.

I see the State game being a low scoring game and I hope to see us run the ball more. Kiehl needs to throw around 15-20 times a game and we need to have more of a running game and I feel fine about beating the Bulldogs.

cover 2 zone coverage is a joke

I was pretty drunk last night but I seem to remember us running a lot of cover 3 (hence why the CB's were so far off the LOS) but I agree about mixing up coverages and going man more. I wish we would hide our coverages too. We are showing the coverages every play. Any QB/OC with a brain knows what is going to be open when both corners drop, a safety comes up near curl, and the other safety moves to the middle of the field.

on the bright side Ohio converted 11 of 12 3rd downs today. I definitely don't miss 3rd and Roof.

Our D last night showed that Roofie was not the only problem.

Did it seem like nearly every pass we threw was deep? I want to see more quick slants, curls, screens quick pop passes. It seems like KF had to wait FOREVER for the routes to come open. I like the shots down the field every now and then, but we need some quick routes to use Reed and Brays speed on slants.

ETA: Something else to consider.. that was BVG's first time trying to stop a spread attack coming from the NFL. I'm sure he'll look better against State.

I can agree with this.
