First off if they can get a 1st rd pick in return I'd trade Julio Jones. It's not that about JJ, it's about the fact he'll be on the decline by the time the next coaching staff is ready ( if it gets there) to compete for a playoff spot.

Looking at needs and elite talent in the 2020 draft 4 players stand out early..

LT Andrew Thomas
DE Chase Young
DT Derrick Brown
RB D'Andre Swift.
The fact 2 are Georgia players is a coincidence, both are ranked as the best at positions of great need. All but perhaps Derrick Brown can shine in any scheme.

If management can trade and end up with 2 of these guys I'll be thrilled. Besides, the organization is going to need to get fans excited after this shiit show to keep The Benz full.

Thoughts ?

Chase Young and Derrick Brown are the only answers.

Why is Swift even on this list? I’d riot if we picked him where we sit, and what we need. This has to be one of those, “FaLcOns NeVeR DrafT GeOrGia pLayerS,” positioning.

Keep Quinn until the end of the year, fire him, and draft Chase Young.

No reason to take swift, especially where the falcons will be drafting. This RB class has some very good players who will be available in the 3rd round

Jonathan Taylor in the back half of Round 2 (thanks, Sanu!) would light me up like a christmas tree.

If the Falcons draft D'Andre Swift or any fricking running back in the first round, then we deserve losing seasons for the the next decade.

They have to go for the best DL player they can get and they may double up on that depending on who is available first couple of picks. Then you are probably looking at someone in the secondary after that?

I'm all for this. That horrible contract will make it difficult to get a 1st for him from anyone who doesn't have a QB on a rookie deal, though. The Bears and Jets may be the only logical trade partners, and the Jets likely don't feel like they're close enough and their 1st will be too high for Julio.

I want Young or Brown, except for one scenario. If the Falcons can find a trade for Jake Matthews, then I'd be all aboard the Andrew Thomas train. But yeah, Young and Brown look like elite DL prospects.

Besides Jarrett, Deion Jones, and Kazee (at FS, not as a slot corner), this defense needs a complete overhaul. I really like Keanu Neal but his injury history can't be ignored for much longer.

This franchise has handed out too many bloated contracts to players represented by CAA. The rumor is that the main reason the Falcons kept Beasley at 12M for this season was to keep a good relationship with CAA while trying to negotiate long term deals with Julio and Grady Jarrett. If that is true at all, Dimitroff should be fired today as it would be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of, but there was no other logic to bring Beasley back at that price.

needs to happen. I have been against every contract we have given him. Giving a WR that much money cripples a team. and clearly we can see on the field that that is the case

If we trade Julio, we better get an Antonio Brown/Herschel Walker king's ransom out of it. Seriously, nothing less.

He the team's best player, leader, future 1st-ballot HOF, and most popular player.

I'm not totally against the idea, but if for some reason we could fleece, say, the Buffalo Bills into thinking he's their missing piece to overthrow the Patriots - and then they hand us 3 first round picks and say, Shaq Lawson... you've got to consider it.

Otherwise, I really think people are overreacting. A coaching change and a strong defensive shake-up is absolutely necessary.

But on offense? We've got 2 rookie first-round picks who have shown a lot of promise. Julio seems like a Fitzgerald type who has 3 years left of "best in show" football, followed by another 2-3 years of very good football. He's also a locker room guy we desperately need. Matt Ryan is still an unbelievably good QB (and fans that think he's the issue, I want to see bludgeoned with a dull object). RB, if anything, is our biggest void. Tevin is gone, and while Freeman is improving, the guy cost us the game again on another fumble. He's too expensive to keep for anything less than elite production. Hooper and Calvin are top-tier players.

The mantra here needs to be: defense, defense, defense.

Firmly believe that a draft that yields Chase Young, and 2 other defenders is our best bet. I also firmly believe that we've got quality talent on our team, and the worse scheme in football. Deion Jones, Grady Jarrett, Rico Allen, Keanu Neal (if he can come back), Takk (if we get a coach), Kendall Sheffield, and John Cominsky are all guys I like and think can contribute.

The NFL is a weird bird. But, the cardinal rule is generally, if you've got a QB, you're never more than a year away from the playoffs.

I know we're pissed. But level heads will prevail on this.

Not being able to attach a quote makes it too hard to continue a conversation. So I won't even try to explain what I'm answering to.
My mention of Swift should be clear if you read my entire OP. I might take him with a 2nd 1st rd pick if we trade Julio and acquire it. JJ will be useless to long term planning since he'll likely be nearing his mid 30s by the time the new staff has us ready to contend again.
A 20 year old RB with exceptional abilities to run inside, outside, catch the ball and block would be very valuable.
Early in the 1st rd I'd go for either a great defensive front 7 guy or a great LT like Thomas.

Also unless we draft 3rd overall or higher Chase Young won't be available.

Also. If you think a 31 year old WR will bring a HW like treasure you're dreaming. A single top 15 pick would be a very good return. Not only could we draft a very good prospect we'd free up enough payroll to add a very good player in free agency.

Also, the defense doesn't need anywhere close to a complete overhaul, it needs several key additions though.

I totally disagree with this. I think he's going to be more like Roddy White where when he starts to decline it will happen really, really quickly. He's had a lot of issues with his lower body (feet and ankles) in his career that Fitz didn't have.

Depends on draft order, but he won't last later than 4. Miami and Cincinnati will take QBs and the Redskins (if they're picking 3rd) would take Andrew Thomas to replace Trent Williams. Chase Young would be the next player drafted no matter who has the pick.

Antonio Brown, who played zero games, yielded such a return.

Pittsburgh got a 3rd and a 5th for Brown.

I stand corrected. Mixed it up with their Khalil Mack trade

yeah I'm thinking that any ideas of Julio being Larry like is dreaming and fanboy'ing over him. He might last 6+ more years, I think 3-4 is way more realistic and it's cutting it super close on keep or trade.

realistically they likely should've traded him before the extension but I think nobody envisioned...what we've seen happen.

Not true

Tua
Burrow/Herbert
Andrew Thomas

We could possibly grab Young at #4. He would be an immediate impact player.
