A group of us are staying at the Renaissance Hotel in midtown Atlanta for the SEC Championship.

What are some good sports bars, fun beer bars and casual restaurants (burgers, bbq, fried chicken, etc.) with good atmosphere to catch the conference games?

Are there any SEC tailgates/events going on in downtown Atlanta that we need to check out before the game?

I'm sure someone can come in and offer some really good recs on hidden gems, but I usually enjoy the "West Midtown" area off Howell Mill Rd.

It's definitely a little crazy and "touristy/normie" in nature, but a lot of options in the way of food, entertainment, and what not.

In one little intersection you have Marcel (steakhouse), Cooks & Soliders (Tapas), Ormsby's (Drinks and bar games), Putt Shack (Top Golf style with a putt-putt course), Jeni's Ice Cream, and countless other spots to explore and check out,.

Mr. C's up Howell Mill off 75 is also a fun spot, IMO. Cigs inside, plenty of TVs, and Golden Tee.

Downvoting arse cowards

Check the College Football Hall of Fame to see if they are doing anything .

Also, in the past, SEC Fanfare at the Georgia World Congress Center (next door to MBS) has had both bands inside for pep rallies and both team walks winding through it. Not sure if that has changed in the last few years or not.

The Lowes hotel in midtown has a killer salad bar for lunch. I knowbwhat you're thinking...salad bar? It's great though for lunch.

Also, the Oceannaire is a pretty decent seafood spot in midtown if that's your thing. It's on the fancier side for sure.

If you want a burger, the Vortex in Midtown is good.

Lastly, Cypress Street Pint and Plate is decent bar food with a wide selection of good beer.

All of these places are walking distance to the Renaissance. Lowes Hotel probably being the furthest.

ETA Cafe Agora is turkish/Mediterranean food that's really good and also walkable. It's casual and reasonably priced. One of my lunch go-tos when I worked in Midtown.

South City kitchen is also really good. Also in midtown but a little further walk than the rest.

That's all I got.

Are you going to the game? You can check out the fan experience at the Congress Center.Free admission and they have food, drinks and pep rallies for each team.SECN will be broadcasting live from there.

Stats is a local bar close by MCB but probably gonna be very crowded.

Yep. About 2 blocks from your hotel.
