Trae young was a point guard we needed. We just have to build around the kid. It would have been nice to have that dude that's tearing it up in dallas tho!!

The sad part is he’s playing so well he’s going to cost us a top three draft pick

Don't look now but Dallas is full on tanking hard to try and end the season in the top 5 of the draft. Remember Atlanta's pick from them is top 5 protected this year.

Dallas is 1-10 in its last 11 games and has now dropped to the 6th worst record in the NBA. Starting to be a real chance they tank enough to protect that draft pick this year. Atlanta would get their pick in 2020 if that happens.

11 games ago they had the 13th worst record and the pick looked completely safe for Atlanta.

I knew it was protected I just hadn't look in a while. I thought it was safe they were outside the top 5. YEEESH

The NBA should punish teams that intentionally tank and it's that obvious. Hawks fight to win every game even though they are trash and they are going to end up with a better record than tanking arse Dallas because Dallas has no interest in winning games at this point.

Dallas Tank Watch update.

Dallas lost again last night. That's 6 in a row and 1-11 in last 12 games now. With Atlanta winning last night, the Hawks are now just 4 games "ahead" of the Mavericks for the 5th lottery spot.

Having the 5th lottery spot doesn't guarantee that Dallas gets a top 5 pick (which again would mean Atlanta does NOT get Dallas' first round pick this year) nor does finishing in the 6th lottery spot guarantee that Dallas wouldn't get lucky in the lottery and end up with a top 5 pick anyway. However, their tanking is definitely making it more and more likely that Atlanta loses a first round pick this year.

Will Dallas win another game? They do still have 1 against the Cavs, Suns, and Pelicans and 2 against the Grizzlies - all teams that suck and/or are fellow tankers.

Hopefully they land the 6th pick and we get it. That would obviously be best case scenario.

They're not good, but they're not trash either. This is the first season in awhile I actually enjoy watching the Hawks. They make the games fun and they look like they are having fun out there. This team is only a couple players away from being a very good team

Dallas Tank Watch update.

Can't believe it but Dallas actually beat the Warriors this weekend.

Currently Dallas remains in the 6th lottery position and the Hawks are 5th. The top 4 lottery positions are locked down by the Knicks, Suns, Cavs, and Bulls.

Mavs have 9 games left, Hawks have 8 games left. Mavs lead in standings by 3.5 games. Looking pretty good that Hawks will be in the 5th lottery position and Mavs will be 6th or 7th (tied with Memphis right now). Let's hope this sticks and the lottery balls fall correctly and Atlanta gets a top 5 and the Mavs get a 6 or 7 that goes to the Hawks.

Knowing the Hawks luck - the Mavs will sneak into the Top 5 and we will drop back and then the Mavs will be a playoff team next year making the pick go from a top 6/7 to 20th or later.

That said, if we get a Top 5 pick and 6/7 that would be awesome. The roster we have right now is competitive and landing 2 of the top 7 players in a pretty solid draft is good for business. I'm hoping for more shooters and a big body.

The best part is, The Hawks also have enough payroll to land 2 max players and with our roster making noise- it could entice the next dream team. We shall see

Good recap.

Long way for things to go still between now and the draft, but have to think that if things go "right" for the Hawks, they likely take a SG/SF as a scorer with the first pick... best available.

Then take a bigger body with the pick they would have received from the Mavs.

Hawks win again (3 in a row). This organization cant even lose when a top pick is on the line. only 2.5 ahead of Dallas

Yep and Dallas lost again. Dallas could easily go 1-7 or 0-8 over their remaining 8 too. I love that Atlanta is competitive but it's time to knock that shite off and lock up the 5th lottery position. If it was any other team but Dallas breathing down their necks for the 5th lottery position it wouldn't be that big a deal.

We already saw the Falcons go on a meaningless 3 game winning streak to end the season starting the week after they were eliminated from the playoffs and dropping like 10 spots in the draft because of it. Let's not have the Hawks repeat this exercise.
