I would drive the golden spike through Josef Martinez’s right leg in front of an army of lesbians in the gulch if it meant getting an NHL team back.

Damnit the Thrashers were so fun to watch, I liked their uniforms and the name even sounded badass (as long as you don't know what a brown thrasher is )

Falcons need a new QB. Matt Ryan is stale. The entire staff should be canned too.

I also think Swanson and/or Inciarte could be moved as part of a deal to improve the rotation. Inciarte is much more likely than Swanson, but I think it's possible.

We better not lose Dansby and Charlie this off-season.

I know you're a Saints troll, but that's like saying Drew Brees was the problem for NO between 2014-2016.

Bingo. I don't think anyone with eyes and a brain would say differently.

One of my best friends is a Saints fan (don't ask me why). And one of the things I like to do is ask him his opinion of the birds. He point blank said, "you guys are the 2014-2016 Saints. Talent rich, coached poor, and deficient in the 'unsexy' areas."

If you want to know the truth, sometimes, ask your rival. TBQH he (and I) are both flumoxed over DQ. I really like him as a head coach, and can see him being successful here, STILL. However, it looks like he will be getting the axe. Hoping he doesn't land in Carolina.

Falcons need to get right with an offensive coordinator. To be honest, the defense has done since the second half of the Seattle game to be getting wins. In the NFL, there is a salary cap - and with that you basically pick which side you want to be explosive, and hope the other side does a bit more than their fair share. We had that in 2016 and 2017.

If DQ is a failure, it will be because we brought in Dirk Koetter, who I hate as a coach with every fiber in my being.

Soccer is an extreme niche/hipster sport in this country (unless it is the USA in the World Cup). If Atlanta stopped winning, their attendance would be about 16 people per game.

To be fair, that's generally every sport in every town. I live in New Orleans and these people think Saints fans are the best.

I remember the 2nd 7-9 season they had a few years back and I had a coworker offer me lower bowl seats to the Saints vs. Falcons game for 25$.
They think they sellout every game but they had a shite on of empty seats during those 7-9 years, especially at the end of the season.

It. Happens. Everywhere.

You're not, but most ATLUTD fans are. I'll never understand why most United fans have to have an "us versus everyone, including our other teams in town," mentality.

I want the team to do well, but if we're being perfectly honest - A Super Bowl, NBA title, or World Series would mean 10x more to the city. I believe there is still some hostility from soccer fans here that it isn't among the "big boys," from a respect perspective. Honestly, the organization has done everything it can. it just particpates in a league which has massive salary restrictions, laughable attendance outside 3-4 teams, and talent that is way below the top 5 leagues in the world.

Maybe we are spoiled as Americans, but when we go to an NBA, NFL, NHL, or MLB game - we get the best. We know when our team wins, we truly are "world champions." When we won MLS cup, it didn't even mean we were uneqiuvocably the best team on our contenent.

Again - we are all pro ATLUTD. But it doesn't get, or deserve the attention and dollars of our other 3 teams because as a business, it isn't even worth a 3rd of any of them. It's why when we're having a conversation about our struggling major sports franchise, we get frustrated when SJW United fans barge through wall like the Kool-Aid guy, bragging about a trophy that isn't as old as any kindergardner, that yielded a season without even a conference title, in a league that isn't even the best on the continent.

I have no doubt that there are some die-hard, love it with all your might, Georgia Southern Football fans out there. But they know where they stand as a program, and what league they play in. They know they're a distant second to Georgia and GT, and TQBH, probably Alabama, Ole Miss, and Auburn in the state as well. You don't see them charging around like they own the place because they won Division II titles out the wazoo. If they did that, they'd be acting like ATLUTD fans.

It probably has to do with 20+ years of growing up in an environment where soccer is constantly shite on. Even after getting a legit team, a lot of the local media personalities still shite on the team and sport. shite, you can even see it in this thread. I haven't even given my opinions on football, basketball, baseball, etc., yet I already see replies about how no one cares about soccer, people only go to games because they are good, etc.

What are we basing "laughable attendance" on?

Well, yeah. The league is only started in 1996.

Campeones Cup is in its first year, but it's pretty much the North American equivalent of the Community Shield or the UEFA Super Cup.

The US Open Cup is one of the oldest soccer competitions in the world and has been around since 1914.

Let's get this back on track...

What would you do going into next season for the (1) Falcons, (2) Braves, and (3) Hawks?

For the Falcons - I do everything I can to sure up the interior offensive and defensive line. If we could just protect and disrupt the QB, this team is 5 games better. Also, an offensive coordinator who knows how to establish the run game. Every Falcons team that has been successful has run the ball well. If this means taking a stab at an RB in late round 2 with that New England pick, so be it.

For the Braves - Great pickup with Hamels. Still, would really like to see a bit more help in the pen. Sign back Donaldson and I think we're ready for another run. I think Fried takes a BIG step this year.

For the Hawks - I want the 8 seed, but the Collins suspension and 2017 Falcons-like rash of injuries has derailed that. Honestly? Rub a rabbit's foot and get Edwards or Wiseman in the draft. That team next year will make the playoffs, have 2 max slot contract spots (even after paying JC), and will be one of the most attractive landing spots in FA. The Hawks are my not-so-sleeper pick to be the potential dynasty of our Atlanta sports lexicon.

Disagree some. In theory, we're getting out 1st rounder back on the Oline who missed all of this season - next season. So it's like getting a 1st rounder BACK.

We have a decent DT rotation, however, our DE's are blah. Takk should be a #2 if not a #3 DE and Vic, well, he means well but should be a backup in the NFL.
We need a TRUE #1 DE.

We then need a true #1 CB if a #1 DE isn't available. Outside of these 2 spots, everything else is fair game. Another CB/S or even ILB to be a heavy hitter.

For the Braves. frick if I know. Everytime we get close they kick us all in the nuts. Having grown up in ATL during the 90s, it just takes magic.

As for the Hawks, I don't know. I don't watch the NBA that much because it generally bores me.

I think Hammels was a bit of an overpay, but considering we saved $11M by declining Julio's option ($12M in 2020 salary minus $1M buyout) it doesn't add too much $ to the books. I think Fried, Folty, and Soroka will continue to improve, and when Newcomb was a starter in 2018 he looked good.

I think the bullpen is shored up at this point, especially if AJ Minter unfricks himself between now and opening day.

If the Braves want to even fathom a deep run into the playoffs, we need a big bat at 3rd. I was pleasantly surprised with Donaldson's glove last season. I wonder if he'd take a "hometown" discount because he is from the area. As much as I like the kid, Riley isn't ready to be an every day 3B right now. Maybe he can make the off season adjustments to his approach at the plate like Swanson did after 2018.

I am really looking forward to Spring Training and seeing if Waters and/or Pache break out. That would make moving Ender easier. I'm interested to see how they use Newcomb. Obviously starting pitching depth is a good thing.

I don't like letting Culberson walk after the way he ended his season. "Hey, thanks for taking a FB in your face. Bye" I just don't like but I understand Anthopoulos is running a business and shitty decisions like that have to be made sometimes.

On a side note, I don't like the ERA+ calculations for the 2019 season. Julio posted a 119 ERA+ which seems a bit high, IMO.

You never know. I don't like looking in another man's pockets, but I do feel like he enjoyed his time here last year and if it was within 1-2 mil, he'd stay. The Rangers aren't going anywhere. I think at this point in his career, a ring and a chance to do it close to home may be worth a 5% retention.

Again, I see BIG things coming in 2020 for all 3 teams. Braves are going to make a run deep into October. Falcons will return to the playoffs, and I think the Hawks are going to get lucky in the lottery, and snag someone like Andre Drummond that will quickly vault us up the ladder in the East. Pretty optimistic, and I don't know why. Just got a good belly feeling on this one.
